So what's the problem with those daffodil hats?
First topic message reminder :
I just don’t really get it. I have heard a lot of criticism that people who go out of their way to make an effort, dress up, wear silly hats and face paint are somehow contemptible and beneath those who won’t actually stick their hand in their pocket and stump up the cash for a ticket.
I’ve heard all the reasons like ‘They’re not real fans’ or ‘They price out the genuine supporters’ but I’m sorry it just doesn’t wash. To anybody who has ever played the game, surely you’d much rather run on in front of people who are clearly there for a good time, to enjoy themselves and be proud about it. I have a sneaky suspicion that those who denigrate and put these people down are just killjoys. Would you really prefer to stand in a crowd sipping port with the tweed jacket brigade that you equally condemn for the polar opposite reason?
Don’t get me wrong, the furthest I have gone is to wave full-sized Union Jacks at Lions games and I'm not really one for fancy dress or make-up (when watching a match) but I just don’t understand the scorn levelled at those who are clearly there for a good time. I understand not wanting to sit next to one of those vuvuzelas or a drunken yobbo, but surely having a few drinks and enjoying yourself is exactly what being a fan/supporter is about.

Remember when teams used to eat a piece of orange at half time? In Wales, it was daffodils.

The daffodil is the national flower of Wales, that is why it is used, as for the leaks, that is becuase years ago there were a lot of farms producing leaks and it was an easy vegitable to provide food for your family with, and going back to the turn of the 19th century when Wales had probably the most poor areas in Britian everybody and their dog were eating leeks in some shape or form.

No probs, if I know, I will tell, unless it could get me in trouble, you know what I mean, what goes on, on tour, stays on tour and all that.

Fancy dress is fine in my onion, the really annoying thing though is when people around you start spilling their drinks.
Don't get me wrong I'm all for alcohol during the games, I like a few pints myself. But there's nothing worse when your sitting in the stand during the game, look down to see a large puddle gathering at your feet, cause someone a few rows back has knocked over their pint. Given the ridiculous prices, at Murrayfield they charge £4 a pint , you'd think people would be more careful.

I've followed Wales since the mid-'50s. Oh, for the wet days at the Arms Park when we stood like sardines in our macs on the north terrace, when the wittiest shout was "Come on, the pack!" After the pubs closed at 3.00 the surge of latecomers from the back of the terrace took you off your feet. Before one game I was moved sideways from halfway to the 22 and forward to the concrete wall round the pitch. Daffodil hats wouldn't have stood a chance, but I do like them!
