Next Scotland assistant
Now that Mikey Blair has been appointed as Edinburgh Head Coach to replace Richard Cockerill it looks highly likely that Gregor Townsend will be on the lookout for a new assistant so does anyone on here have any ideas or preferences as to who could be considered or contenders for the position?
Could someone like a John Barclay be a contender or am I over thinking this lol.
As most of you peeps on here know, I've only really started watching club rugby this past season so I don't really have any ideas on who could be considered for the assistant job etc hence why I have started this topic .

Re: Next Scotland assistant
A lot of the former pro or international players all appear to have taken posts recently. Or they are specialists, like Al Dickenson.
I think that we would benefit from a non-scot assistant, who would provide a potentially more impartial view.
Other than that could Roddy Grant be an option maybe?

Would you want someone who is being groomed for head job or to bring in more knowledge.
I think Steve Tandy has done well as the defence coach and having Townsend overseeing all attacking things could Tandy be assistant over seeing defence with up and coming people working under them. Being a defence coach learning under Tandy would be great for aspiring coaches as he could provide alot of knowledge and have them learn from his mistakes such as taking on a big job to soon.
Tandy is obviously well respected by Townsend and Gatland or he wouldn't have got the Lions gig.
