Rangers Bid for Verhoek
Skysports.com understands Rangers have tabled an offer for Dutch winger Wesley Verhoek.
ADO Den Haag ace Verhoek has attracted the interest of a host of clubs this summer and Rangers are hoping to win the race for his signature.
Nottingham Forest expressed an interest in signing the 24-year-old, but were unable to agree a fee with Den Haag.
Gers boss Ally McCoist is thought to be an admirer of Verhoek and he has firmed up his interest with a bid for the wide-man.
Rangers are thought to have tabled a bid in the region of £1million for Verhoek as McCoist looks to add him to his squad before the close of the transfer window.

That's pushing it, i think Rangers will need closer to 3 million to get him. Having said that atleast a bid's been put down, very very good player, would be an ideal signing to give the Gers some much needed width.
Happy to see Goian sign yesterday, dont know a huge amount about him but he seems to be highly rated with a few recent injury problems. For my money, let Bougy leave for 3-4 million and designate it elsewhere, never really rated him.

Doubt Rangers would get anywhere near those figures for Boogie, £1m seems a good price though for WV, has it been accepted

I don't why Rangers are bothering, if they really want to sign him then step up to the plate and cough the money up, i'm sick of them trying to steal players at cut prices, clubs aren't willing to at the moment, even if they get a deal accepted the player might choose to play elsewhere, i'm not getting my hopes up.

VERHOEK REJECTS FOREST MOVE
ADO Den Haag winger Wesley Verhoek has turned down a move to Nottingham Forest after having a change of heart on a move away from Holland.
Verhoek travelled to England on Monday for talks with Forest after the Championship outfit agreed a fee with ADO over the weekend.
Steve McClaren has been chasing the playmaker for some time, having been made aware of his talents during his time in charge of FC Twente, but the move is now off.
Forest chief executive Mark Arthur told the club's official website: "Both ADO Den Haag and ourselves are disappointed but we have no alternative but to respect Wesley's decision.
"Wesley is very close to his family and at least has made it clear now that he's not prepared to leave them and move to England.
"We would have had an even bigger problem had the transfer been finalised and he then concluded he could not leave Holland.
"He told us that although everything about the club was in his opinion fantastic, he already felt homesick and didn't think it was fair to the club or himself to proceed with the agreement.
"It's disappointing because we had agreed a deal with all parties concerned - the player, his agent and ADO Den Haag - in Amsterdam last Friday.
"I feel great sympathy for ADO Den Haag, who were expecting to receive a substantial transfer fee for the player and had also, we understand, already made a move in the transfer market to replace him."
A statement released on ADO's official website read: "After one day in England, Wesley Verhoek has decided that Nottingham Forest was not the adventure he thought it would be.
"He has given up on a foreign move and is hoping to stay in Holland, preferably with ADO Den Haag.
"After spending the last seven years with the club, his ties to the club are stronger than he first thought.
"The club is set to hold further discussions with him about his current situation and the future."
Rangers had also been interested in Verhoek before Forest jumped ahead of them in the queue.

Re: Rangers Bid for Verhoek
It's very nice to see the OF not getting things their own way for a change, now that both teams are only ever going to make occasional and most likely very very brief forrays into the CL they simply aren't a big enough pull for even the average (or below) average player like Verhoek.
Even although he's no longer going to Forest either , it's funny that a provincial side can jump ahead of the "so-called big team" like Rangers in the pecking order. Hilarious.

So how do you go about claiming Verhoek is 'average' then?

Re: Rangers Bid for Verhoek
If he was anything more than average then he would be courted by bigger teams than Rangers and Forest, but he's not so he isn't.
Be honest, with the exception of a tiny number of players, all players in Scotland nowadays are completely average and many are worse, why would anyone who was better than average (as you insinuate Verhoek is) want to play in Scotland (and if anyone says "to win things" then you don't get it).

Most players in Scotland are average? So that is why a whole heap of them have left for Championship or in some cases Premier League football this summer?

Re: Rangers Bid for Verhoek
Steve, read again. I said there were a tiny number of players who were better than average and it is those from that bracket who have moved on to better things. There's precious little real talent left in the league, which is a double edge sword because no one wants to buy what's left and no one wants to move to the league because of the quality.

Re: Rangers Bid for Verhoek
What do you consider a tiny number?
Half of Dundee United's squad left for things further South as have several other established SPL players such Chris MacGuire from Aberdeen.
We also have many players coming north from Championship to play in Scotland. You really just have to see the negative in everything.

Re: Rangers Bid for Verhoek
The question you have to ask is, if there are as many good players as you seem to think, why are they continuing to play in the SPL?
If I was a professional footballer, there is no way I would stay in the SPL if I could play for the likes of Forest, Ipswich, Derby, Cardiff etc. You play in good stadiums every week with big crowds, the league is competitive, you play at a higher level and you get more credibility to further your career.
Winning a tin pot trophy in a two horse race is testament to a lack of ambition.

He also knocked back Fulham from the so called best league in the World, Forest weren't the pull, it was Steve McLaren that was the pull
