2021 - 5 who will, 5 who won't
Welcome to 2021 - here's hoping it will be a much better year for all, and Boxing will be back - with crowds! Time to do the usual who will/who won't predictions.
5 who will:
1. Ryan Garcia. Genuinely believe that this kid has it all. Yes there's a lot of hype but he's proved it with every obstacle thrown at him. I think he will walk through Luke Campbell.
2. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Continues to beat all in front of him. Picks up the IBF belt by practically decapitating Caleb Plant.
3. Tim Tszyu. Gets his WBO shot late in the year and obliterates Teixeira. Definitely a chip off the old block. Wants to set up a unification bout with Jermell Charlo.
4. Josh Taylor. Gets his meaningful 4 belt fight against Ramirez and continues to impress, beating him in a lopsided UD. Hopes for a huge fight against Teofimo Lopez in 2022.
5. Artur Beterbiev continues to chase belts in the Light Heavyweight division and goes after Bivol. Doesn't get him, but knocks out mandatory Fanlong Meng and Deines in brutal fashion. Edit: once he's recovered from Covid!!
5 who wont
1. Andy Ruiz Jr. Has had his moment of glory. Has a couple of fights at close to 280lbs against no-hope opposition. Nobody cares. His trainer leaves him because Fat Andy won't train.
2. Billy Joe Saunders. Makes another stupid video in the build up to a potential Canelo fight - he then doesn't get the fight.
3. Gennadiy Golovkin. Continues to rack up meaningless IBF contender defences. Charlo and Canelo are not interested.
4. Carl Frampton. Quickly realises that he's out of his depth against Jamel Herring and his corner retire him after 8 rounds. Announces his retirement shortly afterwards.
5. Gervonta Davis. On the cusp of landing a superfight against Lopez, gets arrested for starting a brawl outside a bar. Legal issues keep him out of the ring for several months.

Impressive from Ryan Garcia. A big step up in class for him. Came through a second round knock down. Stopped Luke Campbell in the seventh - someone who had never been stopped before in his professional career which included a split decision loss against Jorge Linares and a UD loss against Lomachenko.Mr Bounce wrote:

ps: I hope Andy Ruiz Jr will train and gets back into it. With Deontay Wilder losing there are some big fights for him if he only he is prepared to train for it. For that matter I hope Deontay sorts his head out and gets back into the ring. Would like to see how he fares against AJ or maybe a Dylan Whyte - although I think he would win against Whyte.

Re: 2021 - 5 who will, 5 who won't
Garcia very confident about Tank Davis fight, maybe that reach be a problem for Davis?
The one I want to see is Davis vs Lopez
Same size, height, reach etc.
Let Garcia build a bit more first
The trouble is Floyd and his safety first obsession- will he let Tank fight anyone? We want see Tank fight quality his own size now

Lot of talent between 135 and forty
Look at the quality, in no particular order:
Lopez
Garcia
Haney
Davis(assuming he moves up)
Prograis
Taylor
Mikey(coming down)
And maybe some I’ve missed
Any combination between these lot blockbusters

And I’ll just further add, if Tank does decide to stay at 130 then the Lomachenko becomes a very big fight if the latter moves down

Benavidez is one of those fighters that makes you slap your own forehead because he isn't disciplined enough. Fighters not making weight is a real slap in the face to all those who do it right. If he can get his head together he's a half decent fighter, but it's SO frustrating.
Not sure that a Charlo fight would be a good idea. Jermall has looked good recently. I'd like to see him against Golovkin or Canelo.

Mikey Garcia open to fighting anyone at 47/40 a fight with Pacquiao would be an awesome fight, a fight with Lopez at 40 would be some fight too; picking Ramirez and Fury for the win spars with Ramirez so guess he would say that:

Re: 2021 - 5 who will, 5 who won't
I’ve never seen Ramirez but my calculations Taylor’s got the win over the best in the division so these two look very evenly matched. I think it’s a terrific fight
Did Ramirez opt out of the super six to avoid Prograis?
The feeling seems to be Taylor can win if he sticks to his boxing, but it could be a war and that would suit both of them
Anyone know more about Ramirez? I missed the Postol fight but saw someone say that fight showed his limitations

Re: 2021 - 5 who will, 5 who won't
From what I understand Ramirez did skip the WBSS - I am unsure of the reasons but reckon that someone suggested he best avoid Prograis and/or Taylor. It was a classy championship withe Taylor, Prograis, Baranchyk, Relikh, Martin, Flanagan, Yigit and Troyanovsky. Only 2 losses between them at the start of the tournament. Reckon there must have been something there that spooked either him or his team.
Postol has fought both Taylor and Ramirez, Taylor dominating, and Ramirez only squeaking past in a Majority Decision. I think this is Taylor's fight if, as you say, he his sticks to his boxing. It's a fascinating fight.

It’s not just the big money for the winner it’s also that little bit of history with the four belts. Ramirez got a chin he’s not to be underestimated

Re: 2021 - 5 who will, 5 who won't
Good to see the yearly 5 articles continuing...
1. Ryan Garcia gets stopped when he fights for a title.Too open and chinny...The Campbell fight proves little and Campbell should quit.
2. Saunders has a good chance of becoming a top P4Per if he can keep his early lead over Canelo...Not sure he has the best tank though and he likes to coast the last 4....8-4 will be a 7-5 for Canelo .
But regardless don't see him lasting Canelo by late stoppage.
3. Lomo wins his title back late in the year from Lopez who is a hard fighter to rate though gifted.
4. Fury beats Joshua by late stoppage..
5. British Women's Boxing becomes an entity in itself...For better or worse..
1. Joyce stops Usyk for the WBO
2. Spence doesn't fight Crawford but stays undefeated and just as uninteresting.
3. Brook fights Conor Benn..
4. Whyte continues aimlessly in other non title fights that disgrace the PPV franchise.
5. The female Vinny Pazienza, Shannon Courtenay, shows good looks, an jnteresting back story and an exciting style mean more wallet wise than all of Katie Taylor's skills...Courtenay needs to get that chip off her shoulder and realise the World is at her feet...

Re: 2021 - 5 who will, 5 who won't
More underwhelming news re: Crawford. Seven months since he last fought and still doesn't have a fight in place.
But fret not! Arum told Boxing Scene he's working on it! Working on bringing up smaller guys from 140 for him to fight, that is. Oh. He mentioned Prograis (which would be good, in fairness), Ramirez (not so much - he's coming off a loss) or Zepeda, which would frankly be just another safe bet, uncompetitive, meaningless defence for Crawford at 147.
What's the betting that it ends up being Zepeda? I've lost patience with Crawford now. What a waste of a talent and career.

Just seems the logical fight Andrade
Can’t see any other fight for Charlo Demetrius except Munguia
But it’s the PBC and the WBC and they know they haven’t got a star so it’ll be lots of youtube videos and B grade opposition and calling out Canelo because they know he’s at 168
Anyone dangerous won’t get a fight you watch, Andrade and Munguia won’t get a look in

Sounding very positive on the Mikey Garcia fight(helluva fight you could definitely argue those two the best two in the world at 140, certainly two and three) and he got that right Broner and Tank Davis won’t be fighting him anytime soon, shame Tank is with Mayweather coz Floyd doesn’t do 50/50’s and that’s a shame for fight fans:

Floyd all about weight hopping with Tank looking for the weakest links, slink back out when there’s a champion(Rougarou) that they think might be too good
Are we supposed to be impressed?
Shame because Tank is good, pity Floyd won’t test him against the best. Terrified of that ‘O.’ Won’t mean a thing if he fights them when they’re past they’re best
But that’s the Mayweather way

Didn’t see it but virtually everyone saying Charlo lost. PBC and Al Haymon are a scam
In a fight most are saying Castano clearly won, one judge scored it 117-111, no wonder so many are switching to UFC
His little place in history(first Argentinian to be undisputed in four belt era) snatched away from him. Just a business USA boxing
Broner won only about four rounds his last fight too

I didn't watch it either. The Charlo twins are incredibly frustrating. At their best they're really, really good but so often they cruise, thinking they have to simply turn up.
Hope Castano gets his rematch. Maybe he has Jermell's number?

This Charlo can’t fight on the inside, he’s supposed to be the better of the two isn’t he or, is it the other way round? Never seen either of them tbh(won’t watch the other one till he fights Andrade, hope Canelo won’t touch him till he does so) but not sure either of them are all that are they? But if you sell tickets and you got Al Haymon on board the world’s your oyster. There was a good recap on the fight on this one(special guest Steve Kim):

Ducked Jacobs and surprise surprise now Andrade. Holding up the division and there’s nothing boxing can do about it. His calling out of Golovkin some time back was a joke too, Golovkin’s team never received an offer. Hope his fans see it and no show till he gives them the fight that all boxing fans want to see, if the sport was run correctly the only fight that would happen next Andrade
