You guys make me laugh with your Arsenal v Man Utd chat.

IMO

Man Utd are a better side than Arsenal
SAF is a better manager than Wenger
Arsenal have a team capable of winning major trophies

And if I had to pick my starting XI from the two squads as they currently stand (keeper is tough and it is close between De Gea and Szszszszssny

-------------------De Gea
Sagna---Ferdinand---Vidic---Evra
Nani-----Wiltshire----Fabregas---Nasri
----------Rooney----Van Persie

So 6 united, 5 arsenal.

I don't agree. Most Arsenal supporters I know constantly complained about Clichy giving the ball away too easily.

I think Coentrao can be a bit dodgy defensively, but the overall package, he is streets ahead of Clichy.

Now he has signed for Real, I expect his rating to grow too.

Tony V over Nani.
I don't expect him to get 1st team football at Real, Marcelo > Coentrao.

You might be right about Tony V over Nani, and Marcelo over Coentrao, but it is close and Marcelo is much better than Clichy too

Smarts, your an official idiot.

"His first 13 years he chucked money at the team like no tomorrow, how many signings did he make." - how does that explain G.Neville, P.Neville, Butt, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham. Yes smarts our backbone, structure of the team was just all because of chucking money around. Idiot Doh

FroMan, you got that wrong mate:
Lennon = £12m - humm, £12 to £14m
Coentrao = £16m - well I think £27m seems bang on to me
Benzema = £22m - went for £35m id say around £28m now

Whatever the valuations Nick, I wouldn't do the transfer myself.

Coentrao for £27m was ridiculous and Benzema couldn't hit a cows donkey with a banjo last season. £25m tops.

Nick you know nothing about your own team (well you support Wolves to apparently, how can you support 2 teams haha lol).

1987 Viv Anderson Arsenal 250.000
Brian McClair Celtic 850.000
Steve Bruce Norwich 825.000

1988
Jim Leighton Aberdeen 750.000
Lee Sharpe Torquay 180.000
Mal Donaghy Luton Town 650.000
Ralph Mine Bristol City 170.000
Mark Hughes Barcelona 1.800.000
Giuliano Mairoana Histon 30.000

1989
Mike Phelan Norwich 750.000
Gary Pallister Middlesbrough 2.300.000
Neill Web Nott. Forest 1.500.000
Brian Carey Corke 100.000
Danny Wallace Southampton 1.200.000
Paul Ince West Ham 1.500.000

The first 3 seasons in charge looked how much he chucked at the team. Mega Mega money in those days, nobody can compete with that! You talk nonsense.

Smarts, your a deluded prick.

Yes SAF spent money but did that come from having a Roman Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour?? NO your fudge packer. Manchester United have spent their own money, ee have the ability to do that because of how the club is run. Are you too think to understand that??

Nick,
Your such a knob jockey you can never face the truth. Did I say the money came from a sugar daddy? Umm no, did I say it wasn't their money? Erm no? (although I'm not sure if it was or not) I just said he spent a lot of money so not a level playing field. That amount of money was crazy cash in those days and nobody was competing with that. How the club is run? Last time I saw the accounts they were in over £400M of debt lol.

Like I said I'm not knocking Fergie for doing it, I'm just saying generally in football money = success and if you have a fat bundle of cash at your disposal as and when you want it makes your job a hell of a lot easier.

Man Utd earned the right to spend because they made thier OWN money, they had some very slick and clever people to market the club as a brand. Now it's not our fault that United have people who think ahead. How much money did SAF have at Aberdeen? Who broke the dominance of the Old Firm? Ferguson did it without money.

Smarts why is it that Arsenal who spend more on wages and transfers then other clubs yet win the same as them I.E Everton?

You can't just measure success by trophies.

The top 5 or 6 teams are a step ahead of everyone else, and can pretty much dominate the trophies these days. That doesn't leave a lot of trophies for the rest to win to be successful.

For me, Everton finishing 6th next year would be a success as it is better than we expect.

And Arsenal have finished above Everton for more seasons than I care to remember. The wages and transfer fees above what Everton pay is what has earnt them that.

The richer the club, wherever it comes from, the more successful they will be.

Like I said, did I knock it? I just pointed out he has spent more than any other team at that time. (Just like last time I pointed out he is the only one out of Wenger and Fergie to get pizza splatted in his face lol) Why you lot getting all defensive? lol

http://www.transferleague.co.uk/

Look at that Viva. Wage bill is higher than Everton yes but Arsenal have been a lot more successful than Everton in the Wenger era as well.

Afro,

I don't think Adam is a good signing for them at all. Waste of money and will get found out next season.

Smarts, in the past you have spouted on about Man United, Chelsea and City all in the same light which make it seem that way, if you wernt as thick I wouldnt make that assumption about you.

Our debt isnt an issue. just like Winning Trophies isnt an issue. Manchester United is a Global Brand, The Most Valuable SPORTING Club in the world.

In simpleton's terms smarts, that means Manchester United are the most valuable sporting club, this is out of Football, American Football, Baseball, Basketball etc. It includes all sports clubs from all sports.

Afro, the point is, like Viva said, we have made our own money through becoming a largely successful business.
Football clubs are companies, most as Clubs like Chelsea and City have owners who arent really bothered about figures, just wait till FFP Rule drops. Manchester United will be fine, maybe in an even better position then any other club in the whole of europe.

Arsenal have been a lot more successful than Everton - in my eyes Arsenil are only a little bit more successful then Everton.

Sorry but Trohies matter. Why do Barcelona get the recognition they get?? Because of the way they win their trophies.

FFP isn't going to make much difference, plenty of loopholes the big clubs will find. Do you really think Euefa have the balls to punish teams like Real Madrid? They need the top teams in their competitions as thats what brings the money in.

I take it you think Pep Guardiola is a better manager than Fergie? As he murked him men against boys both times they came up against each other in CL Final? Never mind the fact he inherited a top team, spent bundles of cash on top players, this is all irrelevant?

Smarts, honestly I watch pretty much all football, but last season I found Arsenil boring at times, great at times but I found myself unentertained more often. Liverpool Chelsea and City bore me too, but ill still watch as its football.

Guardiola is a good manager, the test of time will prove how good. He hasnt done what SAF has done. Currently his Barca team are better then SAF Man United team.

If there was a liverpool fan here id take the mick out of him more then you, sorry Smarts but Arsenil are becoming a the next Liverpool in terms of being a joke, so I feel I have to take the mick. + your deluded and you need education.

Never thought id see the day when Spurs fans are less deluded then Arsenal but I have.

Also, when are you coming on Blops, I want to murk you or we can get a team of Andy, Viva me and you, murk some mandem 606 style

Smarts we have no probelm saying Pep > Saf yeah he has won more trophies lately and he is a top class manager. But I still have SAF over Pep, no shame in getting murked by the greatest team of all time, we made the Final and lost to a fantastic team, unlike others who use ref or red cards as excuse we stand and applaud Barca because not many teams can do that to us espeically Barca Lite.

I love it how all our rivals go to Madrid and Barca for help when they can't compare thier own team with the Mighty Man Utd  It's ok you can keep your tippy tappy Football that goes no where and we'll keep winning titles.

Wins >> Performance ask anybody but Man Utd can do both maybe not last season but seasons before we have.

You guys think Pep > SAF? lol
I don't personally agree with that but that is the logic you were using so atleast it is consistent lol.

I didn't go to Madrid/Barca for help lol Neither was I comparing Arsenal with Utd as I already pointed out there is no level playing field. It is like you building a house with a million pound and me building a house with a thousand pound then you saying to me well your house is better. I think it is a bit obvious your house would be better but if my house can still compare with your house or compete with your house then I think I have done an excellent job.(hope you like the analogy).

When have I said Arsenal have money? They have a limited budget and also they are run as a business and the board do not allow Wenger to go spend the cash they do have. I have stuck by this since I have known you.

Can't get on blops, to busy after work and when I do get on ps3 it's just for the odd game on Fifa. Not played it for months so I'm probably rubbish now.

Ok Arsenal are competitng with Man Utd, so I guess they have won titles in past few years, made a champions leauge final or won it in the last couple of seasons, title challenges that last till May, do well in cup domestic competitions, bought some good players ooooops I've mistaken you with Chelsea because as far as I know you ain't competing with us you liar. Only thing that you have is a good stadium but you've probably not been there so don't disgrace us and embrass yourself by saying you are able to compete with us, we fight for all titles and the proof is there, leauge winners, cup finalists and winners. I love you Smarts but sometimes I wanna punch you. Lol

Morning all.

Nad - the 3 UK and 3 U21s can be the same players, so your example Rodwell counts for both.

Next week is the preliminary round, with only four teams playing, which doesn't include Villa. Your first game will be between weeks 4 and 5.

And yes, from first glance, you have 3 of each

Smarts, there was some other article on Goal.com saying that Ricky Alvarez went to Inter could pave the way for Man United to sign Sneijder.

http://www.thesportscampus.com/2011070714396/transfer-news/alvarez-inter-arrival-could-clear-the-way-for-sneijders-united-move

Ohhh I do hope so. Think Sneijder will suit us down to a T.

Also, apparently: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/07/07/2564300/cesc-fabregas-tells-team-mates-he-will-never-play-for

I still can't see where Sneijder fits into the same team as Rooney?

I don't read Ian Wrights drivel, great striker but I prefer him when he keeps his mouth shut lol.
It does look like Cesc will be leaving this summer but I think Barca will coff up closer to £40M now and if Nasri goes for £25M thats not bad at all £65M for those 2 players.
Hopefully Gervinho will sign today, wonder who could be the replacements for Cesc & Nasri?

Whats the problem Randy? Was there a deadline where you had to accept them by or something?

Andy - it's up to Viva really. He is normally quite strict on deadlines.

Yes of course Nick, thanks for that explanation I'm not sure how I didn't realise it earlier :S

There was me thinking Rooneys best postion is a support striker and that Sneijders best position is attacking midfielder/support striker. If I recall correctly Man Utd played 4-4-2 most of last season? If you want the best out of Sneijder he needs to be playing in the position you see Rooney in. Also that midfield will get killed as only Fletcher will be helping out in the middle.

I can see what Smarts is saying though Nick.

Snjieder may be a midfielder and Rooney a striker, but they do tend to operate in the same areas of the pitch.

However, I don't think it would be a problem. There are many examples of teams having an attacking midfielder and a support striker in the same side though surely?

Smarts - isn't Ashley Young favourite position as a support striker too.

Perhaps SAF is planning a shock tactic

Is Roony not capable of operating upfront? In a strikers role? 2 seasons ago where was Rooney playing??
Do you understand Man United play with adaptability??

Going on what you two say (smarts and afro) there is no point in having more then one player who can play/operate in the same role.
