Not had that much fun watching football for a while.
Robben taken the p*1ss out the spanish keeper and central defenders was literally hilarious.

Well entertaining it was. But a 3-1 goal that should have been disallowed at a crucial time turned decisive. And a penalty that wasn't there. And now I'm not even mentioning the Mexico Cameroun game. Mind you, American wrestling is entertaining as well, but that's not my point.

Fair play to Phil Nelville, clearly got hammered for being so monotone during the England game (why he got that gig I'll never know) but he was great last night, funny and self depreciating and clearly knows his stuff.
Rio is really good on there as well and Neil Lennon is fantastic. BBC have got together some good talking heads this time round.

Rio is worse than Neville. He looks as stupid as he sounds compounded when surrounded by articulate foreigners who speak better English than he does.

You see what you want Super, Rio is not remotely inarticulate, far from it.

Completely different things. I was actually really impressed with his diction last night, and it wasn't remotely forced.

COmpared to his "peers" he comes across as a thicko. Mr "state the obvious" Ferdinand.
He looks like Plug from The Bash Street Kids. Definitely a face for radio.

Fair enough, couldn't disagree more, well apart from the looks maybe. I think he's been brilliant as do most people from all the social media comments etc.

Fair play to Phil Neville, took it well.
Do prefer him to Ferdinand.
Lennon is ok, Seedorf to, Henry is not so bad either.

Oddly i think Henry is the worst of the lot. I'm sure he is intelligent but he seems to almost think too much. They go to him and the first 30 secs is silence whilst he's pondering. By then i'm bored! Which maybe says more about me than him..........

Henry is just a bit of a mumbler, nice guy but not a brilliant pundit. I prefer the English guys to him and Seedorf, I can handle one oft he foreign guys on a panel but when you get two its not great.

Having the foreign players stops the pundits from diverting back to "England" at every tenous and unrelated opportunity.

True of course, but I would guess BBC and ITV viewing figures will decrease significantly

Sure ITV would. Very much the White Van Man's coverage. Dreadful, cheap and poorly produced

I'd usually agree that BBC is better than ITV but every time i put a BBC game on so far it's been poxy Jonathan 'I Can't Understand the Goal-line Technology' Pearce commentating and i can't stand that guy!

So now we know McIlroy flies United Airlines since it is they who lost his clubs. No private jet yet then.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I'm delighted to announce that several days in I haven't watched any of it. Was almost tempted to watch the highlights of The Netherlands v Spain but that's about it. I'm sure somebody in a big betting syndicate somewhere will already know who wins in the end. :-O We are talking about a tournament run by an organisation who thought it was a good idea to award the next tournament to one of the most corrupt nations on Earth and at the same sitting award the following tournament to a little Middle Eastern dictatorship with loadsamoney (just think through that for a minute!!). EVERY real football fan should be boycotting this tournament and the next two. Just remember...had it not been for the Russian mafia and Arab money and dirty underhand deals...football would be coming home in 2018 ;-)

When I played Nairn they were appalling. About a foot of sand on them although I understand they have a reputation for being good.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Lawro was quite funny commentating on the Brazil match. Think he's at that point where he doesn't really care what he says anymore, I've heard him slag off FIFA (quite rightly) a few times now.
Savage was on with Seedorf and Henry and it was about the worst they have had, same again for me last night with Shearer and Henry and Seedorf. Id probably lose Henry from the whole thing, he doesn't bring much to the table apart from being eye candy for Mrs D and even she doesn't rate him as a pundit.
This is the worst Brazil side I've ever seen at a world cup. Not surprising when you look at who is playing really. Lots of good and decent players but lacking real star quality and not much depth to the squad. Can't see them winning it.

I always thought Hargreaves spoke well. Surprised no one signed him up. A cut above your average footballers intelligence.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Devil's advocate. Savage entertains and provokes discussion. More personality than a number of ex pros currently in punditry. His *ahem* talent as a player and experiences allows him to provide insight from a different angle to the likes of Henry who had all the skills in the world and conquered it.
Besides - it's the only way any welsh will get near the world cup.

I thought it was pretty funny when Henry was laying into Fred about cheating. Short memories some people. Remember a certain hand ball Thierry?

I don't understand why the Beeb hires has-beens who have a clear agenda when throwing licence-payers' money at "pundits".
Ferdinand and Savage just two examples.
Bring back Pat Crerand and Lawrie McMenemy is what I say, too bad Big Mal is a goner.

I dont understand why they select players with the blandest of personalities:
Shearer
Owen
Neville (Phil)
Linekar
Borefest.

I think the BBC should pull out all the stops and go with Beckham and Beardsley as the pundit dream team. What a double act they would make... articulate, wit, insight, beauty

Ah yes. Well radio requires the commentator to paint a picture with words when the viewer can't see what's happening. Can't see the average ex-Premiership footballer being up there for that really.super_realist wrote:The radio has all the better ones.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Considering the most popular radio pundits are Savage, Collymore and Darren Gough I can't really see that being the case. People aren't tuning in expecting TMS and chat about cake, they want banter. Talk Sport is doing incredibly well at a time when you'd imagine that Radio was a dying medium. All based on banter really.navyblueshorts wrote:Ah yes.
