Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
First topic message reminder :
It does seem that this cat video is pretty old. But, also oeople seem more upset about it then say, Chelsea having a player who killed someone when he was drink driving.
We are a nation of animal lovers, my mum was all in on Romanian rescue dogs, not so keen on Romanian people.

Net zero and its like has always polled pretty popular. It seems levies run st appx £150pa for people. Which is a drop in the ocean compared to overall costs.

Green levy is equal to 8% and VAT is 5%, so why not just take it off?

Because as mentioned in the article it seems to have benefitted many people especially those on lower incomes.

Yeah, sure it has. Ask someone on low income now if they give a toss about net zero or heating their home

Ultimately schemes like net zero are a con anyway. If governments were really serious about climate change they would be reducing the carbon pumped out in the first place.

Sounds a lot when they word it like that, in reality it's just £60 a year which is a tiny percentage of the increase to everyone's energy bills.
The real crime has been not investing in nuclear and closing down perfectly good coal stations.

Just leave it to the market, it will resolve everything... from Net Zero to the Cost of living the market is king, let it sort it out. That's the ideological line and that's all this government are serious about...unless of course their mates run out of money then us taxpayers get to help...yay!!

And put the entire country into poverty? Great idea Mac.
Net Zero isn't the problem, it's laughably unrealistic timescales. We rely oil and gas for our standard of living and getting rid when we don't have alternatives for everything we need it for is the problem theseTabitha's and Hugo's s face and can't grasp

Wages falling in real terms, bills going through the roof, businesses are struggling. So let's leak that the government will look at reducing your holidays and protection if you don't want to work over 48hr per week.
Who are they trying to appeal to. Can't just be old people.

Moving this hear from another thread...
Has he specifically been asked and can one view the response on publicly available media? Not that I'd wish to view it as it would probably be an hour long diversionary thesis on all the ins and outs of why. If on the other hand some hack in the Daily Mail said so then it must be true. Speaking of hacks I took a boot load of apples from my garden to be juiced last week. The guy that does the juicing is a former journalist who has clearly made his millions (unless he's squatting in his sizeable rural Wiltshire pad) anyways we got talking and it turns out we are fellow "champagne" socialists as right wing zealots would term us or hard working aspirational working class that haven't forgot our roots as we called ourselves. Apparently many of the journos that trot out Murdoch, Dacre & Barclay brothers bilge actually moonlight quite a bit on lesser known left wing blogs & podcasts.
Anyway back to the assertion that Corbyn refuses to condemn Russia

It came from the Golf in the crisis thread. Super (who’s apparently not a Tory) decided to defend them for the umpteenth time saying that the energy crisis wasn’t their fault. I jokingly and sarcastically chipped in that yeah it’s all Corbyns fault which then led to the erroneous change comment that Corbyn refused to condemn Russia. Classic deflection from the issue.
We all get that the fuel crisis is a world event and that individual governments can’t always prevent. However it is their duty to protect people from the worst effects of world events. Leaving sarcasm out of it this time round the Tories are wilfully culpable of neglect in protecting our people from the worst effects of this crisis, they’ve basically thrown half the population under the bus to line the pockets of their corporate mates.

I see Truss is off to a terrific start…appointing an obese smoker as Health Secretary, a brilliant example of how we could help the NHS by all taking a bit more personal responsibility for our own health.

I didn't day the energy crisis wasn't their fault, I said it was a combination of many things such as obsession with net zero, failure of successive governments planning, Ukraine etc.
Your implication that the energy crisis is purely down to this government is the laughable thing.

Apparently anti abortion as well. It is utterly crazy that a pro lifer can hold a position where they have authority over women's health in 2022. It is just so frustrating that we can't leave views like that in the past.

Anyone who holds any religious beliefs should be banned from office. Never ever heard an anti choice position that wasn't couched through religious indoctrination.

Look at it this way Mac, if you're the sort of moron who genuinely believes in what ghastly and immoral books like the Bible or Koran teach, what other unacceptable beliefs might one hold and attempt to shoehorn into law?
Look at the influence of religion in places like USA for example, and how much better systems that are far more secular are.
For example, were homosexuality not so derided in all religion, would it have taken until the 21st century to have gay marriage? Would science be so held back if idiotic theology wasn't so entrenched in our education?

For me the ideal would be that people with religious views wouldn't be elected or get into positions of authority. But the way you worded it sounded like you were talking about banning them from those positions. Quite different.

I'll reword what I said. I'm happy to have people hold whatever beliefs they like, but we have no responsibility to give beliefs which are indistinguishable from fairy tales special treatment, respect, deference or any position of authority in our society.
Did you know for example that religions, despite all their wealth, property and land ownership pay no tax?
Why aren't we taxing The Church of England for example?
We could start by chucking all clergy from the House of Lords and not letting people like the Archbishop of Canterbury to opine on anything not connected to his myths. Who cares what he thinks?

I don't understand how anyone can be against gay marriage or where they get that idea.
I'd you don't like gay marriage, it's simple, don't marry a gay person, otherwise how could who someone else is married to bother anyone?

Nothing wrong with being really anti religion. If people want to believe in mythical beings they get mocked accordingly, it's no different to believing elves and hobbits are real.

I’m not religious. Certainly not anti religion. If people want to be religious that’s fine with me. Have friends and some family who are religious. No bother, they just get on with it. I leave them to it and they don’t bother me with it. All good.
Certainly wouldn’t mock people for it. Bit sad in my book.

Certainly wouldn’t mock people for it. Bit sad in my book.
But hey we’re all different.
Would you not think someone who thought they had an invisible friend was a bit mad though?
Mad people probably do think that way.
To answer your question, probably would, but I also wouldn’t let it bother me.
My point is, just because people think differently, believe in things I don’t, no matter how far fetched they maybe, it’s just something I’m not to concerned with.
I’ve got more important things to concern myself with than someone being religious.
