***England vs Sri Lanka***1st of 5 ODI Live
Tuesday, June 28, The Oval
Start time 1300 (1200 GMT)
Team news as per cricinfo...
Andrew Strauss's ODI retirement means there will be no change more notable than the one at the top of the order, where Cook will be reunited with his opening partner from last year's tour of Bangladesh, Craig Kieswetter. Of the two rookies who opened the bowling in the Twenty20, Chris Woakes seems the likelier to make way for the returning James Anderson, which means Jade Dernbach should make his ODI debut on his home ground. Tim Bresnan's late inclusion in the squad could squeeze Samit Patel out of the starting XI, despite his five-wicket haul on this ground against South Africa in 2008.
England (probable) 1 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 2 Alastair Cook (capt), 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Ian Bell, 7 Samit Patel/Tim Bresnan, 8 Graeme Swann, 9 Stuart Broad, 10 James Anderson, 11 Jade Dernbach.
Sri Lanka had good news late on Monday when Tillakaratne Dilshan was passed fit after his broken thumb and he'll open with Sanath Jayasuriya, meaning Mahela Jayawardene reverts to his middle-order role. Angelo Mathews is still doubtful to bowl and Dilshan may not be risked with the ball, either.
Sri Lanka (probable) 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan (capt) 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Thilina Kandamby, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Thisara Perera, 8 Nuwan Kulasekera, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Suraj Randiv, 11 Lasith Malinga,
Pitch and conditions
London's dank June has given way to a mini-heatwave in the two days leading up to the start of the match, although that is all set to end with thunderstorms forecast for Monday evening. The wet weather should have cleared sufficiently to allow a prompt start at 1pm, but the clouds may still be lingering.

SL have won the toss and will bowl. Cook admits he'd have bowled first too as the pitch has a bit of a green tinge apparently. Dernbach in, more news to follow shortly...

Re: ***England vs Sri Lanka***1st of 5 ODI Live
Sri Lanka win the toss and elect to field first. Come on England! Here are the confirmed teams:
England 1 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 2 Alastair Cook (capt), 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Ian Bell, 7 Tim Bresnan, 8 Graeme Swann, 9 Stuart Broad, 10 James Anderson, 11 Jade Dernbach.
Sri Lanka 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan (capt) 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Thilina Kandamby, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Jeevan Mendis, 8 Nuwan Kulasekera, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Suraj Randiv, 11 Lasith Malinga,
Good chance of rain from 17:00 onwards meaning DuckWorth Lewis may come into play - bad for the side batting first of course.

full teams:
England 1 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 2 Alastair Cook (capt), 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Ian Bell, 7 Tim Bresnan, 8 Graeme Swann, 9 Stuart Broad, 10 James Anderson, 11 Jade Dernbach.

Pretty pleased with that, glad that Bell is in there instead of Bopara, and if they're expecting a seaming pitch then Bresnan ahead of Patel is the logical choice.

So is 250 a good score then? A combination of it being green and heavy cloud means Jimmy A and Bresnan might prosper along with Dernbach and Broad if they get their radar right. My prediction:
England 221 (all out)
SL 183 (all out)
England 221 (all out)
SL 183 (all out)

i think batting first is fine at the oval so small green tinge, oval is always very good for batting and turns later in the game

Re: ***England vs Sri Lanka***1st of 5 ODI Live
hey CF how's it going? Be interesting to see how Cook gets on. Bit worried by England's longish looking tail, but just noticed SL have Matthews at 6, which means their tail must be pretty long too. Also Randiv is playing, so they still can't decide on who their best spinner is...

Play suspended at Wimbledon because of rain, guessing it's not too long before rain at the Oval then.

If there is much play i cant see England winning to be honest. SL are a very good limited overs side.
It will be interesting to see if Broad does well here as he must be under some pressure.

Why was Malinga taken off straight after taking a wicket? Can he only bowl in short bursts now?

Only the 4 South African's and an Irishman playing for England today. Sri Lanka went for 11 Sri Lankan's.

Allow me to applaud you on such a well thought out and concise post, that is completely on topic and not in any way nonsensical.
Lord give me strength.

No danger of that happening guys, I'm a right miserable git.
Re: ***England vs Sri Lanka***1st of 5 ODI Live
Haha, in all seriousness guys, with any suspected wum attempts rather than getting into an insulting match with them, just make them look stupid through use of facts and articulate posts, I find they soon clear off when that happens.
Re: ***England vs Sri Lanka***1st of 5 ODI Live
Or just ignore them all together, they can't thrive off reaction when nobody is giving them attention.

The best thing about the rained off match today? Deciding to flick to the tennis and watch Lisicki power through. What a match
Re: ***England vs Sri Lanka***1st of 5 ODI Live
restart at 5pm, 32 overs a side, 7 mandatory powerplay overs + 3 each batting and bowling.

Glad we're getting some play Looking forward to Dernbach bowling later. First real test for him...
Also am I the only one who thought Patel should have played? Possibly instead of KP?

Re: ***England vs Sri Lanka***1st of 5 ODI Live
defo not instead of KP gregers, the balance would be all wrong. If he were to play it would have to be instead of one of the bowlers. Plus KP is in decent nick right now (even though you don't like him)

Kieswetter has hit a six over long-on - England on the attack as Trott follows up with a 4. Strange though it is I feel the shortened game has helped England.

yeah it was a great dive, and I agree it was probably out, but the benefit has to go to the batsman there I think no frame showing him short with the bails off
