Ireland Tour of New Zealand 2022
First topic message reminder :
In addition to three tests, Ireland are playing 2 non-test matches against NZ Māori. Farrell plans to take an expanded squad as a result that will allow him see a few other non-regulars perform. The newer ones may only be required for the 2 NZ Māori matches
Assuming current injuries allow some players to travel, the touring squad will likely include most of the 6N picks plus some more - up to say 42 players.
Ireland will likely win two of the matches and things will likely go to the third test to decide matters.
Forwards 22
7 Props - Furlong, Porter, Bealham, O’Toole, Loughman?
3 Hookers - Sheehan, Herring, Heffernan?
6 Locks - Ryan, Henderson, Beirne, Baird, Treadwell, J McCarthy?
6 B/rows - VdF, Conan, Coombes, Doris, O’Mahony, Timoney? Prendergast?
Backs 20
4 SH Gibson-Park, Murray, Casey
4 10s Sexton, Carbery, H Byrne?
5 Centres Aki, Henshaw, Ringrose, Hume? Frawley?
7 Back-threes - Keenan, Lowe, Hansen, Lowry? J O’Brien?

The card was yellow because it was deemed a passive soak tackle and so a lower level of danger.
Big call for Ireland to go for the corner now, though.

Is it wrong of me to start looking at score updates, because watching the match itself is unbearable?

NZ have deffo lost their magic cloak of getting all the decisions.
Just look at that knock on. JGP knocked it on and the scrum has been set 15yards down the park where the ball landed, not where he knocked it on

In earlier years, you’d have backed the All Blacks to be able to score twice at the death, but these guys look just as likely to give away a silly penalty or turnover

Ireland’s last ditch defence has been phenomenal. I can’t see two tries coming in the last 4 minutes as things stand

Wow what a performance from Ireland. Best I've ever seen them play. Massive respect for Farrell and his coaching team.

My only regret here is that Robertson is going to get the job sooner than I'd hope ie before he's had a go with England.

Very good from Ireland over this series. I hope they haven't done that thing where they peak in a non-World Cup year.
NZ in a crisis. Their worst run in decades, could get even worse.

The ABs are usually the team with the greatest rugby intelligence. Now they're taking a tap pen in the own 22 with a minute left.
This is definitely the weakest I've seen the ABs in my entire time watching rugby!
Huge credit to Ireland - they've absolutely brought it this series. Who would want to play them in the WC...!

A series win in NZ, not many NH players have that on their CV. Fantastic result and will send confidence through the roof ahead of the world cup next year.

Wow. What a series win. Didn’t see that coming 2 weeks ago.
Great play from all, especially Beirne.
Fair play to Farrell and the coaching staff.
History has been made.
Brilliant.
Not to early for a pint of Guinness

Re: Ireland Tour of New Zealand 2022
Congratulations Ireland
Nice to see the Irish players/coach and fan reaction and what it meant
Better team by far, enjoy the historic series win in NZ, not a big list and it was well earned. Accurate, passionate, some nice backline play to score tries tonight, key turnovers…just good execution at the right times.
From an AB fan perspective, pretty abysmal tbf, the 2nd half tonight was the only time they started to play as they should.

Just kidding. I think Ireland are as good as they have been for the last 2 years, maybe now only slightly better.
I’ll stick my neck out and say, France have peaked too soon. They’ll bottle it on home soil at the World Cup.

I’m sure no one will agree but I reckon Sexton has been the best player in the world this year. He has only lost one match which he was winning when he went off injured.

I think Josh van der Flier is ahead of him on that front. He's been phenomenal - a player transformed in the last 12-18 months.

You could have dropped any of the 4 10s that were selected. Sexton is better than all of them in my view. He has beat the ABs 6 times now. He is just the sort of 10 you want for really tight high pressure series.

Possibly, but would they have been so effective this season with that extra 6 or 7 weeks last year? Lancaster was on the BBC rugby podcast a few weeks ago and said having a pre season really helped Sexton. Think there might be some truth in it.
