Holyfield vs Tyson 1991 who wins????
Think Tyson was sharper in 1991.......Holyfield wasn't as big and as comfortable in 91.....
Holy had more confidence but if a sharper Tyson had success early that would be counteracted.....
It's a tough one but had Desiree not arrived on the scene...
Think Tyson being sharper wins although I wouldn't bet the house on it..
Sadly we'll never know..the one that got away.

Holyfield simply because I've seen him beat Tyson twice. Any other result requires too much faith for me.

Agree with you about the attractions of the fight, but with the benefit of hindsight, would always want to pick the Holyfield of the 90s against any version of Tyson. In 1991, the year that you stipulate, Tyson was having enormous problems with Ruddock, if I remember rightly, a one-dimensional fighter by comparison. Holyfield's chin, his refusal to be intimidated, his will to win and his own not inconsiderable offensive arsenal (the phrase 'triple jab' springs to mind, for some reason!) would have made a taxing night's work for any version of Tyson. In my opinion, by 1991, it would have been altogether too much for Mike. Not unlike their first meeting, Holyfield TKO 11 for me.

Could be right.....Think three years incarceration did hurt Mike an awful lot......
Remains to be said that the average Bert Cooper nearly stopped Holy around that time..So Holy's chin could be dented...
It's a tough one because...Tyson would've been the challenger and maybe more motivated than he was defending against a finished Holy...
I can't argue ...that there is a fair chance of Holy winning....
Marciano beat Charles twice Scotty...has to be said a few years earlier it could've been different..
That's what we have got here...
Thanks for the opinions.

Very interesting one.
I was about 11 at the time but even at that age me and my friends were looking forward to it
We knew alot less about Holy at the time, as far as I was aware at the time he hadn't proven himself the warrior we all now know, I first saw the warrior in the Bowe fights
I'd have to say a sharper younger Tyson either does him early or wins across the distance, think at the time Holy was a little green and didn't have the ring smarts or experience to deal with an animal like Tyson.
Would have been a great fight

Has to be said before Douglas..Holy struggled with Dokes and Stewart to a certain extent...
In essence Tyson was a confidence fighter and If Holy starts quick he could get on top....
All about the opening rounds for me.

I'd say Tyson, they were definitely going to trade early on and Tyson had way more power at that stage, KO or TKO for Tyson round 3/4/5.

Get the violins out for Tyson.
He was found out by Buster Douglas, end of.
Fighting binmen every 4 weeks for greedy promoters is hardly a chizzle to carve your legacy in stone.
Got found out by every decent heavy. And ruined his rep by getting beat by Williams and McBride.

I get the feeling the the pre-prison Tyson was slighlty less reliant on intimidation as he was that little bit sharper. I gthink it would have been a close fight but I'd still give Commander Vander the edge to see out a points victory.

Have to go for Holyfield. Had everything needed to beat Tyson. Good chin, good jab and the self belief and durability to deal with anything Tyson threw at him.
People say Tyson was past it when he fought Holy but Holy was shot to bits and Tyson was on a bit of a comeback. Nobody expected Evander to win. 1991 version deals with him just as well.
Pretty sad that im calling 1996 version of holy shot to pieces and here 15 years later hes still fighting.

Think Tyson was complacent against Buster and I believe he turns Buster over in a rematch..
Holy lacked Buster's great jab and wasn't as big as he was in 94.. where he bullied Tyson a bit....
A fight in 91 compared to 94 is different..

Cheers Paper......IF Cooper nearly stopped him...Who knows what happens if the count isn't imposed (He was on queer street) one could say he didn't have the ability to withstand everything..

Sure. As you say I wouldnt bet the house on it but would favour Holy.
Could I see Tyson get him out of there? Yeah I could. Was watching a tyson documentary last night and sometimes forget how awesome he was. Think i'd go 65-35 for Holyfield. tyson either overwhelms him in the first half or goes on to be out boxed and possibly stopped late. More question marks over Tyson than holy for me. Would have been epic though.

I'd have bet money on Holy.
As everyone has said - Evander always had the tools to beat Tyson - good jab, good chin, good dig, good lateral movement.
Tyson had that star quality and undefeated factor against his name and would have started as favourite - but that wouldn't guarantee him the win.

Re: Holyfield vs Tyson 1991 who wins????
I'd have to back Holfield. He was durable and physically strong - able to match Bowe who was a bigger brute than Tyson. He had a good jab and the kind of mentality that wouldn't be intimidated by Tyson, and that wouldn't back down or give up against him. The jab and the mental toughness were what buster defeated Tyson with in Tokyo. Tyson of '91 may rock or deck holy early, but I believe holy was hard enough to get up, keep fighting and grind Tyson down for a late stoppage. Tyson was quality but I don't buy into the pre-prison version being an unstoppable machine. With the right tactics and mindset he could be out boxed and even stopped. The key was to be mentally tough, disciplined, work behind a good jab and catch him coming in with straight rights and uppercuts. Buster did it, and for my money holyfield, bowe & Lewis were all capable too.

Re: Holyfield vs Tyson 1991 who wins????
Gotta go for Holy - there's a simple formula at work here - if you're a good boxer, in shape and stand up to Tyson, he crumbles...
Holy ticks all three boxes with ease and no version of Tyson hears the final bell against him IMHO

Definitely Holyfield for me.
I think he would mentally break Tyson during the latter rounds and stop him.
Both fighters were past their best when they first fought but many use this more for an excuse for Tyson losing but i think the outcome would have been similar.

If Holyfield can weather the storm in the early rounds again then he stops Tyson late for me.
