Wimbledon Day 3
First topic message reminder :
Morning Tennis Fans,
Lots of criticism aimed at Wimbledon organisers as Murray will be on Court 1 and not Centre Court with rain forecasted. Nadal is in action as is Venus Williams. Berdych, Del Potro and Gasquet also in action. Watson and Keothavong in action for British interest today.
Interesting Jimmy Connors backs Isner to put in a performance at Wimbledon? Partisan vote there

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
Laura gives one break back, no first serves in that game, and Kerber makes her pay. Laura did however notch up her 30th forehand winner in that game, which is quite remarkable

Kerber calling an MTO. I hope Laura keeps her composure out there.

What a winner to hit after an MTO delay by Robson there. Kerber holds. 4-2 Robson.

Bloody Lucky Rafa again!
I mean frankly..how many times has that happened.
Wait for Delpo to bang his head in the changing rooms smaller doors, Murray is going to slip on the soap while showering and Federer will beat an unbeatable Djoko!
It's all in the script.

Oh dear oh dear. Laura should've put that point away at 40-30. What a gift!! Arghhhhhhhh!

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
terrible game from Laura that, works her way to 40-15, but then makes error after error and gives back the break, so we're back on serve...

I am now over to the Kvitova and Keothavong match and Kvitova is a set up

Lovely forehand, and to be fair she showed really good mental stregth in both sets 2 and 3, having nearly blown them. Fantastic stuff and we do have three women in the second round at wimbledon!

Kvitova won the first set 6-2 and is now a break up on Keothavong. Not looking good and Court 1 is empty which is shame for a British player.

If Laura Robson makes it to the 2nd week, will Henman Hill become Robson Green?

Quite interesting point. Kvitova hits a FH off a groundstroke that was out and then challenged it when she netted and got the call. Interesting debate on the use of Hawkeye.

The BBC?? Doesn't surprise me. Not sure why they are promoting someone from ITV. I will expect someone to get their ear bent.

Keothavong looks off the pace. Kvitova isn't exactly the quickest on her feet, but Anne looks sluggish.

Kvitova leads 3-1 in the 2nd. Not looking good for Keothavong.

Kvitova seals the double break. Leads 4-1 in the 2nd. Such a pity to see Anne torn to shreds like this.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
WELL DONE LAURA!! I thought she was going to blow it in the 3rd as I've known her lose big leads before, probably due to inexperience as much as anything, so hopefully this will be a psychological turning point for her. Also you could possibly call it her 1st proper win in a tour level main draw, as her win over Voegele at Birmingham last year was on a second set retirement. After all her injury problems hopefully she's on the way up again.

Keothavong OUT in straight sets 6-2 6-1. Well done to Kvitova. Played a solid second set there. Not sure where Anne goes from here.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
so happy for Laura Robson! She wobbled a bit in the third set but served it out brilliantly!
Anne was just totally outplayed today, which is a shame, still all the best for Baltacha and Robson going forward now!

She played superbly in that third set rd. Her forehand was monsterous.
Anne I feel sorry for. Not sure the long term effects that Knee Injury has had on her. She looks a yard slower in her steps

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
I don't think Anne should beat herself up too much - she was up against a very good player who was in great form. Her 1st round win should send her ranking back up to around the 100 mark and I can't think she's got that many points to defend for the next couple of months, so hopefully she can pick up a few more wins and establish herself on the main tour again.

On to the next event, which unlike this one, most people in this country won't even know she's playing. That's why people in this country feel that a British player's season is defined by a couple of matches in June.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
LK - I think with Anne tis just confidence with her knee, I know I've read interviews with her before where she's still been struggling with that (although that was probs about 6 months ago now). I just think her opponent was too good today. I mean Anne didn't have that many unforced error, Kvitova's (sp?) amount of winners was just crazy.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
Not too fussed about Anne losing, she was outplayed by Kvitova, who's an excellent grass court player, so there's no shame there, and at least she made it to R2. Great stuff from Laura who was on the verge of losing it, but she held it together beautifully. What a forehand!
Murray solid, and easing through in three sets, nothing wrong with that. Rochus has just won the first set against Del Potro, who's not happy out there as he keeps slipping on the grass. Doesn't look at home on the green stuff at all. They're off now.

I think it may be confidence. Her movement didn't look that great compared to 2010 before the injury. It is such a shame because she has done brilliantly in her career to get into the top 100.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
Wozniacki must wonder what she has to do to get a Centre Court billing considering she is ranked no.1 in the world. Quite surprised that Hewitt and Soderling is on Centre and not Djokovic?
Strange bookings

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
well Hewitt is a former champion, and his match against Soderling promises quite a bit of interest, so I can understand that. Wimbledon has always tended to spread out the players a bit more, remember Rafa being on court 1 a couple of times last year.

i think it is good that all the top players arent always on centre court, otherwise people may as well buy ground tickets rather than court 1 or 2 tickets.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
True, but if in past events previous number 1's have been on Centre Court, why not her? Just seems strange that she hasn't set foot on there yet considering her ranking.

Of course...Rochus won;t have this door banging head problem. He is just tall enough so he can smash Nadal's loopy grounds shots.
