The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I couldn't do a rugby marathon like that. Maybe for the World Cup. I can never watch 3 Six Nations games in a row.

How long are you going to be in Dublin, Cari?

seriously Stag can you not? I love super saturdays in the 6 Nations when there are three matches on.
Watched 5 matches in one day once and that was a bit much though I will admit.
As - ah sorry about that, I don't even really know how to put something up as a spoiler as I've never had to before. Kiwi or Hobo will know most probs

Five days Lucky - coming back on the afternoon of the fifth day.
Just put a thread up about the Russians coming to the Liberty this summer. I think that'll be a really interesting fixture.

That's a good length of stay, Cari. Anything shorter than that and you might feel like you were rushing to fit everything in. I imagine, anyway.

Well I didn't do too badly last time I went for four days. of course during the summer, the days will seem longer anyway, and the weather will be nicer - unlike the beginning of January

I can't Dreamer. I just get a bit rugbyed out. And maybe it might have something to do with how I feel about 6 Nations.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I like Super Saturdays during the Six Nations, it's just really exciting for me, but if you're not really into the tournament then it can be quite dull.

Hope you've taken out a mortgage Cari, Dublin isn't cheap.

Dublin must be cheaper now due to the VAT cut? Has anyone noticed any difference? What will a set you back now?

Cari, really I think its just that 5-6 hours of anything can be taxing.
I love the Heineken Cup but I'd struggle to keep interested beyond 2 matches. I often watch 2 games I love it. But the third one is where I get distracted. I can do it but not with same fervour

nottins - Don't exaggerate a mortgage isn't necessary. I have been before. It depends where you stay and what you do.

I didn't find Dublin that expensive last time I was there. I got hotel, went out for a meal, used the Luas and Dart, went out for drinks etc.

I'm sure a pint of Guinness was £5 when I was there in 2003.

Heard on 2fm yesterday that Dublin has gone from the most expensive city in Europe during the Celtic tiger to the 15th or something now so it can't be that bad now.

Staggy - that's true. When I went in January I stayed at a hotel, went to the rugby, used public transport, had meals out and it wasn't bank breaking at all. The company was priceless though
Rodders - if people are willing to search, there are actually loads of special offers available to visitors too which helps. On the Visit Dublin website for example, they've got a guide to things people can do for free in the city.

Seeing as we're talking about shopping around, anyone know any good hotels in London? Might be heading there around October time and have a few in mind but any knowledge of good ones would be appreciated. The Novotel and Premier Inn in Greenwich were the ones I had in mind.

nottins - why would I be concerned over the price of Guinness? I'm teetotal. Also, when I was there earlier this year, I bought a round - 2 pints of Guinness and a dressed orange for me, and it came to seven Euros something, so the pints couldn't have been a fiver each.

I did Thom (see above, I've amended the post). The point is, I didn't think the prices were so bad at all. maybe it was just where we went.

Well nottins, if you're going to insist on gravitating to the tourist traps you're going to be ripped off. That's the way it is in every big European city.

Thomond, if you're not too bothered about luxury, the EasyHotels are very good. I've stayed at the one in Earls Court - it was basic (you pay extra for a room with a window, which I didn't) but it has a bed, a shower room and a TV which was all I was after.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Notch - that's true. I think I was probably lucky in having Gibbo with me, he knew the best places to go. When I go this time I'll be with locals again, so it shouldn't be a problem finding cheaper alternatives. Having said that, when I was there I did find myself a decent cheap cafe for brekkie
Rodders - I think the plan is to visit the Guinness Storehouse this time (I didn't get around to it before) so I can enjoy the view whilst the others enjoy the beverage

Brilliant. I'd planned to go there this weekend but couldn't face it after all the warm beer I'd had at Oxygen on saturday. Can't believe I've never been .

Nottins were you there for rugby too. The prices in the pubs on 6 Nations days will be more expensive around Lansdowne.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thom - PM Hughie and/or Hound of Harrow they'd definately be able to recommend a few places to you.
Rodders - you went to Oxygen? Any good? I heard The Script were good.

Morning all.
how goes it. watching golf all day would be awesome and much better than being in work today.
I will be here until 8 tonight after being in since 8 and then have a league footie match after wards to play in.
That said, I went for a swim this morning at half past 6 and I am feeling cracking and fresh since then

Only there on saturday Cari. Didn't see the script. The line up was pretty poor to be honest. That Liam Gallagher band was awful and the Artic Monkeys weren't much better. Thankfully the Foo fighters put in an immense set to make all that luke warm heineken worth while...

Kia ora, mauri ora all. How's everyone?
The drawbacks of spending 3 months "in-training", 1 and 2 last night and I'm feeling almost today
Thrilling game of softball though, the work team finished up tieing 18-18.

A pint of Guinness is €4.10 in my local. You can pay up to 6 quid in some places though. Mad money!
It’s not as bad as it used to be, going out is cheaper because there are less people going out. Rent has come down quite a bit too, I’m looking at a few places at the moment and I can afford a 2 bed townhouse, 4 or 5 years ago the same money would have got me a bedsit above a kebab shop.

Morning Each.
I see that the mountain phases of Le Tour really start today.
When the go through the cols the crowd are so dangerously close. It's a wonder that un chav doesn't push somebody off his bike.
It would have happened by now if the went through the great peaks of the Essex marshes.

Afternoon Portnoy - that actually happened in the first stage of the tour this year. A spectator got in the way and caused a mass pile up of riders. Not good. With how close you can get to the riders it is surprising it doesn't happen more often!
