Mir v Carwin II
Coming off the back of two consecutive wins over Cro Cop and Nelson Mir believes he is back in title contention and deserves to face the winner of JDS and Velasquez. However he also thinks that he needs to fight one more time before challenging for the heavyweight title. Mir has stated in a recent interview that his prefered opponent would be Shane Carwin as not only would he like to avenge his loss but also Carwin is now coming off the back of two consecutive losses and therefore from his perspective is in need of a big win.

So would you like to see Mir v Carwin II? If they did have a rematch would Mir be in a better place to win? Do you think he has improved enough to compensate for Carwin's freakish power? Or will it be deja vu? Personally I'd like to see a rematch only so that Mir can give a better account of himself, but I fear if he was to lose again he can kiss his title match hopes goodbye!
“Strategically, though, I’m still one fight away if I want to be in a title fight. Obviously, dos Santos is fighting next for the title versus Velasquez and so, you know, hopefully I’ll be looking for one more fight before that. Maybe right now would be a good idea to try to fight (Shane) Carwin, you know, I’m coming off two wins in a row and he’s coming off two losses, I guess there’s a good argument for having a rematch where even though he won the first bout I’m the way up and he’s having a bit of a speed bump.”

Personally I wouldnt want to see this rematch already, it doesnt seem that long ago in MMA terms. Confidence wise it'd be a good time for Mir, now Carwin is on a slide but I'd prefer to see new match-ups. If Schaub beats Big Nog then maybe Mir v Schaub with them both on winning runs, throw Carwin an easier fight to get him going again...maybe MeatHead Mitrone he likes to stand and trade.

I think there are some intriguing questions that a rematch could possibly answer - for example Nelson seems to have an adamantium chin but how would Carwin fair against Mir's knee strikes? Carwin went the distance with JDS but it was a completely dominant performance by JDS, could Mir outwork Carwin for 3 rounds? Does he have the aggression and the strength to keep Carwin on the back foot? Will Mir try to finish the fight on the ground with a submission to try and negate Carwin's heavy hands? This seems like the best strategy to me, especially as Mir has been overwhelmed by heavy hitters before (Lesnar & Carwin) but that's easier said than done. If or when it happens I think it will be a good rematch for these reasons, both men would have something to prove, even if not to the other at least to themselves and the fans.

I'm sure a lot of fans would want to see this eventually but Brock's out at the moment and Mir is on his way up again; I think it would be the wrong time.

I would like to see Carwin get an 'easier' fight first, maybe against Kongo.
The poster who mentioned Mir fighting Schaub providing Schaub winning his next fight is a good idea and I would hope the winner would get a title shot.
Mir vs Carwin is a good fight in the future though but I wonder how the previous fight would affect Mir i.e. would he be a bit too timid in fearing Carwin's power?

Surely that's why he either has to take the fight to the ground or keep a tight clinch and hope to get a KO of his own.

True, if they fought you would think he would opt for this tactic, I think Mir is a smart fighter so would probably aim to get it to the ground ASAP and avoid trading fists.
