Re: Worst World No 1 Ever
Lehman by virtue of the time spent there, doesn't make him the worst golfer or mean he has had the worst careerof those above, it just makes him the worst No.1 i reckon...

Re: Worst World No 1 Ever
Isn't this supposed to be a private ballot rather than outing who may of voted for who ?
I havent voted, if I did it would be for Lehman. But Id have Luke, Westy and possibly Couples fighting it out for second.

I went with Lee, my interpretation of Worst is; least accomplished. As lee and Luke are the only Non Major winning number ones, I picked Lee as I think Luke is a better player. I'm not a Lee hater, quite the contrary but based on all the options there I had to go with Lee.

No worries fella. Nice to see Nick Price on there, he had a lovely golf swing.
Personally I quitle like the fact that its remained a relatively short list as that seems to add some additional kudos to attaining the status however I think that could change over the next few years. Or maybe Rory will get there and stay there for donkeys years. Who knows.

Re: Worst World No 1 Ever
how can people say Westwood is worse than Donald?
what has Donald done in the game that Westwood hasnt at least matched!
(i voted for Lehmann.... dont care if he got a Major under his belt!)

Wow! A matchplay one-on-one series of games. How many players did he win in order to walk off with that title?

Sorry, but it's got to be either Lee or Luke - not because both their names start with 'L' that would be childish and silly..... no it's because they haven't won a Major and all the others have.

D4S
On your list it has to be Kaymer due to his record, mind you he is only 24 years old with probably another 20 years to improve his position.

OOPS
Just as well I did not vote as I wrongly assumed that Luke had won a lot more dosh than Kaymer.
So it's Luke.
Cant possibly be Lee with more career earnings than the pair of them combined.

Kaymer's record is better than Donald's, Lehman's and Westwood's, surely?Doon the Water wrote:D4S

I know, but that seems to be the criteria on which this is being assessed, so there it is.

So you did. Hence I voted for Lehman because he's got the worst swing.
But my answer is a valid one, that's one thing Donald has done that Westwood hasn't. I happen to agree that it's not a significant difference and think that Lee's 2 Orders of Merit far outweigh it.

Re: Worst World No 1 Ever
Could we maybe define the worst world number 1 as the one which did the least as an ambassador for the game. After all a sports best player can define the wider popularity and success of the game in many areas, be it commercial or as a spectacle.
Using this criteria it may well be someone like Tom Lehman who was probably never likely to be household name that could grow the game.
Edit: I appreciate there was little lehman could do in the week or two that he was No.1. So maybe it is one of the players who was there for longer but did nothing for the game?

SJ, a curve ball. I like that!
Can't argue with your Donald v Westwood logic.
Still both are better players than Lehman, major or no major!

Re: Worst World No 1 Ever
Interesting one Mac... think I'd have to go for Vijay under those criteria. 32 weeks was a long time to be number one, and even more impressive given that it was while Tiger was at his peak. And yet I doubt any non-golf fans have heard of him, and casual golf fans probably don't realise just how good he was around 2003-04. And (this might be a bit harsh) he doesn't seem to have been able to get any more tour pros coming out of Fiji either.McLaren wrote:Could we maybe define the worst world number 1 as the one which did the least as an ambassador for the game. Re: Worst World No 1 Ever
I voted for Lehman, due to his funny twitches, and his performance in the Ryder Cup (think it was Brookline), the World no 1 must not only be a great golfer but a good ambassador for the sport, and Tom Lehman failed miserable on both accounts
