Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
First topic message reminder :
Ben Leicester have been fortunate to find wealthy owners who saved us from a deal of trouble but they could not be accused of throwing stupid money around and disregarding the fans. The PL winning team was assembled from a bunch of frees ,has beens and cheap buys I think Ulloa was the top buy at about £9m.What they then did as some players moved on for big money was start throwing some of that money about to try to maintain position with varying degrees of success. The Chairman gives away free beer and cakes on his birthday and has given a lot to local organisations including a childrens hospital ,We have been very very lucky.
I think the German teams have a different voting structure where fans have a big say.

Had to really, not for the affair, not because it was an aide, not because it was in the office but for breaching covid guidelines.
Government doing their best to ensure no one feels obligated to conform to any more regulations, and statistically speaking you have to wonder why they would continue anyway.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I dont care if a politician has a fling. Really not bothered.
I'm I bit more concerned about the give a job to a mate thing, which is pretty clear to be the case.
Also, not sure about affair an affair with an employee, that's generally not allowed in most places.
The hypocrisy of Hancock laying into Ferguson for his second time last year, then defending his own sexy time is pretty shoddy.
Breaking the rules he tells people to abide is not a good thing at all.
He should have been sacked, but Johnson has no backbone.
Soneone has been out to get him, first with Cummings and his attacks and leaked text messages. The email situation which has come put, and now the video from his own office. Hancock was always going to be the sacrificial lamb.

I would hope that any of us in that same situation wouldn't wait to be sacked but would resign on the spot.
The ineptitude of Sage and government ministers and others have diminished the willingness of people to adhere to the rules.
Although they clearly have gone on too long and are farcical in their nature most of the time (such as only the bride and groom being able to dance) ministers should lead by example.

I have a .gov.uk email address. Yet the health secretary had only his private email address for work correspondence. That sounds bizarre at best, and the start if whitewashing at worst.

I really do think that to be a politician requires you to demonstrate you are naive and stupid.
We have 650 MP's and I can barely think of any who are decent.

Ah Super's back, welcome back Supes. Where the devil have you been?
Meanwhile Hancock, he's been the fall guy in waiting since April 2020. I just find it a bit odd that
a) it took being caught having an affair to derail him.
b) he never resigned as the story broke

Indeed Ben, the way it was done is full of intrigue though...as in who planted the secret camera and why? Well I suppose the why is obvious - the who, or on who's behalf is much more intriguing.
The other point is, I specifically added "being caught" to having the affair. Such is the hypocrisy of Tory rank and file, it's not the affair they're aghast at, it's the fact that he was stupid enough to get caught and bring (apparently) shame on them. Of all the things he could have been hung out to dry for in the past year and wasn't, they've pushed him onto his own sword for that.

Ok so it then becomes a question of who leaked?...and why some ministers are feigning ignorance about cameras in their Ministerial offices or about the potential for footage being leaked to "nasty" States that could potentially blackmail.

Well quite.
Not trying to defend Hancock at all, but if you think about your own workplace, could you remember where the cameras are? I wouldn't have a clue and wouldn't give them a second thought.
They don't exist in order to catch workers outx they're security measures and I can totally understand why anyone wouldn't consider being caught on film an issue because unless a genuine incident happens, the data is going to be overwritten

That wasn't my suggestion btw, that was the ridiculous, deflecting, distractionary nonsense coming out of some Tories this morning. But it's reassuring to know they're in complete charge of what's going on. It could be worse, if things had turned out differently it could have been footage of PM Corbyn shagging Health Secretary Abbot....the nation would never have forgiven the Sun for that one :-p

Anyone got an electric car?
I test drove a Polestar 2 the other day and I'm seriously considering one just wondered if it's practical enough to own one and what people's experience of them is such as real range when you drive motorways more, cold weather effect etc.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Super
I am thinking of getting one, but worry about charging it outside my house. Even if I put a charger in my Garden the street I live on is permit parking and therefore I am not guaranteed a space outside my house near the charger. Have you spoken to Edinburgh council about this?
For my usage a long range is not really necessary. The few long trips a year I do would just have to be planned via charging stations.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
That's the thing Mac, range isn't really an issue for me, 99% of my journeys are just to St Andrews and back. I just don't want a car which claims a range of say 250 miles, but which drops to 180 ish should you drive motorway or if winter temps reduce range to that.
I currently don't have designated parking although should have by winter.
I'm not wanting to fund that Bell end Musks pocket so won't be using Tesla or their over rated supercharger network so really depends on whether the existing commercial network would be OK.

No, I'm likely to move Mac. I don't think you can request a designated space. There's a number of those dreary, poorly built American EV's in the street and none have a designated space.

On my street if you get back later then you are unlikely to get a space outside our house. Means you could end up not being able to charge and therefore not be able to use the car the next day. If the council wants people to make green choices they have to help us out.

EV's aren't especially green Mac, it's mostly for show.
At best they reduce air pollution in built up areas, but make no mistake in terms of CO2, they barely make a dent.
I've had to park half a mile away on occasion which is irritating given that I pay £250 a year to park.

Anyone remember when the govt had their little protect the statues moments. And talked about 10 years imprisonment. I guess it made remember nutters happy.
The guy who killed Dalian Atkinson and booted him in the head, gets 8 years.
How does that all work out? At what point can any damage to a statue or memorial mean a longer prison sentence them killing someone?

That's the term for manslaughter Mac. What would you expect him to get?
No one was ever going to get 10 years for statues. You wouldn't even get 10 weeks.

Someone has died, but manslaughter means he didn't intend to kill him. You can get 2-10 years for that, so 8 years isn't that lenient in line with what the law were permitted to give him.

Yeh that's what I am saying. As the law stands he got a long'ish sentence. But if it were down to me a much longer sentence would have been available considering the level of immorality of his acts.

Well, as you're not a lawyer and not privy to the case then I'll go with the judges decision on this.
Why didn't he get the maximum sentence if it was so bad? It sounded to me from reports that there was a fair bit of provocation from Atkinson so perhaps that was taken into consideration in the case.
I wonder if Atkinson had been a white, unemployed Jeremy Kyle type deadbeat you'd be so bothered. Still got the woke halo I see?

The courts have a sentencing guide book they have to stick with.Where I live was the Colin Pitchfork murder scene of 2 teenage girls. The first person to get caught through DNA testing and he has just been considered for payroll after I think 30 odd years inside.Locals are going mad but that is the rules and no way will he ever be allowed in this area probably on a curfew and tag for many more years

You can't. It was never a law that you would get 10 years for doing anything to a statue and in practice no one would ever get anything remotely like that.
It's funny that you accuse people of jumping to tabloid reactions when that is precisely what you are doing here.
