How much...
How much of an impact did the cancelled games have on the knockout stages?
First topic message reminder :
Pretty simple stuff.
Some dominant performances from England and New Zealand preceded a surprise showing from a spirited France where their physical edge over Wales nearly got them a win. All 3 teams built big leads in the opening quarter, often through extra sharpness and physicality. All 3 teams didn't play their final group game.
With SA and Japan having a much less first-half-centric match, with SA eventually pulling away through their extra bulk and stamina, it at least begs the question.
(don't take this TOO seriously...)

Nope, I've made my point. People try and derail and disparage and get nationalistic. So be it. May as well have fun - the meme is great bants.

In which case let's play the World Rugby World Rankings Cup instead and do away with the sense of competition...

That's not the point I was making, and I think you know it. The rankings aren't a perfect predictor (if they were, we wouldn't have had four - potentially five - different #1 teams over the course of the tournament), but they're a good indicator of teams' performance. If the week off had made a difference, we might have expected an upset from France. We nearly got one... mais la France, c'est toujours la France, avec une semaine en vacances ou non.
You've said your piece, miaow, and most people disagree with you. Isn't it time to put it to bed?

Happy to put it to bed, but your conclusions are basically 'the teams that won would have won anyway it's just the scorelines that were different'. I think that's trite to be honest.

It was massive - worth at least 33 points.
