A memorial fund has been set up for former Lincoln City and Macclesfield Town midfielder Richard Butcher, who died in January aged 29.

The fund will give to various causes chosen by Butcher and his family.

It also hopes to create permanent memorials to Butcher and former Lincoln and Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander at Sincil Bank and Moss Rose.

Butcher's former Lincoln team-mate Alan Marriott told BBC Lincolnshire: "We feel that would be a fitting tribute."

Butcher had begun training as a physiotherapist, and Marriott added: "Richard's widow Sarah has spoken about getting some physio equipment in his name because Richard felt strongly about people having access to physiotherapy.

"Another suggestion was to sponsor a different local children's football team each year. Everyone has their own causes and if we can raise as much as we can hopefully we can help all of them."
