Eggington v Theophane predictions
Channel 5 has a sneaky wee fight on 10pm Friday night, as Sam Eggington who is rarely in a boring fight takes on 40 year old underachiever Ashley Theophane in a 12 rounder!
Who you think takes this one, and why?

Evening Shenglong.
Got a feeling this will be Eggington's fight. There's a 13-year difference in age and whilst neither is top-drawer operator, in the cold light of day it'll be youth over ancient exuberance! Eggington by UD, about 117-112.
Which will mean Theophane by heavy KO in 2...

Re: Eggington v Theophane predictions
Theophane has been managed terribly his whole career, a tough sod with sound fundamentals who has had about 50 pointless fights. Deserved the decision over Danny Garcia a couple of years before he got 'lucky' against Khan but did from there. Was doing ok against Broner before the fight was prematurely stopped, should have been a points deduction for a clear low blow.

Re: Eggington v Theophane predictions
No way did Garcia get lucky against Khan, he was looking for that shot from the first round and timed it perfectly. Think Khan should have pushed for a rematch though as he was very beatable.
Eggingtons such a nice guy so I hope he wins it but either way think it'll go to points. Theophane seems to be one of those fighters that drifts in and out and completely agree with Souly that he's been mismanaged. Maybe if we had less exhibitions he'd have had his shot ;-) (yes i'm kidding)

Garcia got lucky in the sense that the set up for that shot came from Khan so comprehensively outboxing him that he became complacent, his inability to do anything in that fight was his saving grace.

Gotta disagree there, he was setting him up and waiting for that opportunity. A bit like a smaller Canelo really, he knew he had the power to take him out and was waiting for it knowing it would come.

So he was letting Khan punch him round the ring on purpose?

Re: Eggington v Theophane predictions
He wasn't being punched around the ring, he was being tippy tapped and knew he couldn't cope with his speed. Waited for the moment and Khan was spark out (unfortunately as it could have led to him fulfilling his potential). Even his Dad/Trainer said at the press conference what was gonna happen.
What do you do when you know you have no chance of outboxing your opponent at all. You find the weakness and exploit it. Basic coaching bud.

There's the highlights Souly, gotta admit Khan was hitting harder than I remember but you can see Garcia looking for that punch, as soon as he lands it it's all he's going for after and Khan loses his way. Think he definitely had the beating of Garcia in a rematch though

Garcia stopped Khan in the fourth round. Khan had previously been exposed as having a glass chin which ultimately limited him as a boxer. Garcia was shown to have a solid chin - he has never been stopped. History tells us that Garcia was the better fighter by some distance.

Fighters try to set other fighters up all the time ...Sure they tried with Ray Robinson and Leonard..
Fact is Khan was boxing Garcia's head off like he was Maidana and Garcia managed to catch him more decisively.
More respect for Khan needed.
As for Eggleston...Like him because he is a crowdpleaser but worry because he takes an awful lot of punishment which could damage him later.
His next loss should be his last....However I think he beats Theopane by late stoppage..

Bertie, I class Khan as having an unfulfilled career, he spent far too much time chasing Floyd instead of cementing his name. Think he would have had Garcia in a rematch as he was a better boxer by far, just needed to reign in the red mist a bit.

Re: Eggington v Theophane predictions
It's hard to sympathise with him. He took advantage of an over the hill Barrera, a fight with zero integrity. As mentioned above, he wasn't bothered about re-matching any of the losses. He took two catch weight fights and should have known better than to accept the latter, Alvarez fight... But he said that the extra weight of Alvarez wasn't a concern, until he got beaten and then said he was shocked at how big the other guy was...
A stupidly planned career, with one eye permanently on a big pay day that he didn't get against the big two, which, in fairness, he didn't really deserve.
