Re: Ireland U20s 2022
After watching the two Irish locks along with Culhane at no.8 playing against Wales, I understand why Josh Murphy has moved over to Connacht. Hopefully one of those locks manages to progress through the Leinster set up.
Chay Mullins is a class player, I could see England making an approach
Solid half-backs and a high tempo backrow.
The props were commendable in taking on vastly outsized opponents.
It will be interesting to see how they get on against monster u20 sides like France and England.

Won with last minute try and conversion. Fantastic finish and deserved over the 80 min even though France looked like they had it won.

Re: Ireland U20s 2022
Ireland's defence was immense. Lineout, driving maul and kicking by 10 were top drawer.
Definitely helped that the French 9 had hands of stone. Dropped three offloads that could have set up scoring opportunities.

Re: Ireland U20s 2022
Jude Postlethwaite was recently given a 3 year senior deal by Ulster so will be interesting to see how he goes for U-20's Friday
Re: Ireland U20s 2022
Comfortable win 39-12 for Ireland, Italians discipline and multiple yellow cards didn't help them at all.
Re: Ireland U20s 2022
Have not seen any Ireland under 20s. are the 9 and10 as good as sexton and murry have been for the senior Ireland team?

They've been solid. Kicking from hand is a weak point.
Overall this year's group are much better than last years. That's the way it goes. I can see plenty of these players have good careers. If I was to pick the players with most potential it would be Boyle (1), Culhane (8), Gibbons (center), postlethwaite (center), Mullins (14), Campbell (15) but you could easily make a case for 10 others. Crothers (7) is a very good captain.
Like Dan Kelly before him I wouldn't be surprised to see England go after Mullins. He is a Bristol player from england but as the name suggests, Irish qualified.

Re: Ireland U20s 2022
Creuthers has been an excellent captain so could definitely go forward with Ulster. Postlethwaite is a big lad already and has a 3 year senior deal with Ulster before even playing a competitive game so he looks like a promising prospect
Re: Ireland U20s 2022
Not U20s but there's an U18 6 nations tournament in France in april. Each team plays 3 matches.
Ireland:
v France 9th,
v Italy 13th,
v Wales 17th.

Re: Ireland U20s 2022
It'll be interesting to see how they get on in this match up. I've been impressed with a lot of this batch across the board so far. Is there a cohort here that could become the spine of a rwc 2027 when they'd be c.25 prime years.

The 2019s won the grand slam. The 2020s won 3 in a row before it got cancelled due to covid. They were looking good for the slam.

Team named for Scotland.
Only one Munster starter and all 13 forwards are from Leinster or Ulster.
Cause for concern in Limerick and Galway

Not too concerned but it's a complex answer.
Munster academy manager Peter Malone was let go last year and replaced by Ian Costello. By all accounts he is doing a good job but results might be years away. The Ulster players coming through now is probably a combination of a very good crop and a lot of work done in previous years.
Munster had a good crop in 2019 and 2020 but there's been feck all Limerick players for years. Actually just 1 in a few years. That's Munsters problem area. Other than that there seems to be a nice supply from rural clubs with the likes of Coombes, Hodnett, Ahern, Wycherleys, Healy, Crowley etc.

Cricket score for Ireland 59-5
Postlewaite MOM, class act no wonder Ulster have given him a 4 year contract before he has played a single minute for the 1st XV
To be fair though, Scotland were a total shambles

He was excellent today, Scotland were totally outmatched though. Great to see some talent coming through with 2 grand slams recently.
Re: Ireland U20s 2022
Turned out to be an excellent squad of players. Culhane was my player of the tournament but they all played well and even improved with more games.
There are talks about a tournament in the summer as there's no world championship. Hopefully it goes ahead.
29 tries scored which is the second most ever I think. Think France scored 30 5 or 6 years ago. Might have been Duponts year.

Re: Ireland U20s 2022
I wonder if it will be a sort of Euros championship in the summer. It'd be great to see Georgia U20s (who were competitive in the most recent world champs) getting some game time and the likes of Spain and Portugal.profitius wrote:Turned out to be an excellent squad of players. No point starting a new thread for them so I'll add them here.
Congrats to James Culhane who won the player of the 6 nations.

Curious to know how that happened? You beat them in France during the proper 6N.

Mainly down to the players missing. 7 backline changes and 4 forward changes. Some other players too who were next in line. But the main thing was they looked disorganised. France are a good team in fairness and looked well drilled.

Lost 24 to 33 against the baby boks. Not a bad result considering where the team is at.

Yeah I watched it but it was something like 26-10 at half time. The game was effectively over. The 20s did rally in the 2nd half though and made a good game of it but were never close to winning.

26-3 down at half time.
France looked better than SA but they lost to England who lost to SA. I'd say we'll lose to England and play Scotland in the final game.
