The Top 5 Movie Twists Ever
As a film fan, I have sat there, watching a film, waiting for the Twist that will make sense of everything and bam, get hit for 6 by the twist and think 'I didn't see that coming' These are my top 5 favourite film twists.
1. The Usual Suspects - 1995. All of us were left there wondering who is Keyser Soze? Even Kobayashi was Pete Postlethwaite, and that lead to me thinking what is going on? Verbal Kint is telling the events of what was happening. The ending is dazzling. I can honestly say that no-one saw it coming.
2. The Sixth Sense - 1999. Bruce Willis was the counsellor who is helping Haley Joel Osment. Throughout the movie we see Bruce struggle with his life and a past memory. The ending showed that Bruce wasn't who he seemed.
3. The Planet of the Apes - 1968. Charlton Heston played the astronaut who with colleagues crash land on a planet ruled by intelligent apes. After a trial and a daring escape, Charlton runs to the beach to discover where he really is. "Damn You"
4. Saw - 2004. This by far was the most enjoyable twist in a film I have ever seen. All seems straight forward. We think we know all the players in the game and at the end, they were a player short.
5. Fight Club - 1999. First rule of Fight Club is that you don't talk about Fight Club. The film that helped Brad Pitt go from Hearthrob roles, to more serious thought provoking roles. As Brad and Ed Norton form a great friendship, the end shows that Brad and Ed were closer than they thought.
What are your favourites?

I have to admit that was a great twist because I didn't understand where they were all coming from.

AMERICAN BEAUTY, one twist that is fairly obvious, another that i
just didn't seee happening.
THE PRESTIGE, full of twist that took me at least 2 times to work
them all out.

I wouldn't put it in the top 5 but The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen has a fairly good one...even if the reveal is rubbish and long-winded.
V for Vendetta has a brilliant one - probably worth a spot in the top 10.

No Way Out (Kevin Costner) - the twist is a bit obvious but good nevertheless!

Shutter Island?
It wasn't too difficult to decipher what it was going to be, but it was a good film and twist all the same!

The Bad Seed
It's weird at the end when the little girl (who has murdered people who have discovered her evil ways...one by one) gets a spanking from her Mum.
It's not actually part of the movie, more of an addendum which the director decided to include.
Spooooky!

Re: The Top 5 Movie Twists Ever
Yeah , weird , linebreaker
Especially as she had drowned in the final scene shortly before...
I think that bit was added 'cos the idea of a little girl being truly evil and murderous etc was all too much for the times and it was in the way of saying "there there we didn't really mean it..."
Not sure that qualifies as a "twist" though ?

Re: The Top 5 Movie Twists Ever
Yeah alfie, not a twist...but weird. Cutting edge 50s stuff.
OK, how about the Black Widow...when the journo tricks the murderess in the holding cell into sort of confessing the dastardly plan and then the suave French guy she thinks she's topped calmly walks through the door.
That's a clever twist...the look on her face says it all.

"The Others" was pretty good.
"The Planet of the Apes" (I've only seen the original).
"Fight Club" was pretty good although the twist comes quite far from the end.
"The Sixth Sense" - it all made sense in the end, but it was a clever twist.
There was also a twist in "Brazil".
The funniest twist is in "Some Like it Hot"

Re: The Top 5 Movie Twists Ever
Good picks by the OP, but I've not seen Saw. There’s an obscure TV movie from the makers of Columbo called “Murder by Natural Causes” which had a few good twists in it - especially the ending. I quite liked the ending in “Jagged Edge” also.
