NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
First topic message reminder :
www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby
Darcy is out for the next six weeks after the ankle injury he picked up in the HCup final. He will miss the Scotland, Connacht and first French game. He will be back around 6 weeks time but we can't be sure if he will be fit and/or ready for matches against Franch and England in Dublin.
One would assume his place will be taken by Wallace, with possibly mcFadden getting a run out or even Bowe/Earls.
Ferris also didn't train and continues with rehab.

Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
Toner is and always was useless at international level. He zero aggression and people just talk up his height.
Ryan who has also claimed the starting Musnter jersey at 6 should travel with POC, DOC, Cullen.

Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
Toner isn't even up to provencial standard. Bakkies Botha would have him for breakfast. Touhy was unfortunate with injury last season and McGlaughlins form just dipped at the end of the season a bit.
I'd imagine Ryan is the front runner to go but I can't understand why MOD is in the squad.
I'd take Mcglaughlin if Ferris isn't fit though.

Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
I wasn't referring to an international performance, it was in a Leinster jersey that I initially saw him and was impressed. Don't remember the exact game, think was in the HC, but his workrate was good that day and he was dominant in the lineout.
Now he seems a (more) Irish version of Nick Kennedy. He seems to have stalled. If aggression (or lack thereof) is the issue then that's a problem I suspect won't be resolved.

Seriously, Toner never had potential beyond being a tall guy. As stag said zero aggression and even less grunt. Not engine room material at this level. Not saying Ryan is amazing, but he better and can actually play 6 not just cover it.

You'd take who?
Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
Well I guess if there's any doubt over Ferris, then having Ryan in the squad is helpful as an alternative to SOB.
I've seen Touhy play extremely well against the Scottish sides in the past, in some rough conditions as well. He didn't strike me as the biggest, but yet carried some hard yards.

You know he's nearly 7 foot tall?
Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
I think Ryan is a cert because we will want a lock/backrow player and if it's between him, McLaughlin and Tuohy I'd choose Ryan jsut because he is currently in good form and is the most versatile of the 3. I do actually prefer the other 2 as players but don't think mcLaughlin is as good and Tuohy has been out for a while

He's talking about Tuohy, who is 6'5, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
Correct - I'm talking about Touhy. 6ft 5 and just short of 18st. Actually bigger than I thought (I had him pegged as once of those 5/6 type of players) - perhaps his mobility led me to believe he was smaller.
Anyway, I reckon he'll come more into the mix next season should his injuries abate.
Not a massive fan of Ryan as an international lock if I'm being honest. Good work rate and all that, but strikes me as short on international class at lock. Better than MOD though, and provides some utility cover.

I can see Tuohy and Ryan and possibly McLaughlin being the Irish locks post DOC and POC

Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
I thinkl Ryan will go as 4th lock and added insurance against Ferris being injured.
The only decision in the back row is the 5th player - Jennings or Leamy.
Please let it be Jennings

Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
Indeed - can't see a good argument for taking Leamy over Jennings.
Ryan, Ferris and SOB cover at 6, and Wallace and SOB can cover Heaslip at 8.
Jennings gives you good cover for Wallace at 7, and is proven to work well when paired with SOB at 6 and Heaslip at 8.

Experience is the only reason to take Leamy but its nowhere near a good enough reason.

Re: NEWS: Darcy out for next 6 weeks
Not too sure whether Jennings will make it - one high risk injury backrower (Ferris) is enough to bring. I seem to remember him getting injured on the last SH tour he was on as well.
Jennings has been on the bench for all of Leinster knock-out Heineken Cup games that he hasn't been injured for (Toulouse & Northampton) even though he played a few Magners games in between.
He has now injured again. There is a good chance he won't be fit enough.

He seems to get injured a lot (low profile stuff that he is out for a week or two).
Anyone know why he didn't start the Heineken Cup final or the game against Toulouse?
The main point is anyway, like D'Arcy, he is injured.

Match fitness decision. Schmidt made a huge selection mistake and put his hands up. Once Jennings came on in the 2nd half - Leinster played like Leinster and blew the Saints away. My main point being, that SOB and Heaslip are twice the players with him at 7. Both quiet in the 1st half. Both rampant in the 2nd. Front-5, Reddan & Sexton played their part. But it was no greater than Jennings' contribution.
Im sure even Deccie realises that now. If Jennings achieves match-fitness - he must travel. If Wally can't deal with Pocock - there is one man who can. Leamy, on his recent form - would be a waste of plane-space.
