First topic message reminder :

So the Championship returns (briefly) inbetween this T20 season and the squad has been named. Clive keeps his place after his excellent debut and Ansari earns himself a place. To the delight of most if us (especially depressed) Schofield is nowhere to be seen, unfortunately neither is Meaker which is a real shame, his injury must have been quite bad. Ansari surely will be the one to miss out. Dernbach, Linley, Dunn and Arafat as a seam bowling unit is pretty decent.

Batting in the CC generally seems difficult today. Kent all out for 87 against Middlesex whilst Leics are currently 164 - 9 against Northants, surprise team of the season.

Difficult conditions for us and all or just poor batting?

People still in T20 mode maybe? I don't really agree with sticking a Championship game right in the middle of the (too long) T20 tournament. Must be hard to adjust for the players.

250 seems a long way off ....

guildford i would have said winning the toss but have just seen leics won it and batted

Dunn normally bats at eleven for the seconds. If Freddie van den Bergh plays, Dunn will often go in at ten with Freddie beneath him. Mind you, Freddie looks so young I would guess he needs a note from his mum if play goes on past 7 o'clock ....

JimBob - I was also surprised that the Viscount and Clive opened. I suppose Hyphen is giving them a vote of confidence and telling them to carry on where they left off against Derbys ....

This isn't looking good is it - Arafat continues to disappoint on what must surely be a helpful pitch for the bowlers..............although no-one is hardly proving that point!

A wicket for Dernbach!

64 - 2. Interesting ....

Dernbach gets a wicket. 5 overs 1 for 3 for him. A mistake not to open with him imo, I know it showed faith and loyalty in Clive after his last performance but Jade is our best bowler and should be bowling first.

Bowling figures so far:

Dernbach 1 for 4 off 7 overs;
Viscount 1 for 17 off 5 overs;
Arafat 0 for 20 off 4 overs.

That sort of sums up our reliance on Dernbach, the useful input from Viscount and the concern over Arafat ....

Arafat going for a lot of runs. Again. Get The Viscount back on.

As if to emphasise my last point, Dernbach now has 1 - 4 off 8 overs whilst Arafat has 0 - 31 off his 5 ....

Looking bad now, need to break this partnership soon.

If he wasn't an overseas player he wouldn't be anywhere near our team on his form from this season.

A good wicket for Clive and us. Should steady his nerves for the morning.

Decent bowling from the Viscount and Dernbach. Another dreadful return for Arafat. More than forty overs bowled but no sign of Batty - iif he doesn't get to play a meaningful part over the middle and latter stages of this game we might as well play Zafar the gaffer (a better batsman) or Harinath (out and out batsman).

Good knock from the Brain and undelivered promise from le Roi Tail wagged a bit but generally disappointing with the willow.

Currently we are behind against a team we should be comfortably beating if promotion is a realistic target ....

Need Dernbach and Viscount to open in the morning, and get amongst the wickets quickly, or this is another game we'll be praying for rain in!

If we can keep them to under 300 and then bat very well we are still in with a shot. It's a big IF though isn't it? Personally I'm not too confident but we shall see.

Rather disappointing day. Comparison between Dernbach and Arafat is stark. If we can restrict Gloucs to a lead of less than 50 all is not lost. But batsmen will need more application.

Maynard has dropped Payne this morning already, apparently that's the third dropped catch of the innings. Not good enough.

Now he's dropped Gidman as well. And Arafat could have used that wicket, never mind Surrey...

If you think things are bad at the moment, wait til Norah bowls!

The brain has picked up a couple now, still might not get too big a lead.
