Brain Mujati's Rugby Blog
I don't want to be too gushing, but it's brilliant. Candid and funny, genuine. He's quite the raconteur. And he speaks honestly about the controversy surrounding his debut for the Boks.
Quite a story; Mujati wins his first cap for the Boks against Wales. He's controversially picked ahead of in-form (white) tighthead BJ Botha. The usual allegations of quotas etc. are thrown around. The very same week, news breaks from his homeland of Zimbabwe. Turns out his Dad (who he had been estranged from for years) is one of the beneficiaries of Robert Mugabes crusade against White Farmers. A white family was brutally evicted from their land to allow Mujati Snr. to move in. He's picked against Wales. He has a shocker. The critics in the South African sports media go into overdrive. The story about his dad and the farm breaks worldwide.
Talk about a perfect storm of adversity. So in his blog, he gives his side;

I just found this fascinating to be honest. Brutally honest- I have a lot of admiration for the man putting it out there in the public domain and being so open about his own failings.
He wasn't a good player then, but now; he's a great player. It's interesting to read about the tough life experiences that made him that top player- and made him a man.

Good read.
I remember seeing an interview with him a while back. He's so open and honest about everything. Quite refreshing.
