5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
What a load of old rubbish.KP_fan wrote:Aus has made something out of nothing.

if they fail to get close....i.e within 30 runs of winning..then they are as many believe simply lucky and going down the hill.
If they even for once think they will get bowled out in 40 odd overs......then it's already a moral defeat.
If they fail to get close in a test match because Aussie don't give them anything and have good fields it means nothing of the sort
1/10. Troll harder.

Okay! Australia declare on 111-6, leaving England to chase 227 off 44 overs.
Quite do-able you would think...unless Australia bowl and defend ultra-defensively, rather than try to take wickets.
You also have to think England will not bat too aggressively as they have nothing to gain by throwing their wickets away.

Even for you ,that is a stretch.
Why would they chase five plus per over knowing the fielding team could put everyone on the fence and bowl wide outside off stump if they seriously threatened ? What would they gain by "getting within 30 runs" ?
You can do better...

So England need to score quicker in these 44 overs than the Aussies just did in their 23 over slog.

KP_Fan writing more drivel I see.
Pretty clear how this will shape up. Both teams will start by going for the win. If England do well in the first 10-15 overs, Australia will shut up shop, and vice-versa.
Draw remains the favourite result. Wonder if super Kev will open?

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
precisely the situation Ind as No.1 team enouncteretd against WI a 40 odd over chase in the last test with series already won.
and India played out a draw
and a lot of criticism was there for lack of intent, killer instict not worthy of a top slot......and duly the crash started thereafter.
It's Really a moment of truth on how Eng see themselves as a team....dead defensive situationally lucky

England's openers have had such struggles... It's possible Aussie are favourites now!

I think we should go for it- we have a sniff. Yes they have pushed us in to it. But lets have a crack. It is only a game after all.

No KP is right,
Win or lose We should hand Aussie the ashes. They have battered this side and are THE TRUE CHAMPIONS.

Well we could try, but say we get to 60/0 after 10 overs, then Australia can just throw the ball wide of off-stump and put as many fielders on the boundary as they like. Incredibly unlikely to get a result from this game for either team.mystiroakey wrote:I think we should go for it- we have a sniff. Yes they have pushed us in to it. But lets have a crack. Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
So we did get a tea declaration...fair enough. He couldn't wait any longer without making a mockery of the whole second innings. Think they are far enough ahead to be safe , unless England get off to a racing start...
I dare say the batsmen will look to score against attacking fields , without taking silly risks ...then reassess if they manage to establish a good platform.
But I think both sides are a hour or so short of a serious chance.

Well I cant see aus getting a sniff of a win.
We have root cook and KP that can score at a rate that is good enough to win- but if they are all out within 100 we have to shut up shot with bell and trott and co

jeas we were 300/1 win this game on betfair at one point!!
I thought about it but i thought it wasn't good enough value!! we are approx 4/1 at the moment . Didn't realise aus would capitulate with this ludicrous decision. I seriously don't think they can win this- only a draw or england win is on the cards IMO.

Okay - not the best start with Root falling early.
Trott to drop anchor and give Cook license to play his shots?
200 needed with 9 wickets in hand. This could be interesting...

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
Thought they would stick with Trott at three. He can score briskly enough against new ball fields...and KP is the only one who could sore at ten an over later in the highly unlikely case that the target was still in sight over the last hour.
If England ever look remotely likely to challenge we will soon see nine on the fence etc... Not that I would complain ...frankly Australia don't deserve to lose this one. I just don't think they quite deserve to win it either.

Cook and Trott to see us through to 20 overs left at this sort of rate, then have a bosh I reckon is the plan.

Exactly that Olly. Plenty of aggressive stroke-makers in the middle and lower order to see England home. Possibly.

Nice pull by Trotty to bring up England's 50, and more good running takes it to 53.

Good positive stuff from Trott, finding the boundary on a few occasions and keeping the run rate close to the required rate.
53-1 with 32 overs remaining. Both Trott and Cook now in the 20s.

actually I see the fans of Eng on this forum were more negative about their team's chances and intent before the start of this inning....then their team turned out to be.
