Newcastle - The Circus Continues..... Empty Newcastle - The Circus Continues.....

Post by Geordie Thu 21 Jul 2011, 12:49 pm

Well, the Circus continues.

3 players - Barton, Ranger and Cabaye refused visas to play on our US summer tour.

And now Ben Arfa is flown home for another injury - an ankle one this time.

Is anything straightforward with the toon.

HBA is not serious. It's a minor ankle knock but given all the flying they will be doing, it's easier to send him back.

Maybe next year go on a tour to Wales or something...

Is it all arrest related reasons for the visa blocking?

If you've done 'porridge' you need to have a clean record for 5 years.

Joey has 3 clean years since he did time, and Ranger did 2 months in Juvi when he was 15.

Cabaye could get a visa, but not in time.

Also what do you think about Enrique.

Is this little niggling injury he has real...or is he just hunting to leave?

I think it's a bit 50/50. The club won't risk playing him with a knock if they may have to sell him.

I swear Barton was on holiday in the USA last month?

Enrique not being the centre of any transfer goings on recenty; possibly because he's not in demand, or because clubs are waiting til last minute and he tries to force his own way out.

Plus I wouldn't really call three players not being included in our USA tour a circus- only two of them would start the season anyway. And haven't they all been sent to Holland with the reserves to make sure they get some preparation?

Most journos are saying HBA's injury shouldn't be too serious and will be ready for the start of the season.

There is a difference between a travel visa and a working visa, Churchy.

Really? Seems a bit harsh for Barton to be allowed to go on holiday and then a month later be refused to be let in; but I suppose it gives more chances for some other players to get a bit of game time in the U S of A.

Shame about Cabeye, he looked decent against Darlo. Very composed.

I can assure you we won't be paying him £70,000 a week.

Downing is the most over-rated player ever. You could've had Young for £3 million less. Probably got Johnson instead if you tried.

Good comeback.

We have a wage cap of £50,000. Plus, i have a few 'ITK's' on twitter who confirmed. He'll be on around £40,000.

Nothing to do with him being Boro. He's never fulfilled his potential. He's stats were on SSN, 40% of crosses actually hit the target man. That'll help Carroll.

Some more stats on Downing:

Aston Villa player of the year last year.
Assists: 7
Goals: 7
Passing Accuracy: 69%
Shooting Accuracy: 63%

That's pretty good to be honest.

Personally, £20 million on Henderson's the worrying purchase.

I like the direction Newcastle have gone, bought in some potentially good midfielders and a good striker in Ba. Definite mid-table bet for me.

421 - Since Aug 2004, only 4 players (Lampard, Fabregas, Gerrard & Giggs) have created more PL chances than Stewart Downing. Craftsman.

135 - Stewart Downing has completed more crosses in open play than any other player in the Premier League over the last three seasons. Whip.

40 - Since August 2004, Stewart Downing & Steven Gerrard have both assisted 40 Premier League goals. Homologous.

Liverpool have spent 84m on Carroll, Henderson, Adam & Downing.

That is the footballing equivilent of setting fire to money.

Liverpool are also 10/1 to win the Premiership. For those who dont understand betting, that means if you bet £10, you will lose £10.

40% isn't that great for a winger. You'd expect 50+. His biggest attribute was actually his tackling.

Nolan took a wage drop to £40,000 when we went down. He wanted £50,000 per week and we offered an incentive based contract, he turned it down for £55k at West Ham.

Barton had no clause and is on £65k a week, won't take the pay cut. The wage cap is for new players and existing renewals. Ba is on about £40k.

Wage cap, like CJ said, came in to place after the relegation and following promotion. Same as the under 26 policy as well.

Disagree about Downing though, he was more consistent than Young last season and it's a shame he's never been able to shine when given the chance internationally. If his delivery improves next season and he can ping a few balls in for Carroll, he's likely to make the most out of average deliveries so Downings stats could be quite pleasing.

Homologous.

Source?

And the last stat doesn't say if anyone else has done so?

Opta Sports statistics, which is used by Sky Sports and the BBC.

The last stat was just to showcase that Downing has been as productive in assisting goals as supposedly our main goal creator.

Right...

Well Drogba has 58 since 2004, and he's a striker.

Young has 53 since 2006.

40 Assists in 7 years?

just makes it seem like gerrard is either over-rated or injury prone.

David Bentley, Damien Duff and Matthew Etherington are all three average wingers that probably have close to 35 since 2004? I like Downing but 40 assist in 7 seasons isn't a fantastic record- roughly 6 a season?

Downing: 219 Games, 40 Assists
Drogba: 202 Games, 58 Assists
Young (since 2006): 177 Games, 53 Assists

Last season Young got more assists and the same amount of goals. Who was more consistent?

Why is Young coming into this? Its not like we didn't try and get him, he went to the Mancs. End of

At the end of the day, the actual cross or pass of ball could be fanastic but its only an assist when there is someone on the end finishing the chance.

He is in a better team now with players more likely to score from the chances he creates, hence more assists.

Lets judge him at the end of the season thumbsup Like Marveaux if he doesnt get injured

I brought Young into this to show how over-priced Downing was.

Young had one year left on his contract, thats why he was cheaper.

If was either sell him now or let him go for nothing!
