players who only need one name
First topic message reminder :
they say you've made it if people only need to use one of your names to identify you. what rugby players only need one name?
i'll start.
Shane (those of you with long memories-ie all of you- can make the obvious joke if you want)
who else only needs one name?

It doesnt - no - but as we are discussing players that only need one name - it precludes Jeffrey on the basis that no-one in the wider world would know who you were talking about if you referred to him as JJ - they would think you were referring to his (far) more famous namesake.

ML, not to be a complete and utter pedant about it, but here's the OP:
John Jeffrey is and was referred to as 'JJ', which you as much as admit yourself. JJ Williams also enjoyed this soubriquet. By the OP's definition, both players made it - seemples really.

Precisely. "JJ" doesnt identify Jeffrey! No-one would know who you were talking about!

Lomu
Campese
Wilkinson
I think these are the names that would be recognised outside of the sport to non-rugby heads. Also Henson and Cipriani if you are including the Heat readers of the world.
But the above are some of the few that would stand up to;
Federer
Woods
Bolt
Manning
Brady
ARod
Jeter
Keano
Messi
Duff
Kobe
Shaq
LeBron
Shefflin
Gooch
