Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
First topic message reminder :
Ben Leicester have been fortunate to find wealthy owners who saved us from a deal of trouble but they could not be accused of throwing stupid money around and disregarding the fans. The PL winning team was assembled from a bunch of frees ,has beens and cheap buys I think Ulloa was the top buy at about £9m.What they then did as some players moved on for big money was start throwing some of that money about to try to maintain position with varying degrees of success. The Chairman gives away free beer and cakes on his birthday and has given a lot to local organisations including a childrens hospital ,We have been very very lucky.
I think the German teams have a different voting structure where fans have a big say.

Totally agree Mac. Heard one TV golf interviewer ask the player "Tell us about your round today" I would have replied "Didn't you see it on the TV?" I think the golfer just ran through his round saying things like "Driver, six iron, two putts" etc. I know it's hard to come up with original questions etc, but that's THEIR job, just as it's the sports persons job to reply in an interesting way as possible. Good questions = good answers.McLaren wrote:Not just ask banal questions in a press conference

English players seem to find it hard to stick it out for the long haul abroad. Pretty sad. Why leave the Spanish champions?

Gavin Williamson has had a stinker of a lockdown. And the education recovery minister has resigned due to lack of funding to help kids get back on track with education. Yet he is tweeting about a college taking down a picture of the Queen. It's downright weird of him.

My Tory voting partner who's a Head at a local primary school thought she would never again see an education secretary more inept than than Michael Gove, yet just a few short years down the line "Frank Spencer" comes up trumps. The thing is though Ben, she (and millions of others) will go right out and vote for more of the same in spite of the carnage he's wreaking, now THAT is what I call weird

Williamson decaring his love of freedom of speech and expression, and now is having issues with people using those freedoms because it doesn't fit what he wants it to fit.
Not sure if he understands it himself.

Yep. And people lap it up.
It's interesting watching them trying to distract and deflect the NI issues. All of their own making. Yet, people will blame others.

If the next GE was held tomorrow then around 400, but Starmer's got a couple of years to do something about it.

At the end of the day...it works, lying actually works in politics. We can get as high and mighty as we want about how untrustworthy politicians are but the fact of the matter is, there's a vast majority out there vote for pathological liars and will continue to do so. Even when it's obvious a politician has lied through their teeth your average Joe will shrug their shoulders and accept it or worse, justify themselves by creating an alternative reality. For those that would prefer an alternative to entitled old Etonians running the country, the best thing we can do is to steer clear of politics and find ourselves something else to fully occupy ourselves for the next 20 years because this is going to be the normal for the whole of the next generation. Or we could spend the time thinking up an answer to the inevitable questions from the grandchildren once they become worldly aware. "But Grandad, why did your generation let that bunch of cretins take society back to 19th century serfdom?"

So what’s going to happen by 21st. Infections are clearly on a significant rise again however looks like hospital admission aren’t corresponding like they did in Sept when infections were last on a similar level and trajectory. What would you do if you were Bojo and why?

I would personally carry on as planned as long as hospital admissions don't rise in the next week, the vaccination program has ensured that the link between cases and serious illness has been broken. I fully expect however the full reopening to be delayed by at least three weeks.

I suppose hospital admissions IS going to be the key stat over the next week or 2. We were down to around 2000 new infections per day now we're back over 7000 although nowhere near the carnage of January. Criticals have ticked up from 120 to 150 in the past week but again nowhere near the 4000+ in Jan. I'm also hearing that general hospital admissions (not ICU) are about half what they were in Sept. So all in all the sensible approach would be to hold off for a couple of weeks to make sure that link between infections and ICU is most definitely broken.
One thing they can do now is just bin the international traffic light system because even though I think we'll be ok in terms of low 4th wave deaths, we'll continue to have highish infection numbers which will put us on everybody else's red list. So the bonus for Johnson is that chav holidays will be restricted and nasty foreign governments will be to blame.

The traffic light system isn't overly confusing but that element of doubt is pounced on by the imbeciles including the scummy influencers who consider their holiday to Dubai to be essential. I don't think any reasonable person should be considering an overseas holiday at this point in time.

Jas you sound like a politician sometimes 'fact of the matter is' when it often isnt.I dont see any reason not to travel to places like majorca or portugal if they will take me with low rates of covid when I have 2 jabs and will as always be very careful what can go wrong if you take it carefully .Its no worse than going to London or York.No greater risk.Re the 21st if we dont get the final step nothing will change much other than nightclubs and events will still be limited numbers and maybe home working stays for a while.

First time I believe they've won their first game in the Euros or at least the first in my lifetime. Was an ok performance, wanted to see them make a statement of intent but they did not.

Think they did what they needed to, it was bloody hot, so no point killing yourself. I think semi would be a good competition. Quarter is my expectation. Anything less would be disapointing.

Yeah think quarters from England. Didn’t see the Scotland game, but disappointing result from them.
Friday will be an interesting game. Fully expect England to win.
Would love to see Grealish start. Himself and Mings v McGinn.
Hopefully Scotland will put up a fight and make it a good game.
Am sure they will be fired up, especially after today’s game.

Will be tough for England to make it through their last 16 opponents, likely to be one of Portugal/France, maybe Germany (presuming England win their group). For that reason I don't think it'd be disappointing if England went out at that stage.
If England do get past the last 16, they should make the final.

Another 4 weeks it is then. This is purely on the governments lack of actions with India and border control it seems. All the good work initially on vaccines will come to nothing. Not heard anything on further support for businesses yet though.

Big result I Amersham, probably bigger then Hartlepool. A lot will be based on HS2. Which in this area, (Amersham isn't far from me) is a big thing. A lot of anger still against it. Its ripping up the areas.

The result in Hartlepool suggested a wider distrust of Labour whereas Amersham is a result borne of locality. The Tories won't be too disconcerted by losing a seat to the Lib Dems, were there a suggestion in an upturn in the Labour vote then potentially but there wasn't.

But didn't some if the local electiom results show a wider trend towards the libs or labour in places like the cotswolds, Oxford, and Amersham, where I think the council went lib dem. This was flagged up at the time by some, but was lost in the Hartlepool narrative.

The overall nationwide trend has definitely been towards the Tories and the recent polling won't have them worried at the moment. It will only be a concern when Labour rather than the Lib Dems start eating into the blue wall.

Yes, it's a classic by-election result. At the next GE this seat will most probably go back to the Tories.

It's very much the opening salvo of Vote Stay for.
1. Indyref2 in Jock land
2. Irish re-unification vote
3. message to the Welsh to not even think about an indyref
The thing is if the fringes of the Kingdom are so fractious why not either a) let them go or b) address the real issues instead of inventing an inane blah blah blah stick your head in the sand song. Aye, English right wing populism at its best!!

The Dalian Atkinson thing is horrific. In recent months we have police officer convicted of killing someone and charged with murdering someone. Not a good look, especially after the Daniel Morgan report on institutional corruption, and the nazi.
