On a different tack for the pure bizzare, I saw on TV in China a sport that is apparently called Judose. Here is the american website

It involves standing on one leg and holding the other with your hand so it's horizontal then trying to knock the other person either out the ring or onto the floor. Genius. Here's some youtube of it.

Uppies and Downies can get a bit tasty. It involves two teams from either end of my home town trying to get the football to two different designated areas; the downies must get the ball to the harbour and the uppies must get it to Curwen hall (a castle in the centre of town)

It starts as a massive scrum and devolves from there. It's not particuarly interesting to watch at times though, it can go on for hours.

I came back after a night out a while back and ended up watching An Ireland/Scotland Hurling/Shinty match. The Irish and Scottish teams didn't even have the same kit – hurling and shinty stuff respectively. And the commentary was in scots gaelic. That was weird.

wow it would have been weird. who won? could you even tell? shinty is usually played in front of about 5 spectators from what I can tell

My cousin lived in Florence and when we visited, they were setting it all up. He told me all about it. What i's it with these crazy local traditions. Pamplona, Siena and probably countless others.
