Japan V Scotland (if it's on)
First topic message reminder :
MATCH 40
SUNDAY 13 OCTOBER
KICK OFF (UK TIME)
11:45
SCOTLAND
WORLD RANKING 9TH
Referee: Ben O'Keeffe
International Stadium Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City
(Or not at all)
Is this Schrodinger's game in that it can be considered both on and cancelled at the same time? I'm sure Jimbo will correct me in my interpretation....

We need Horne on for Laidlaw, and I'd be tempted by Hogg replacing Harris at centre with Kinghorn at 15. This is no longer the game for plodders.

Japan are awesome and deserve to be in the quarters, it’s going to take something unbelievable from us in the second half to change my mind on that!

Although not quite as bad as when Scotland played Ireland, but at the moment Scotland are very, very, second best.
If they (Scotland) do not score first in the second half, they will be out of this years Rugby World Cup.

So what is happening in the scrum? I don't get why Scotland keep getting penalised there and neither do Scotland by the looks of it.
Kick chase has been awful from Scotland and Russell look so rusty, he really seems to play better with more game time under his belt. He hasn't played for 2 weeks now and his kicking isn't doing Scotland nay favours it's just gifting Japan possession to attack.

So Scotland needed to be on top of possession stats to stand a chance..
Wouldn't be surprised if it was 70% Japan possession!
Why do we keep kicking the ball to them?

Japan 28 tackles Scotland 112.
That backs up my comment about possession!

Re: Japan V Scotland (if it's on)
This is almost as if Jamie Joseph wrote the Scotland game plan. Every time we get it back we kick it to them in strong attacking positions. They defend attack for fifteen phases, we repeat. I’m not sure about the refereeing at Scrum time but we need to sort out end of it.
When we get the ball we need to hold it, no more kicks. When we do kick it has to be long and for touch.

If Japan win this, only Japan and Wales would have won all their games.
Two of them could meet in the final.....and as a Welshman that worries me

Scotland will need another second half performance like they had at twickenham to stay in the tournament. Huge task.

They have always been quick. Reminds me a little of NZ which doesn't surprise given their coaching and senior player set up.
They sure picked the right rugby model to emulate and it's now paying off.

Absolute shambles - we're playing the complete opposite of the game we should be.
Wtf is Townsend on?

About £250k a season I’d say. Worth the money?

Their passing is amazing! So slick and quick and accurate. They really fizz it about.

Of the two teams Wales v Japan. you would have to fancy Japan.No9 wrote:If Japan win this, only Japan and Wales would have won all their games.

The speed they are playing at, the error free penalties.
I personally do not think Wales would be able to cope with.

Metres run 339 to 54. I think the Scots supporters should probably have switched off about the 10 minute mark.
The best thing about Japan is that they are such fun to watch. They have found their own way of playing and its very special.

Absolutely not. We're the most intellectually inferior tier 1 nation going - we just don't play smart rugby at all.

I think Wales would beat Japan with some to spare. Gatland doesn’t have Townsend’s propensity to play into the opposition’s hands. Townsend’s plan amounts to playing the same way as Ireland with players who aren’t as good.

When was the last time a defence coached by Gatland and Edwards missed 21 tackles in 40 minutes? Wales never fold like this. Better coaches. Miles better.

Well the team who deserves it will get through. We've got to improve against tier one nations (which Japan definitely are now), we have an opportunity to make things right next 6Ns but we have to move on from toonie. Fresh coaching team required with a hard barsteward in charge.

It would be the semi final, if Japan win and we both win our QFs.
I couldn't call it. Would love to see Josh Adams and their right winger in a direct shoot out for leading try scorer though.
