Dai Young - Thanks for that Dave- better Club?
As a Blues supporter I genuinely wish Dai Young well in his new career and have no doubt we'll see him back in Wales in some capacity in the next decade - I also think its the right move for the Blues as we are definitely in need of a shake up - I was though just intrigued by this comment he made when reading planet rugby this afternoon
"It was a hard decision to leave Cardiff but it was the right decision, one made to go to a better team and a better club,"
Not sure how he quantifies that at the moment on either front - yes Wasps are HC double champions - but that was when Dallaglio and Howley were playing - not so sure its the case anymore despite the Blues awful season last year and better club? - hmmm either things are in terminal decline at Cardiff and no one is fully aware of the picture or he's just buttering up the fans before he gets accross the bridge - anyhows despite these ill chosen comments in my opinion - good luck Dai.

Wow that is misguided being as he's been the Blues coach forever.

"to go to a better team....."
better than the team you built for the last 9 years Dai? That surely says something about your own coaching ability rather than anything else.

Both clubs had bad seasons last year but Wasps have at least made some signings for next season and also have some great young prospects who will get first team action next season.
I'm a Wasps supporter and obviously biased & I guess I would be miffed if a coach resigned & then said those comments about my team.
However, they were clearly intended for Wasps ears!
Good luck to the Blues next season

Yes a bit below the belt isnt it, especially since he's had more than enough resources to make a much better fist of it at Cardiff.
I wonder what a decent coach would of done with the players Dai has had.

Some result that was, given the weather too.

Yep, Rush was outstanding in that game.
Away from home, in a semi final, in the rain, against a team that was used to playing a tight game - great result in the end

Very good point. I was bemused by Dai's comments and also a little disappointed. Peter Thomas stuck by Dai when everyone else was calling for his head (including myself at one point) so that was rubbing salt into PT's wound. He didnt really need to say that IMO. I still wish Dai well at Wasps. I think he will do a good job.

I think Dai Young has taken Blues as far as he can take them. The time had come for some new blood in the coaching and playing squad. He knew he was getting out at the right time.
They still have some really good players; I'm sort of interested to see how they do next year. Could crumble or rebound very strongly. Hardest side to call in my opinion.

Agreed, absolutely no need for that addition to his parting speech. If he wanted to express his joy he shouldn't have used such a barbed term, intentionally or not. Calling it a new or more exciting challenge would have been more graceful and civilised.
I think a change is due anyway. Nine years and one major trophy does not impress me, despite my opposition to the increasing football fan attitude of singling out the coach. Let's just hope Young's successor is competent enough to build and help the team progress further.

man is absolulty clueless i predict he will get wasps relegated or close to it and be out of ajob within 18months as he wont have the luxury of time with wasps. He had years with cardiff/blues and he won a second grade european competition. Dai im not a cardiff fan but there better of without you.

Re: Dai Young - Thanks for that Dave- better Club?
I agree with the comment about Dai taking the club as far as he can take it. EDF(when it was slightly decent) and the Amlin(Toulon down South and even Wasps at Adams Park) - no mean feats. Not to mention beating the likes of Toulouse in the European competiton. Blues have dished out some absolute thrashings to teams whilst Dai was at the helm and perhaps they could have done with this shake-up a year earlier; Blues may have then had a better this season.
Not forgetting they also need decent cover for Gethin Jenkins, a hooker and tighthead that can scrummage and a better replace for Ben Blair. Not at all impressed by Czekaj and Fish.

After 9 years of under achievement it's amazing he rewards Cardiff's loyalty with a comment like that. The amount of times they could , and should of fired him for his teams píss poor efforts. He should thank his lucky stars he had such a cushy little number for so long! If most normal people get such poor results in their jobs their kicked out on their ear.

Dai means the Wasps pay more money for average performances!

Are you sure about that or just guessing?
Interesting that Gats gets criticised but not Tito in support of Youngs move to Wasps............

Re: Dai Young - Thanks for that Dave- better Club?
Basically what Stag said.
His comments were just a sound bite, although very ill judged imo. My other take is that a head coach who had a decent back line at the Blues, and then went and signed Dan Parks, is lacking a bit when it comes to appreciating the overall abilities of his squad.
Wasps lacked leaders on the pitch last season and I hope Tom Rees can stay fit. He will make a big difference. Whether Dai Young will do likewise remains to be seen, but I hope he gets stuck into the job.
