That’s such sad news, Chester was as big a star of the 95 RWC as any other. Terribly sad to see such an icon of the modern game pass away so suddenly.

Really sad - I remember seeing him live at Murrayfield and was awestruck. Such an iconic player in the 95 world cup.

Chester Williams at 49 - beyond sad, he was an icon on that world cup.
What a toll some of those involved in that campaign have paid for their efforts
RIP Chester

DH. No need for that. We have lost a player from that year as well. Any player passing on from that year this soon is a tragedy.

Joost, James Small, and now Chester. Makes you wonder if this is all just a coincedance?
There was always rumours about what South African players might of been taking in the years of isolation which ended in 1992. One of my uncles said setroid use was rife in their rugby when he lived out there in the early 90's, and their rugby was all but a professional sport, long before rugby went professional in 1995.
It's a sad loss though, Chester Williams seemed a very good bloke who simply wanted to be a good example of what the black community could achieve in South African rugby, and lets be blunt, he did on his own merits. No quotas, no politics, just a damn fine winger who over came the odds with hard work and a lot of talent.

Yes this is really sad. RIP Chester.
In answer to the post above - it is more than that I’m afraid - it’s Chester Williams, James Small, Joost, Ruben Kruger, one of the coaches Kitch Christie, Jonah Lomu played in that game too. And I read that, bizarrely, the pilot who flew a passenger plane low over the stadium before the final also died of a heart attack a few years back, although he was a bit older (67). I’m not one for conspiracies, but.......

Yeah, those are all just rumours.
The causes of death vary, which can’t be contributed to a specific “substance”
Kitch Christie - Leukemia
Ruben Kruger - Brain cancer
Joost - Motor neuron disease
Chester - Heart attack
James Small - ischaemic heart disease'.
Jonah Lomu - Heart attack, but his kidneys was a life long disease.

RIP - I remember watching the 1995 RWC final like it was yesterday.
It's incredible that 3 out of the 4 starting wingers are no longer with us.

Here's hoping we do not hear any bad news about Goldie in the near future.

Should have known we'd find some way to make it about NZ
