I think Jo Wilfred-Tsonga will get far in this tournament possibly the Semis or even Final, his games improving all the time. I think he could well be a dark horse in this competition

Let's review the previous Poll Who will win Wimbledon 2011

Andy Murray 21% [ 14 ].
Roger Federer 30% [ 20 ].
Novak Djokovic 10% [ 7 ].
Rafael Nadal 28% [ 19 ].
Robin Soderling 0% [ 0 ].
Milos Raonic 4% [ 3 ].
Other (please specify) 4% [ 3 ].

So the top four player with the lowest votes won (I voted for him ahem).

I have a sneaky suspicion that Del Potro or Nadal might just win the US Open 2011. Murray needs to get himself a proper coach. Hopefully he will do better than the third round this year.

socal - predicting that the runner up at the other hard court slam will win this hard court slam is crazy? Hmm.

I think he has a good chance. If someone had said 1 year ago that 2011 would be the year Djokovic destroyed almost everyone he met and would be the new world number 1, a lot of people would have said that person was crazy.

Hardly the prediction of the year, but I'm pretty certain it'll be one of the top 4 or Del Potro.

I maybe a little partisan but I see very much Fed as a favourite to win this USO, closely followed by Djokovic and JMDP, with Nadal and Murray some distance behind. Said that, it's very early to make such a game with Cincinnati and Montreal still to play.

No Danny I don't have a problem with people picking murray, I just find it interesting that he tops the list in this poll although I don't think he would top this list if he wasn't a british player and this mainly a british site. Just making an observation, it isn't an odd pick to pick murray but just interesting that so many people feel he is the favorite on this site.

Problem is, I do follow Tennis which is why I think it so strange. Djokovic has lost ONE match all season, Murray is a serial under-achiever at the US Open. If anyone wants to bet on Murray whilst giving me Djokovic I would be very interested.

Your point?

Seeing as Murray has reached all the slam semis (or better) so far this season that form makes him one of the favourites - it may break your heart that but it is a fact.

A serial under-achiever at the US Open yet has been runner-up there. Are you sure you follow tennis?

One of the favourites? Yes of course he should be, he's one of the best players in the world.
Favourite above Djokovic? No way, that's mental.

I would say losing to Cilic and Wawrinka is him under-acheiving.

Sorry but being runner-up to Federer in the US Open is not under-achieving. He has already achieved lots at Flushing Meadows and well nigh certain one of those defeats you cling to was when he developed his wrist injury.

By your own admission he's one of the best players in the world hence why so many people are tipping him to win the US Open - nothing wrong with that is there?

In the last two years he has under-achieved at the US Open, I say this because he has lost to players that he would be expected to have beaten. Sure he did well in 2008 and no disgrace at all in losing to Federer in the final.

A debate about him or any other player being injured is pointless, none of us will ever know to what extent an injury has troubled a player. I am sure any injury hurts more when they are losing though...

So Murray cannot use an injury as an excuse but other top players can ie Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, del Potro etc. (By the way he missed six weeks of the season after that wrist injury so clearly it affected him enough to lose a match which he did in straight sets)

As for poll by your own admission Murray is one of the best players in the world so is it really a massively surprising result (poll isn't closed yet either). I'd understand you being mystified if Andy Murray was ranked outside the top ten and never reached slam finals before but that isn't the case.

No, I've not stated that anyone has ever lost due to being injured or otherwise. It does play a part, but it's amazing how often ALL players seem to develop an injury in a match they are losing.

I am massively shocked he is considered a bigger favourite than Djokovic, who, in my opinion, should be the clear favourite. This is also reflected by the bookies so it appears I am not alone is this.

I have to agree with Guest, not that murray shouldn't be considered I don't think that is what he is saying. I think it is just matter of how he ended up topping Nadal, Federer, and Djoko as the most favored in the poll. The result is a bit skewed, but it should be taken with the knowledge that it has more to do with the location of murray's fansite than with Murray actually being the big favorite to win.

Nobody is saying they think Murray is perceived as the clear favourite... They are just stating who they personally think will win title. Yes, some of those opinions may be linked to the fact he is a Brit, like a lot of people on here.

If the poll was "who is the favourite?" rather than "who do you think will win?" then it would be quite a boring poll, as it would be 100% Djokovic.

Hmmmm ok so if the people with a problem with Murray's recent performances at the US think it should discredit him from being a favourite, then by that logic Federer should be favourite having won it 5 times????

Get a grip people. If people want to vote Murray as their favourite to win, they can, same with Djokovic fans.

So by this logic I make Federer favourite.

Now I am waiting for the 'I mean Djokovic this season' bandwagon chant laughing

clap I think picking Fed to win this USO is a fair choice: Djokovic is unlikely to continue at his outstanding level without a minimal drop in form, and even during this year he never showed a clear upper hand on Fed. Nadal is not playing at the same level of last year and never got on well with the amercan fast court. Murray and Del Potro are two outsiders, I actually think should Delpo land in a SF he would fancy is chances,

I agree JK, I been saying that Fed looks good for the USO too, his record is better @ the USO than at Wimbledon in many respects, especially in the last few years. As you say, the matches between him & Djokovic do feel and are closer than the Nadal/Djokovic matches and this is born out by the fact Fed is the only guy who has beaten Djokovic this year.

What I will be intrigued by is which side of the draw Federer is put on, will it be on Nadal or Djokovic's? Regardless, if Federer should meet Djokovic, I think it will be a tight match but interestingly, even when Djokovic beat Federer, it went all the way to 5 sets and Fed also had match points, he let it slip away more than anything else. When Federer has won in the USO matches against Djokovic, it's been wins in 3 or 4 sets, tight sets, but a lot easier than winning in 5. For these reasons, even though Djokovic is a different player, I can see him losing to Federer @ the USO (can't see him losing to anyone else @ the mo & Fed is the only one so far who has beaten him), Fed's just got to make sure he gets to the point of meeting him and given his USO record, I think he will, the two have met in the last 4 USO seasons, probably a good chance and definitely will be the best match of the finals @ the USO, like last year.

I don't know lucius I could see Djoko losing to Fed or Murray at the USO but not Nadal. Fed does have a good chance at this tournament, but I think Andy on his day on hardcourt could knock Novak out as well. Interestingly, I don't have the same fear of Novak playing Nadal at the USO. I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from 2010 USO semi or 2011 RG semi. Its more of an issue of Roger's variety and his serve giving him more options to combat Novak and get him out of the comfort zone without having to out hit him from the baseline constantly.

I'm drawing on Fed's overall record against Djokovic @ the USO rather than just those two matches. I agree, I don't think a Djokovic/Nadal line up would be anything other than a Djokovic walk over! Shocking to say, but given what we seen this year, the most likely outcome between these two should they meet. I'll be interested to see where Murray goes....the question is, can he keep it together over the course of a match, he's got the talent to beat those ranked above him....as his first set against Nadal @ Wimbledon shows but can he sustain it? That's where my question marks remain. This week's tournament is the perfect test for him in many ways! I reckon he'll lose it but we'll see...

It's a funny one with Murray, a couple of years ago he seemed to beat Federer, Nadal and Djokovic most of the time he met them in (certainly in masters) but got knocked out of slams before meeting them most of the time, against players you would really expect him - at his best - to beat (Roddick, Cilic, Wawrinka, Verdasco)...

Now, he seems to have mastered beating players to get him to the latter stages, but is not beating the top guys without anything like the same regularity. He's lost to Djoko twice in a row, and Nadal 4 times in a row.

So we know he can beat the top players, he's done it many times... We know he can make his way through to the latter stages of slams, he's done it many times.... He just needs to put it together.

It's not a question of ability, it's a question of belief...

New York is my favourite slam, and I think it'll be the best one of the year as Murray and Del Potro really can match the top 3 on a hard court, unlike the other surfaces.

Couldn't have put it better Danny.

USO is probably his best chance for his first slam, however he will have to get past some of the top three to achieve it, and avoid any " banana skins" en route, as for belief he now has Cahill & Co their to help him!

Good analysis Danny, I definetly concur. I think Murray just needs to put it together and have the belief against the top guys. Because in every grandslam there is going to be a point when you are playing a tough opponent and your back is against the wall, and Andy has to find away to believe he will be the guy that wins it. I like his chances at New york, but I would still rank him behind Djoko and Fed in terms of favorites. Probably, would rank him tied for #3 in terms of being a favorite. Although again I would draw too many conclusions from his victories against Novak 18 months ago. Andy and Novak is an interesting rivalry in that initially Novak completely dominated their first 4 meetings. Then Novak had the lengthy problems with his serve and during that period of time, Andy wins 3 straight against a basically serveless Djokovic. And now that Novak has his serve and fitness in line he has beaten Andy twice in a row. That being said I wouldn't be stunned if Andy won in NY and beat Djoko in the process as Rome was a match that could have gone either way this year between the two.

Djoko has to be favourite, then Fed, then Nadal then Murray. Del Potty needs to get his ranking higher to avoid getting 3rd and 4th round defeats against the big boys. Once he does then he'll be back in grand slam contention again as I don't think, yet, he's playing well enough to knock out a top four player.

I read that Murray has completely changed his diet since the grass season. It will be interesting to see later on what other changes he has implemented. He has had 5 or so weeks with his new coaching set up, so I wonder what areas of his game he's been working on, and if there will be any technical changes, possibly his serve in an effort to get a higher first serve percentage.

Murray just lost 6-3 6-1 to World No 35 Kevin Anderson at the Canadian Masters. It was quite a poor defence from the defending champion - losing in his first match.

""I just felt very slow, the game seemed to be going so fast," Murray said.
Murray, ranked number four in the world, served five double faults and looked sluggish in comparison to Anderson, who never allowed Murray to settle.
"I've trained really hard to get ready for the tournament. I've always played very well here," said Murray, who has won the last two Canadian Masters titles. "I couldn't get anything going. I started both sets really, really badly which doesn't help against someone that serves like Kevin."
