The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Micky -
Did you see Gibbo's joke from the other thread...it was like yours...
Line - the first Omen film is very disturbing. I remember watching that on telly when I was a kid as well!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Have you heard the one about the blonde going into a Darwin shoe store late one afternoon...looking for a nice pair of crocodile boots?
The burly owner says to her. "Sorry love, we're out of your size...but come back another time perhaps and we may have what you're looking for in stock."
"Bugg-er that", she says to herself..."I'll get me own" and hops into her pink Prius 4WD and starts the long drive down the highway to the swamp. By this time it's getting late...and there is a fair amount of activity in the swamp....crocs fighting over barramundi, etc.
A little later, the shop owner happens to be passing along the same stretch of road by the swamp and sees the blonde up to her waist - skillfully slitting a monster croc's throat and dragging it single-handedly to the banks. Not only that...he sees 6 or 7 others lying belly up on the muddy shore. He can't believe what he's seeing and decides to offer the blonde some help.
"Not having much luck are you...?"
"Blidy oath...none of these baastards are my shoe size either!"

Amazing. I would have used epic, but that pesky Stag stole it.
With regards to Micheal Owen, he was lucky that his type of style suited Wales in 2005. The only positive I've seen his defenders on that site (bad choice of words there maybe) use is he had lovely hands. So basically none of the basic skills needed for an 8. Lovely hands my foot. He was one of the reasons Richard (I assume his name will be filtered) Best was correct in saying that the 2005 Welsh team's foundations were built on sand.
The guy who said that about me and my region is obviously connected to him in some way, or is him. The way he posts gives it away.

The Shining's a great film but the book might just be better. It's the only Stephen King book I've read but I don't know which one to choose next.

Agree with you about Owen. Hands isn't enough of a skill for a number 8. I see them as the forward who links the forwards to the backs with vision, ball carrying ability, ball rentention and handling ability.

Also, the Exorcist is a great film. Scary, but not terrifying. I don't know if I've seen a film that's terrified me.

I watched the Exorcist when I was about 14 on Halloween night in my garage with a few mates, never laughed so hard in my life, I just can't get scared by movies, cause that's all they are, movies.
However, when I was about 6 I watch Aracnaphoiba and that frightened the bollix out of me

Not a fan of horror movies - just not a fan. I know that movies don't need to be deep meaningful well thought out and people sometimes like a good scare.
But a slapstick comedy or overly budgeted action movie give me my fix too.

You'll be fine Hughie, just remember never to visit Australia or Auckland
(the spiders in Arachnaphobia were Avondale spiders, from Auckland, though they come from Australia originally)

I don't like spiders. Actually, that's not true, I think they're really cool, but I can't stand house spiders. I've seen people supposedly being treated for arachnophobia by having a tarantula put on their hand. That wouldn't scare me at all, because a) tarantulas are handsome, and b) you don't see tarantulas out of the corner of your eye scuttling along the floor.

Hello all, long time no chat!
Hope Swanny's bash went well for all. I'd say it was a cracking knees up.
The Dam was amazing. Would have been better if i had a way of charging my phone though, ended up not meeting either Asbo or GIbbo because my phone was dead. Everytime i left the hotel room i intended on buying one, but Amsterdam is the type of place where you can get lost for a few hours. I think the "amnesia haze" might have had something to do with that!!

That's great news. The English Parliament, has a chance to vote and turn its' back on Murdoch tomorrow - with regards to the BSKYB takeover.
I sincerely hope they take that opportunity and lay down a future marker, for multinational oligarchs like him.
Good man Mick. You took the right attitude with the Dam. That's how to do it. No fixed, touristy, method. Wander round, get lost and find some interesting places to stay and while away a few hours. All at your own pace. That defines it.
Raging I missed you, but delighted ye both had a great time.

Yeah Gibbo, we did a few touristy things like going to Madame Tusauads (a must after a shmoke!) and the zoo but in general it was just a case of wandering about and taking it all in! Savage place.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Just catching up on the latest developments in the UK phone hacking scandal; the Tories, or at least the Tory Prime Minister, are now opposed to the BSkyB takeover bid! They couldn't wait too wave it through until the phone-hacking scandal took off.
Remember, Irish regs; BSkyB may be a British company headquartered in London but it provides Sky television in the Republic of Ireland as well. What happens here affects Irish Pay TV customers just as much as UK customers.
All three main party leaders over in England have asked Murdoch to withdraw his bid. It will be scrutinised, heavily, by the Competition Commission before it goes anywhere. And Parliament may well yet act to derail the whole thing.
Another one in the eye for the Murdoch Empire

That is the largest, controlling stake. James Murdoch is the Chairman of the company, or was, I can't recall. Anyway when he was appointed he had to face calls of nepotism and scrutiny from the shareholders. It's a brake on their power. They takeover the company entirely; different ballgame.

It's a worrying thought that one company control's so much of the news that people see. Given that they're just a company trying to make as much money as possible and they have vested interests in other businesses.
This is where some form of socialism looks like a better prospect...

And secondly, did you all see how the Welsh squad got motivated today - nothing like making the team feel good!

Josiah,
Interesting comment. The Illuminati's tentacles of power, have spread and swept all before them, throughout History. And are still going strong.
However, they are empowered by those seeking even a modicum of control. Like so many politicos did via Murdoch. So... hypocrisy reigns now.
It's all a game. And there is no 2nd-half comeback folks. The game is rigged.
It will be a nice mini-victory, if he doesn't get the total control he wanted.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
But Mickado in discouraging private enterprise, the government ends up taking control of the media. This is what happened in pretty much all socialist countries even amidst the good things.
But in a laissez-faire capitalist society, huge media cartels become problematic and threaten that delicate balance like NewsCorp. Two things; they have all but 'declared war' on the BBC because they provide news for free on the internet. An informed electorate leads to a strong democracy so it's very important people have access to real news (not tabloid tittle-tattle) and aren't priced out of knowing what's going on in the world. And they control a disproportionately large amount of the media; they set the agenda and shape public opinion. They are a serious threat to democracy as shown by the way UK politicians (until a few weeks ago) walked on eggshells around them.
For instance, they didn't like Gordon Brown as PM. So they set their attack dogs on him.
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2011/07/11/uk-newscorp-brown-hacking-idUKTRE76A3ZF20110711
A delicate balance. I think society is best served by a plurality of owners of media. Independent viewpoints and regulation on what methods they can use. In the wake of the scandal, the folly of allowing one media cartel to dominate has become clear.

I have already talked to him quite a lot over the phone (how cool is that having John Hartsons Mobile in your contact list!) over the last few days - he is a really nice guy.
He's been a real trooper for us on twitter as well.
And we may have some other news off the back of it - I cant say just yet though but it could be the single biggest thing to happen to 606v2 so far!
