Folk are beng harsh on Prior. He generaly kept well to agressive bowling with uneven bounce. His batting suffered by being asked to come out and commit suicide so they could declare on two occassions.
He still managed to get a vital century scored at a decent pace from just 3 innings

To rate him as 5 is ridculous

nah I agree with CF, 6 for Prior is about right. One splendid knock and admittedly didn't get much more of a chance after that, but his keeping wasn't that good I thought (struggled at Lords, albeit to some wayward bowling), and he loses a point for the smashed window

For me Prior has done well he gave his wicket away in search of quick runs twice. scored a 100 without his Hundred we could have been looking to save the lords test rather then win try to win it. Yes there where plenty of byes at lords but that was more to do with the bowling rather than the keeping.

Strauss: 3 - did nothing with the bat. His captaincy was ok, he is a great man-manager but a bit "sterile" tactically, in that he sticks with whatever the plan is (sometimes for too long) and can be a bit unimaginative in field placings. Dropped a catch on the final morning, had he taken it I think England may have given themselves a chance.

Cook: 9 - what else is there to say? Runs, runs, runs. Has sorted out his technique and will undoubtedly retire with the highest number of test centuries by an England player at the time.

Trott: 8 - great double century (don't forget he came in with England in slight trouble), another 50 and a couple of failures. Took a vital wicket with the ball, but bowling looks average to put it nicely.

Pietersen: 7 - decent if not outstanding. Two quality knocks and one decent start. Fielded well as always.

Bell: 9 - outstanding series, great to watch, what a transformation!

Morgan: 7 - a bit like Pietersen. He'll be disapointed not to have converted at least once (to be fair he sacrificed his wicket at the Rose Bowl), but ideal no6 and can hit the ball anywhere. Just love watching him bat. England's best fielder.

Prior: 6 - great century (although a lot of the hard work was done when he came in), little else due to circumstances. Kept ok but no better, let a few through which he should have stopped. Don't give a d@mn about the window.

Swann: 8 - the only time he got a pitch with any turn and bounce he took 4 wickets. The best spinner in world cricket by a mile at the moment.

Broad: 4.5 - poor for most of the series, although bowled some good spells also (Cardiff 2nd innings comes to mind). One good knock with the bat as well.

Tremlett: 8 - would have been 9 but for the first innings at Lords. Bowled outstandingly well throughout, I think he'll trouble the indians.

Anderson: 7 - bowled better in Cardiff than his figures say, missed Lords through injury and still slightly off colour at the Rose Bowl. Batted well, and fielded well.

Finn: 6 - somewhat flattered by his figures, tough to judge on just one test.

SRI LANKA

Parantivana: 7 - Got some good starts but failed to capitalise. Looks a solid enough opener and I think he'll have a decent test career.

Thriammane: 5 - mainly for character. Technically I don't rate him that high as he plays away from his body. Don't think he can succeed everywhere as an opening batsman.

Dilshan: 7.5 - captaincy was awfully defensive, seemed he never actually believed they could win a match. Batted brilliantly at Lords, and OK at Cardiff.

M. Jayawardene: 3 - for a player of his class to do so badly is poor. Gets squared up when the bowlers pitch back of a length, which is how he got out just about every time.

Sangakara: 5 - awful series apart from 1 knock.

Samaweera: 5 - don't rate the guy very highly, but he did well in the final innings. Unspeakable shot to get out 2nd innings in Cardiff.

P. Jayawardene: 8 - after Dilshan comfortably SL's best batsman, surprised he only averages 30 odd in tests, looked good against Seam and spin. Kept ok but not upto his high standards.

Maharoof: 1 - no comment.

Perera: 4 - not a test cricketer but showed commitment and tried his hardest.

Mendis: 2 - looked toothless, awful fielder, can't bat.

Herath: 5 - kept it tight with the ball but I don't think he compares all that favourably to say Paul Harris. Irresponsible with the bat.

Weledegara: 7 - Sri Lanka's best seamer and the only one who got any zip off the wicket. Needs to be told that throwing your wicket away when batting is not acceptable even if at number 11.

Fernando: 4 - he gets those for batting. His bowling was pants.

Lakmal: 5 - a bit like Herath, seems like he can keep it tight but gets little or no response out of the wicket and no swing so I can't see him getting many good players out.

im sorry but perera didnt show commitment the way he batted in the final test, 1st innings, where he last 6 balls, and played horrifically, the shot he got out to showed no commtimwent to the team and showed that he didnt wanna be there, but apart from that bell should be 10 apart from agree

I think with Perera you have to accept that that's the way he played. People have praised Harbajhan to the skies for his counter-attack against the West indies, but if say he'd missed his sweep early on (he was on 8?) against Bishoo and got out, would you say that was an irresponsible shot? I think Perera was trying to take some initiative away from England, it was IMO a laudable aim...

yh but he didnt look up for the cause, you cant compare him and harbajhan, when conditions were a lot different with better bowlers
