that was only 1-0 but in weather saved sl from 3-0 there to be honest. this will be far far harder for sure.

Very tight if it's still going!

If the boys keep to this tempo, England may rack up a century this session

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
All these runs are valuable. What lead would Eng need to put it out of Indias sight?
anything too low and the best in the world will fancy smashing the runs off with little trouble the way it's playing at the mo.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
I would say a lead of over 400 should be the target. There is still plenty of sessions left and India's batsmen may not fail a second time.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
hmm.. four sessions at a ton a session for India easily?
450-470 seems safer.
Have to actually get the runs first but that would be ideal i'd think.

I think Dhoni made a mistake in bringing Harbhajan on before He himself, or Raina, who has some chance of picking up a wicket had a bowl.

India will have about 3 1/2 sessions so i think 400-430 is a very sporting target to set them

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
I reckon a lead of 400 will be more than enough. Batting tomorrow ought to be a lot tougher and the pitch should offer more for Swanny.
England can afford to accumulate steadily as they don't need to score that many.
Off for a while now to watch the GP. Hopefully that will ensure England get the runs they need.

I think a lead of 400 will be enough but we shouldn't take chances against the World no.1 team. A lead of 450 will be the right option.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
I've already hoisted the Cowshot flag (a bat, sinister, rampant, on a field of green) in the 450-470 camp. Not only do I think it safer against this Indian batting line up, which it would be rash to expect to to fold twice, and which could score lots of runs very fast if the track is flat; but it's also about the pressure created by an unwinnable game and the psychological marker for the series.
trebs: I rather like the "Lords' Hum". I don't think it's a lack of appreciation and support, and I don't think the England players feel it as such. Maybe I'm wrong...

How gracious from Andrew Strauss, gifting Harbhajan a wicket!. horrendous shot selection from the England captain.
And KP goes for 1!. Ishant too among the wickets.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
oh fog gods sake.. shambles england are back.,
didn't take long for the best in the world to show us up.
only india can win this now.
a lead of less than 400 was always going to have them thinking "useless england can't touch us", now we've giften them a feeble total.
kp.. great one second and a joke the next.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
I'd say the game is fairly evenly poised. England are 245-4. We can still set 400+ if we bat well, but similarly India can look to be chasing 320 if they bowl well. Anyone's game at the moment, and with that flurry of wickets indicating that there is something in the pitch if you bowl well, the draw might now be the least likely result.
Re: England vs India 1st test debate
this rather sets the scene for the rest of the series.
englands batting calm all gone and the usual headless chickens getting skittled by India.
we're mentally fragile, that's all there is to it.

yeah we could have india chasing 280 with a batting line-up that will be laughing their arses off at such a pathetic target. how shameful.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
csn you believe they would hand india victory like this.
and the pathetic england toffs do nothing to cheer there . all you can hear are british indians. and who can blame them. a world better than englands shambles.
goodbye flower if your team gets buried like this in every game.
4-0 india.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
I wonder what happened to the drop KP brigade? lLeae the 2 doubles he scored in his last 8 ttests and 2-3 50s, otherwise his average is poor, nd along with left-arm spinners and parttime leggies, now he has developed a weakness against short bowling. So drop him and bring Bopara/Taylor/Stokes/Hick/Ramprakash!!!.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
Now we're deep in the poo. Sharma has really found rhythm.
Only crumb of comfort I can see is that we have good bowlers too...
54-1 to 62-5. Blimey. Can't cricket change fast. This is like the bad old days trebs and I remember so well.
Any sedatives people have spare should be sent to trebs. I'm going to the pub this afternoon. Previous engagement. Honest.

Well from Being Englands total to set and win the game to India now being very big favourites. Just 5 overs has changed the who complection of the game.

the other bad news as well is...
that harbajhan may get some confidence, cos we arent gonna look to attack now, so he can find a rhythm, and stick to it..
