A B&I year?
Golf: Rory won the US Open and there's a couple of Englishmen leading the World rankings.
Tennis: Federer's out and Murray has every chance of winning a GS for the first time in seventy years.
And four great B&I chances in the RWC,
I take my references from Germany and Spain in their Wimbledon successes and their footy triumphs directly afterwards.

Rory blew the Masters, and then blew away everyone at the US Open. Hoping he can win THE OPEN too

Nice to see that AM is British again. Let's hope he's not Scottish again in a few hours.

He's always Scottish to me
I really like the guy. Didn't like Henman, Murray has the Celtic passion.

Wouldn't say that. 1 or 2 outside chances at best.

Good old Murray (the Brit) . If he doesn't win it I'd like to see Tsonga triumph. Great player to watch.

Same here.
As for the World Cup, I'd honestly like the All Blacks to win it. They've been the pre-eminent rugby side / nation for so long and they've played some of the best rugby I've seen recently.

First Ashes away series win in something like 24 years? Wales can jump in on that one as well, as it is the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Is he really that old, fair play to be competing still after at least 70 yearsPortnoy wrote:Tennis: Federer's out and Murray has every chance of winning a GS for the first time in seventy years.
Being serious I don't think it is going to be a NH win at the world cup this year, but full marks for positivity.

The difference is at Ulster they are are only 3 in a squad of 38 whereas for the English middle order it is find the Englishman.....
Mind you I am pleased you consider Ulster worthy as putting up there with the winning contributions to British and Irish sport
Even I think that is a little premature but thanks anyway

I'll give you a hint for future games. If he's wearing an England (and Wales) shirt, he's probably English (or Welsh).

Update:
Murray failed at Wmbdn but Darren Clarke surprisingly succeeded with incredible fortitude on the Open.
Since then McLaren have been have been pushing forward in F1 and the 'English' cricket team have been doing well.

That would be the 'England' test squad with 4 SA born players and 1 Irish born player in it
That would be the F1 tournament to be won by a country mile by an Austrian based company with a German driver
As for Darren Clark - one of ours I think !

I really wouldn't rate the ashes as a big win, It's between England and Austrailia so each time there is about a 50% chance of winning it, it's hardly a competition.
Ireland doesn't make a big deal and think we're the best in the world when we win the The Cormac McAnallen Cup in the International Rules Series.
It's similar to the Ashes as in its always Australia v one country, but at least if we win the Cormac McAnallen Cup it means we're the best in the world, winning the ashes doesn't do that.

Thanks for that. It's just about the oldest sporting rivalry in the world. If you aren't interested, fine, but don't belittle it. It's exceptionally important to English and Australian cricket fans. You just sound like you want to bemoan anything English.

Re: A B&I year?
well put it this way, its a competation between just 2 teams,
yet if England win it's big news and players get MBE's, OBE's whatever
it's not like they won the cricket world cup, is it? they beat one team, just one team.
The Ashes isn't even the high point of Test cricket. It fails to capture the imagination of anyone outside England or Australia.
you say it's about the oldest sporting rivalry in the world, (1882), to bring it to a rugby context the Calcutta Cup (1879) is older and you only have to beat one team to win it, yet players don't get MBE's etc for winning it?
I'm sure winning the Ashes is important to England, but don't think that anyone else in the UK or Ireland really cares. Therefore it's an achievement but not one to boast about to anyone else apart from Austrailians, and even then they win it most of the time and don't think to much of it.

Grow your own world-class rivalries
Dublin v Meath
Cork v Kerry
Kilkenny v Waterford
Galway v Mayo
Tyrone v Armagh
Limerick v Clare
Tipperary v Kilkenny
Sporting events that draw higher attendances each year than rugby union and cricket, only surpassed by RL (in Aus), soccer, AFL and NFL.
Can in dismiss others now?

I don't care if no ones else has any interest in it. That's the point, if it doesn't interest you ignore, just don't belittle it as you come across as petulant. Would you belittle the bledisloe cup to a Kiwi? Why is it so important to you that England shouldn't celebrate it's rivalries?

Go into an Irish bar anywhere in the world on either of the all Ireland final days and you’ll see who cares.
The boat race? Either I’ve never heard of it or my cockney rhyming slang needs updating.
