I would have serious reservations, if they are "investing" what do they want in return? Equity deals are just that, purely about making money.

To me its like them loans you see on TV. Get the loan today and start paying back tomorrow at sky high interest rates.
There is always a price to pay for easy money and you the customer don't benefit
