2022 T20 World Cup thread
First topic message reminder :
We're now just over a fortnight out from the qualifying round, and team news is ever changing around the teams in the tournament.
Unfortunately today Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament (and a while after) with a back injury. Big blow to India that one, and a World Cup with no Archer/Bumrah (arguably the two best t20 fast bowlers in the world) is a huge shame

Stirling well caught then - unfortunately for West Indies , it was by a spectator
101/1 ... just need 46 more and nine overs to do it : doubt even SA could lose from here...

Not just a win , this : a total slaughter of West Indies . Ireland would wish they could carry their run rate forward to the main group after this one ...

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
Ireland in the Super 12 will only add to the tournament. I can only imagine how many Irish fans will come out of the woodwork to attend the matches at the bigger venues. More than the West Indies that's for sure.
There should be a great atmosphere at some of the bigger matches (weather permitting) with all the England, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan fans here. Even the Afghan and Bangladesh teams will have decent support. Add some locals, Saffas and Kiwis... there should be some good matches in there. Maybe the Scots can join the Super 12 too if things turn out well for them in the next game?

Indeed : maybe the Scots can join the party ? Still not raining in Hobart - of course if it does get washed away Scotland would progress on run rate. Prefer to see some cricket though...

I forgot the Dutch of course.
A bit worried about the weather here for tomorrow evening. Quite warmish, humid and overcast all day. Bits of rain here and there but not torrential downpours. Hopefully we'll get a game in although it wouldn't surprise me if there are a couple of rain interruptions. Fingers crossed...

Hope it holds off for you , PJ. Be a pity to have opening rounds messed about .
After all the dire threats of heavy rain , there hasn't been as much here - yet. In fact basically dry all day though clouds are lurking. Am hoping it stays that way so my own game will go ahead tomorrow !

Fantastic result for Ireland and a good comeback after losing the opener. A thrashing of the West Indies and the Irish will likely end up in England's group. If Stirling and Campher stay in form with the bat, maybe a couple more wins aren't beyond them.
West Indies in a tail spin. Only two wins at the last ODI World Cup and just two wins in the last two T20 World Cups. A team rife with division and infighting.
Scotland batting first v Zimbabwe. Early wicket means they're 5/1 after the first.

Hope ye are all well?
Absolutely over the moon for Ireland today, massive win.
I am also secretly happy the Windies are out. I do think they are over hyped from the IPL.

132 for Scotland. They struggled immensely with the accurate Zimbabwean bowling and the slowness of the pitch. Not a single six in the innings and, at one point, they went nearly 11 overs without hitting a four.
Shouldn't be enough.

Great result for your boys Billy! Should be a hard out in the Super 12 stages too, especially if Stirling has now found some form

Great to see you back on here , eirebilly ! And on such an auspicious day
No joy for Scotland though , I fear... Just didn't get near enough runs ; and despite some early problems , Zimbabwe have it covered now. Not likely to fold up now.Scots have had some good fun and a major scalp but this will be it for them (even though they've just snagged a fourth wicket to keep the game just about alive.
Today is all about Ireland though ...

Ha... Only need 14 ...but Ervine has holed out so five down now.
They couldn't implode , could they ? Not from here , surely. But they are near neighbours to SA so you never know

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
Zimbabwe end up cruising home after a tricky start. Ervine played the anchor role well, and Raza continued his superb form by providing the aggressive intent.
Scotland can have no complaints. If a team doesn't score a single six in a T20 they don't deserve to win. But Scotland will be frustrated as, like Namibia, they toppled a big nation in game one and then went on to lose two games that were easier on paper - in particularly they had Ireland nearly finished off.
Zimbabwe have been great to watch so far and I think they'll get a couple more wins, even though they almost certainly won't make the semis.
The First Round has been excellent, we'll see if the Super 12s match it. Predictions for who makes the semis? I'm being very safe and thinking it'll be Aus, Eng, Ind and SA, though Pakistan have the potential to squeeze through. Rain can, however, disrupt everything.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
No Scottish fairytale...Zimbabwe home and dry . Never likely to defend that rather disappointing total. Have to credit the Zimbabwe bowlers but I think the Scots might feel they could have been a bit bolder with the bat.
Good that all the qualifiers were settled on the pitch : hopefully the threatened rain won't spoil too many of the main group games...

Should rest Woakes if there's any doubt about his fitness capabilities.
England's first two games are v Afghanistan and Ireland, so a chance to start fast and build early momentum for the later stages. Have to be targeting big wins as well in case NRR comes into play.

Lucky there is no WC fixture in Melbourne today - has been hosing down since last night (just paused now) and my own club competition was abandoned well in advance of this afternoon. Not too hopeful for India/Pakistan tomorrow as more rain predicted I'm afraid.
Not liking the look of the forecast for Sydney this evening either

Things look much worse on the weather maps but so far today there's been no rain. It has been '80% chance of rain' all day... but so far nothing.
It's more likely we'll have thunderstorms later tonight - but that will be mostly inland and not on (or near) the coast where the ground is. There is a chance of some rain though around 8pm tonight... so it could affect the 2nd innings after the break.
I saw the bearded chap with the spectacles... forget his name (but he looks like a meteorological expert to me) on the weather channel around lunchtime saying things will clear up for you tomorrow in Melbourne but then there'll be some more rain on Monday. Pity about your match being abandoned but hopefully we should get some play in the big one tomorrow.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
The qualifying rounds turned out to be unexpectedly interesting.
Bit sad about WI's exit ...for they could be world champions on another day ...and they might in next edition.
These T20 world cups occur quite frequently....like Masala fast-food.
To be honest I can't remember which team won each of the editions of T20 world cup
While I even remember the approx scorelines of each of the 50 over world cup finals.
Its unambiguously clear that this shortest format is where emerging nations are more competitive
and
Conversely a confirmation that test match the most difficult format.
India find herself in relatively easier of the two groups...while the other one is the group of death
Afg is the team to watch out , that can and will cause a few upsets.
If the Ind game rains out tomm, both teams will be saved the ignominy of defeat in highly charged nationalistic environment these days, especially on the Indians side.
It will be entertainment nevertheless over next 3 weeks

Williamson comes in and slows everything down. Seven balls and just one scoring shot.
Still a strong powerplay for NZ. 65 from it. Should be looking for 200+ from here.

Suppose 97/1 at half way represents a bit of a claw back by Australia after 46 from the first three...
But NZ have plenty of wickets in hand to go hard so I think they'll be the happier team at the moment.
