England post 2022 6Ns, Aus tour and beyond
First topic message reminder :
In five starts and four sub appearances he's bagged five tries. One appearance and one try for England.
It's a bench lacking experience but it's the type of players we'd like to have as options come the world cup.
Ignore the front row that pretty much picked itself.
Chessum - covers lock and 6 highly mobile and physical, good lineout option and we've been desperate for a young lock to come through.
Ludlam - covers 8 and 7 which is what the bench needs, club captain so adds much needed leadership here.
JVP - no one likes the current 9 options for last season's Under 20 captain and player of the J6N gets a chance. Best kicking game of the three 9s on tour and likes to play high tempo.
Porter - covers every position in the backs outside of 9 and 10, could probably do a job on the flank as well. Eddie likes a versatility option as they very much help the overall squad come world cup so audition time for Guy.
Arundell - exciting young player, not ready yet but Eddie will be hoping some international game time might speed up his development. Unlikely starter but potential game changer off the bench, always handy to have one of those at a world cup. Porter's inclusion means Arundell won't have to go in early unless there's multiple injuries.

Don't think the Wallabies are close to competing in a single metric of the game - England should romp home if they keep this up.
Wallabies look lost!

Clear cover from Australia defence so definitely not a pen try but clear penalty and if you go one handed, basically no chance of catching it, near the line these days it's always a yellow.lostinwales wrote:king_carlos wrote:One hand, very unlikely to catch it, clearly stopping the ball getting to the outside man. Not got Sky so not watching it, but did it stray into penalty try territory?

England messing up clear scoring opportunities. Too frantic.

Nowell's got to cut in there. Just too easy to tackle him into touch. His defence is still fantastic but not quite the same impact ball in hand these days.
Being very critical Freeman was on George's outside but it's a tough pass to expect a hooker to throw in that situation!

Potentially but the England receiving player was a bit flat-footed so good chance the cover would've got across.

England have three very good lineout jumpers but still so inconsistent on their own ball. Very frustrating aspect of England's game recently. With Proudfoot and Cockers both involved they're hardly short of coaching in that area either.

Why are England taking the points here and not kicking to the corner? After all. the lineout is mostly working and the mauls have been great.

Lots of complaints from England fans on here - you'd think you weren't 19-0 up after 32 minutes!

Not sure there was much cover but he was quite a way out. Couldn't definitively say he'd make it so it would have been a tough call.

First real attack for Australia and they get a try. Keeps them in it. A good demonstration of their power if they get front-foot ball.

Assisted by Brace with that ridiculous scrum penalty call but England's defence never go set we were all at sea from the first Aussie carry.

Itoje out cold straight after the try, double blow in quick succession for England.

Huge opportunity for Cheesum. Will he take it? Changes the complexion of the rest of the match.

12 point lead doesn't quite do justice to England's dominance. If Australia get the first try of the second half it's game on. Losing Itoje could be a turning point.

Utter dominance from England - the only negative is they weren't further ahead. Still plenty rugby to go but it would be a remarkably result if England lose from here. Wallabies try a glimmer of hope but a long way back.

It does mean the rest of the England pack need to up the contest at the breakdown. Chessum isn't bad at spoiling mauls so he can take on that role. I wonder if we'll see the backrow replacement's quite early to give us more breakdown presence early on the second half.

Re: England post 2022 6Ns, Aus tour and beyond
Much better from England, kind of like the first half last week except we kept taking points.
Score definitely flatters the Wallabies. I'm a bit worried that we won't come out for the second half again and/or Brace will turn on us.
Listening to Harrison try to argue that the yellow card was the same as Hill's knock on was laughable.
Have we got a big enough lead? Can we keep up the intensity? Eddie needs to mange the substitutions well. Feels like a big second half for England, we need it more than them.

I'm guessing it is part of a game plan, but I really wish Smith would stop kicking the ball needlessly when we are attacking their 22.

Watched the Genge incident again - definitely a yellow. If a deliberate, off the ball forearm to a prone player on the ground is a pen only, and trying to intercept is a yellow there's something really wrong with the laws. Worth remembering straight after that incident he got a scrum pen which then led to an England try.

Strange how it's England's ball from that. Considered he was injured upon landing I would have given Aussie the scrum. Horrible injury.

Yeah pretty harsh, but technically correct. Huge as it's led to 3 possible.
Wallabies discipline has been shocking - pretty much every England visit to the 22 has led to an almost immediate penalty advantage.

England's defence doesn't look good at all, any pressure applied and they don't have the answer.
Eight point game. If Australia get the next score they're favourites.

Two tries where Smith hasn’t covered himself in glory. Shot up and left the gap in first half. Up against a big man for second one but he has to do better

Very much so and the moronic yellow card won't help.
Eddie needs to use the bench and freshen the side up, get some fresh legs to bring back the intensity.

England really need to learn to turn momentum around when in this situation. It always goes this way, when things start going against us they inevitably do something boneheaded and fold.

England are pretty much passive now, like a knacked boxer taking punishment. Need a leader to galvanise them, grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
