surrey vs somerset & glamorgan twenty/20
Zafar Ansari returns to feature in a fourteen man Surrey Lions squad to face both Somerset and the Glamorgan Dragons in the Friends Life t20.
The young all rounder is the only addition to the squad that otherwise features the same thirteen that were selected for the FLt20 tie against Kent last Sunday.
The full Surrey Lions squad to face Somerset at the Kia Oval on June 30th and the Glamorgan Dragons at the SWALEC Stadium on July 1st is:
Rory Hamilton-Brown (Captain)
Steven Davies (Wicket Keeper)
Jason Roy
Zander De Bruyn
Tom Maynard
Matthew Spriegel
Gary Wilson
Chris Schofield
Gareth Batty
Yasir Arafat
Zafar Ansari
Tim Linley
Stuart Meaker
Dirk Nannes
who will miss out this time?

Re: surrey vs somerset & glamorgan twenty/20
My feeling is that Spriegel and Schofield will miss out. Plus either Meaker or the Viscount. The latter is overdue a chance in the competition. Maybe Meaker will be tried in the first match and if he's not firing on all cylinders The Viscount will come into play.
Somerset's big hitters will be itching to get stuck in after having had so many wash outs - so it will call for canny bowling!
Ansari is bound to be in the team.

I expect Linley and Ansari to come in for Meaker and Schofield and maybe Spriegel for Wilson aswell

Re: surrey vs somerset & glamorgan twenty/20
According to a later article on the club website, Schofield is playing for the seconds tomorrow in a one dayer at Radlett CC against MCC Young Cricketers starting at 12 noon.
Now this might just mean he's indispensable to all our teams in the one day format! However, I think it's a bit more likely he'll miss out tomorrow night.
I also think Zafar the gaffer will replace Schofield with Viscount coming in for Meaker. Although Wilson has been badly out of form for a while, he did nothing wrong when selected on Sunday (not his fault he didn't get a bat) and so will probably edge Spriegel out again.

That sounds right to me, guildford, I actually hope that is the team except I would still prefer Spriegel to Wilson but that's a bit like saying I'd prefer to get punched in the face once rather than twice...

Sorry, Carrot. It's not at all clear. It was the closest smiley I could find to fit your wonderful comment - ''I would still prefer Spriegel to Wilson but that's a bit like saying I'd prefer to get punched in the face once rather than twice...''

Re: surrey vs somerset & glamorgan twenty/20
So we have reached crunch time in the T20!!!
So far I believe we have underachieved and these two games will determine our progress or lack off in this tournament. Two wins I believe we will qualify, Two defeats and we are definately out. One win leaves us hanging in the balance with games running out.
Unfortunately I am working for the next few nights missing both these games and the big football game at the Cottage later on today.
If I come home and find out Schofield has played and performed like he did at Beckenham you may not hear from me for a while due to the likelyhood of my computer exiting my upstairs window at a rate of knots.
I obviously hoping for a win as we need it desperately but as a man who likes the odd sporting flutter my betting brain tells me Somerset. But one good 20 minutes by one player can win a T20 game on its own so you never know surely one of our top three are due as well.
C'mon boy's I'm starting to fall back into depressed mode.
H-B, Davies, Roy, De Bruyn, Maynard, Spriegal, Batty, Ansari, Arafat, Nannes, Linely
Thats my choice though I still think we have to many bowlers in that line up. There are eight possible bowlers there.

its going pretty well...
...for Somerset.
Although Arafat has just bowled Tresco, which is a massive wicket.

the gaffer gets his first T20 wicket, well done to him.
He's got good economy this match too.

Meant to say - evening chaps.
JimBob - Only got one out of three of the players missing out which is pretty pathetic! Not aware that was a Meatloaf song
And now a wicket for Meaker.
Enter Pollard - gulp again ....

Re: surrey vs somerset & glamorgan twenty/20
Surrey 'fight back' from the last few overs. Looks like a chase of 170.
Still about 20 runs too many (the 17 extras may prove costly) for our misfiring and short batting line-up.
Hope I'm proved wrong though.

Tight bowling, good fielding and handy wickets in the closing overs stop Somerset's momentum.

Tibor - fear you are spot on about the extras.
According to Churchy - in the first over, Davies came up to the stumps and The Brain bowled a bouncer which sailed over his head and went for four byes. Madness!

Re: surrey vs somerset & glamorgan twenty/20
Definitely in with a chance, especially as it looked like they would get 200+. We certainly have the talent to chase down 170 but based on our previous form it doesn't seem likely. All pretty much depends on the top 3.
Gaffer with fantastic figures once again, pleased for Meaker to get a couple and Nannes apart from 1 over was good too. Arafat just ships too many runs in most games unfortunately.

Spriegel and now The Brain gone. 73 - 6 in the thirteenth. Starting to look embarrassing ....
Enter Zafar the gaffer who gets off the mark with a couple.
Once the early wickets go - and they go too quickly - we seem to lose all momentum. JimBob's views on The Brain are clear whilst Spriegel isn't the man we need at number six ....

this competition is a write-off for Surrey now, if it wasn't already before this match. - no reason not to experiment with new personnel.
