The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Rava - we were looking at a round at the hotel, next weekend, but the timings meant it was not feasible. We'll have a round when nip over to Ulster next year. I used to be quite a 'blade' (geddit) at thegolf when I was younger

Just to let you know Mrs. R's dad got out of hospital yesterday evening. Looking a lot better than he was but have to keep telling her that he is still a very sick man.

My mate Benji’s stag do. We leave Saturday morning, back Sunday night. It’s going to be rough going, a lot of drinking in a short space of time.
We can’t even go easy on Sunday because we’ll be in the boozer for the Dubs match.

Cari, yeah there's some sort of college/Uni here. There is some sort of rugby thing here too, but I don't know what.
Munsty, speaking of college sport, I saw a game on tv the other day from the Rose Bowl. What a spectacle. That stadium and it's location (with mountains etc surrounding it) is amazing.
As I do give you lots of opportunities with my stories don't I.

Well considering my close proximity to Liverpool, it might have been nice to at least be informed <foldsarms> Hmmmph!
Rev,
College football over there is nuts. Pulls in massive crowds.

Oh yeah, Richard Parks has summited Denali, so just has one more peak to do.
I don't know which game it was lads. It was a team in Red and a team in purple. Unreal stadium though.

College football is probably bigger than the NFL. Other college sports are also huge over there.

Makes sense too. Given that franchises are liable to up and leave (like the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers) it can alienate support. The uni will always be there.

That's amazing by Parks, really just incredible. Hope he can do the final one now.

Yes, some huge College football stadiums in the mid-west especially. I saw a news item where they added extra seats for an ice hockey match - I think between 105,00-110,000 people turned up!

Stag,it's partially because many sports don't clash.i.e. Baseball is strictly for the summer,Football runs from September to January. Only ice hockey and basketball run for a time similar to a rugby season. Also tickets are suprisingly affordable.

I don't know Stag. It's a little more than that. I don't know how to describe it but it's not just about the love of sport over there. Well not what we are accustomed to over here anyway.
It's fascinating to watch how the different sports vie for attention over there and how franchises are awarded. Australia is another fascinating place to watch in that sense. The Code wars.

Is it the novelty of something new or the sense of identity that the franchise allows?

Afternoon All
I've had a really good day today.
In other important news, I've sorted my tickets for Dublin next month. Cari's off to the quarter finals...with the Dubs. And maybe Tommy again too...

Fantastic news Cari. Another dream will be realised. You will get to wear that sky-blue jersey in a packed Croker. There is nothing like it for a big game. The colour, the crowds, the noise and the Dubs in full flight. You will love it.
As for meeting Tommy again... no way Im ringing him to miss another flight - again.

Secondly, they are not Munster colours. I'd like to go back to white shorts to be honest.

Mon mini Steffi. Beat that Squealapova.
I think she's too strong tho. Lisicki's 2nd serve is too weak.
But, who knows?

Sharapova breaks to go 5-4 up, which is a pretty decent show as she was 3-0 and faced a break point which Lisicki would have gone 4-0 up had she won.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Nice going Cari
Have you been exercising your hard won right to withdraw your labour today ?
Back of the 'tennis a fortnight every year' theme. Had to laugh at Sue Barker the other night, when she came out with something that epitomised it. They were discussing the Ladies quarter-finals and came out with the phrase along the lines of
"Well, we know a lot about these players but fans won't know that much about them"
The line-up had the following seeds 4,., 5, 8, 9, 24, 32 plus Lisicki & Paszek
FANS not knowing who the #4 seed was !!!
Can't imagine golf fans not knowing who the 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th, 24th, and 32nd ranked players in the world were. They may not know the player was ranked in a certain position, but they'd know who the player was
Incidentally, it's Martin Kaymer (GER), Steve Stricker (USA), Graeme McDowell (NIR), Jason Day (AUS), Ernie Els (RSA) & Justin Rose (ENG)

She is more focused now Pete. I think Lisicki has missed her chance there. But she will be around again. Not a bad showing for an unseeded player. That's how Steffi started. Im still in love with that woman. What's Agassi got, besides loadsamoney, good looks and class huh?
1 set to love. Her squealing really annoys me.

Think you could be right Gibbo, Sharapova looking well in control now.
Starting to rain now and Lisicki asking to go off. Sums up where the match is at right now, Sharapova with 3 break points for a 3-0 lead.
