There was a high hit earlier when Canada were attacking on one of theirs. Not even a TMO?

Silly by Canada, that's really swung the game in SA's favour.

Silly by the Canadian 19.
You can't run in with your arm tucked and smash someone in the head. Even if you were only trundling in quite slowly and didn't hit him all that hard.

That was a stupid and dangerous hit.
Are Canada allowed to forfeit at half-time?

SA were slowing the ball down the Ref was there allowing it to happen, that for me is no different than multiple clear outs we have seen in this game already.

Bit of a wakeup call for Canadian Rugby really. They really need to find some funding or work with the USA to remain competitive.

that is awful.
World rugby need to help teams like Canada or rework the RWC so mismatches like this never happen, would be better off with Romania here instead of Canada.

Was Steyn ever back 10 there?
Odd decision to do a quick tap on your own 5. Especially when you then throw an intercept.
Nightmare half from Canada.

To put it into some perspective, when NZ beat Japan in '95 the halftime score was 84-3.

Unsure it'll impact the result, but he was up quick. I suppose he starts back 5, so he's got less far to drop.
Re: Japan 2019 - Pool B Canada Italy Namibia New Zealand South Africa
How many offside missed by the refs?
Brits might as well be wearing red and stood in their attacking line.

Here we go. The ref is now psychologically captured now trying to help Canada stay in the game.... by penalising SA for things he might have overlooked in the first half.
Consistency please.

Schalk Brits bowing when he receives the ball from the stadium staff for a lineout is a nice touch.

There was a recent convo about some hookers being too small for pro rugby, I think Schalk Brits disproves that. Incredible player.
Today's ref and TMO were solid. If that TMO was overseeing Aus vs Wales then you can bet the Wallabies would have had 14 points chalked off. I hope these guys get to officiate some bigger games in place of French refs.

I think that may have been his last game (having retired once before), unless perhaps SA are in the 3rd/4th playoff.

Just watched today’s game. Fair play Jeff Hassler this is the longest run of games I have seen him play. He was injured every other game when he played for Ospreys

The World Cup Finals should be four pools of four teams playing with the same amount of time between games, but that would obviously be too fair for World Rugby's taste.

Him and Pienaar have a few more playing years I reckon. Brits less so, but to still be playing at this level at age 38, that's one tough SOB.

Could have sworn it was 24-3 at half time and Japan stormed back to win ia classic...or did I dream that

I was at the game you mentioned but couldn't really concentrate as I had Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer sitting either side bickering over who got to hit the sack with me first. It was very wet if I remember correctly.

Just watched the highlights of the game. The Canada red card was very much the type of challenge that Bakkies Botha was famed for. Funny how times change.

BS
#Justice for Bakkies
Nice to see the lamentable Canadians have an impact on a game for once though....they really do waste a RWC spot for a team that actually has a clue

It’s because they’ve been subjected to Kingsley Jones’ coaching.

From the bbc
“Italy head coach Conor O'Shea says his side's Rugby World Cup exit is "devastating" despite needing a "miracle match" to beat New Zealand.
The Azzurri had to beat the All Blacks in their final Pool B match to reach the quarter-finals, but the game was cancelled because of Typhoon Hagibis.
"We still had a chance and god knows what happens in sport," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"It was emotional when we heard the news after training this morning."
I’m my opinion Italy just got a draw against the all blacks that is surely their greatest result in international rugby.
Only the result is remembered never the game..

More of a no result in reality (with a 2 point windfall) than a draw though, isn't it?

I assume because they trained for no reason and could have used the time for something a bit more fun.

Easy when there’s no game to remember.
Why the complaining then? They got their best ever result without even playing. Parisse should be celebrating. Oh, doesn’t work like that huh?

Parisse is of course completely right, had the All blacks needed this game to qualify World Rugby would have moved heaven and earth to accommodate them, little Italy....not so much as an attempt to do so and in doing so they have effectively destroyed the spirit of the RWC.
Im surprised the Mighty ABs haven't suggested doing a rain dance to shoo that Typhoon away

Nah, he’s emotional, and there’s no grounds to suggest that other than typical AB envy...we get that a lot, and if they could move heaven and earth then all the need to do is shift the typhoon out to sea more.

I can just imagine the national tantrum of 'emotion' that would be flooding our way if this was the ABs being kicked out...
1. refereeing conspiracy
2. Food poisoning
3. This typhoon has no rispikt for the haka
4. The winner should share it with us
5. any of the above

And I’m not disagreeing with that. Everyone does. But that’s different from extending that to ‘NZ would be favoured when making typhoon decisions’ now that is a mockery. Some here agree with that. I don’t. So you get a balance.
Something badly needed on this site. I get Parisse is upset but pointing the finger at NZ is a new low. It ain’t t our fault there’s a flipping typhoon. It ain’t our fault Italy lost 47-3 to the side we beat. But hey, let’s just let that go huh?

Well the reverse of that is Hansen coming out applauding world rugby on a great decision. Pretty disrespectful to Italy. Was quite surprised by his comments.
