QF1 - Match Thread - England v Australia - 19/10/19 - K/O 08:15 BST
First topic message reminder :
Thought I'd get these made nice and early for a few reasons - but one being that we're already now looking ahead to the QFs with several teams having finished their group stage, so it's all heating up for the proper knockout stuff...barring any more disruption.

Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, Marler, Cole, Kruis, Ludlam, Heinz, Ford, Joseph.
Australia
Team: Beale; Hodge, Petaia, Kerevi, Koroibete; Lealiifano, Genia; Alaalatoa, Latu, Sio; Arnold, Rodda; Naisarani, Hooper (c), Pocock.
Replacements: Uelese, Slipper, Tupou, Coleman, Salakaia-Loto, White, To'omua, O'Connor.
Venue: Oita
Referee: Jerome Garces
AR1: Romain Poite
AR2: Mathieu Raynal

Didn't expect Sinkler as the try scorer

He should get sent off for making noises like that. It’s clearly trying to be some weird distraction technique. It sounds like a cat in severe pain

I think if England are genuine contenders they need to tighten the screw now and finish this convincingly

Australia are the ones turning the screw worryingly and Making sure England feel the pressure on every aspect of the game.
As much as it pains me to say it I can only see one winner ATM and amazingly it's not England....

Agreed Heaf....I'm not sure whAt scrummaging the ref is watching but I don't see englands players doing too much wrong.

Decisions and runs of them can go against you. Accept. Stay calm. Defend well. I agree with the thoughts above. Aus want to turn this into an end to end game. Lineout maul. Keep it tight for ten min.

Aus had a kickable penalty 10 minutes ago ... to come away with nothing has to hurt

Huge defensive win for England. Could be a crusher for the Aussies.

Huge huge stuff from England! Now whatever we do don't go kicking ball back into Australian hands for the next 5 minutes at least!!

Any Oz scrum offence - reset. Any hint of an England one - pen.

No
Running from side to side no matter how pretty doesn't win matches.

Wow, 64 minutes before the first TMO intervention. Must be some sort of record.
14 point lead with just under 15 minutes left. Would take an incredible implosion to lose from here.

Certainly a YC as he went in the side then moved round the back to pull the maul down.

There was a point at 45 I thought game on. Bit of a slap on the back to this team. Nicely managed game.

Three points makes it completely safe. Game over.
England did very well in patches, but patches won’t be enough to defeat New Zealand (if indeed it is New Zealand). Do expect a better performance next week, whoever the opposition is.
Curry easily the best player on the field today.
