The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

England gave the Baby Blacks a scare, didn't they?

It was Hughie. The camera’s don’t show the pulling and dragging that went before the free was given. It was clear as day in the stadium.

Morning
Sorry to hear about your FIL Rava. Hope he gets well soon.
Mickado - that's the one frustrating thing about listening to the GAA on the radio sometimes I didn't see the foul on Bernie.
Reading the papers this morning, I came across this...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Well, things happen when you’re watching a game live in the stadium and you only get to see them once, like rugby they don’t show contentious decisions on the big screen usually. And what I saw was a cross field ball played into space, once the ball was kicked I watched Brogan (he was the only one going to get near it), he started off apace and slowed up with his arm trailing behind him, I saw it as him being dragged back, if he wasn’t dragged back he would have won possession and I’m sure he would be confident of scoring in that position without the benefit of a free kick so why would he look for the free if there was none.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Mickado - so anyway, how was Bernie lookin'?
Staggy - I was interested in what it says about celebs and Twitter. I was actually saying on the off topic thread about Twitter - a lot of celebrities seem to use it to have slanging matches which would be better off unpublished. I suppose seeing something in the written word (as opposed to someone saying it to your face) has more impact and therefore reaction from the other person.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I don't know if I said it in here Cari but I mentioned it to Hobo and Luckless alright. In the last few weeks I've been writing a lot about 606 and how through social networking we are seeing a new type of support emerge and detailing the type of different people who appear on these forums. Kind of like Facebooks meets Fever Pitch. Some of the stuff seems a bit mad when I read back over it.

Bernie was looking pretty hot Cari, it was 25 degrees and we were all sweating buckets. The smell of alcohol coming out of people’s pores in Croker was acrid!
He won the game for you anyway, he dedicated it to you in the post match interview but they might cut it short on the Sunday game when you see it though

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeah Staggy, like everything else, social networking has his benefits as well as the negatives. This was something I mentioned in the 606 closing speech. The great things that happen don't get publicised. To put it another way, to have two famous people being really nice to each other on Twitter isn't as newsworthy as two well known people slagging each other off it seems.
@ Mickado. Typical bloody cutbacks, having to edit out the post match interviews!
every generation has it's gripes about things. In thirty years we'll all be griping about something that wasn't in "our" day.

Apparently the "Cooper rule" has been extended to include the Brogan brothers. This means any time either of them are touched they get a free.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Every generation seems to think that young people are “worse than ever” and that technology is at its zenith.
To bring things into balance maybe people should develop technology that helps people to be more civil?
Slagging matches on Twitter can be gas, BOD and ROG had a few funny exchanges before the HC final.

I am quite tolerant of young people, a lot more than I remember my father to be for example. Maybe its because I have young friends. Not that I agree with everything they say and do. But I can understand them I think.

Luckless, I can’t agree about regression. It’s in our nature to evolve socially and technologically, we need to be responsible with new ideas and technology but we regression is not the answer. For example, what if man continued with the Apollo program instead of pulling all the funding out to defend itself for the cold war, we could be mining priceless fuel there right now, lowering our dependency on fossil fuels and reducing the need to fight with middle eastern countries over oil reserves.

When we had the horse and cart the world was a massive place. I couldn’t dream of seeing the places I’ve seen, my horizons have been expanded by travel and I’m a better person for it. I can’t say that a return to simpler times would be anything other than a return to the dark ages.

Of course yes. To be honest though I think its good the whole "men not meant to show feelings" stigma is being slowly eroded. Think its healthier.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
We should continue pushing forwards with technology for certain things: scientific and medical research, for example. But progress isn't necessarily progress, if that makes sense. If we know that some of the things we do, like burning fossil fuels, are damaging the planet we inhabit, we should stop doing them.

Morning all.
Rava, hope the FIL is on the mend soon.
Having had barely any sleep all weekend and in practice for 8 hours yesterday and Saturday in the sun, I have a wee bit of sunstroke.
Going to take a half day today to try get some sleep.
