Laidlaw to captain Edinburgh for 2011/12
Just spotted this while I was trying to get away from all the rioting news.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/club/8691264/Greig-Laidlaw-named-Edinburgh-captain.html
Surprising choice, but further evidence of his rising stock in Scots rugby.
I'm certainly not against the guy captaining the team as I rate him, but is he guarenteed a place week in/ week out?
Roddy Grant wasnt and the decision to make him captain was met by some criticism. What does this mean for Blair?
Does it indicate Greg might not make Robbo's final cut?
Alistair Read reports that Roddy will captain the Gunners if Greg makes the RWC plane.

Re: Laidlaw to captain Edinburgh for 2011/12
Hopefully we don't have a repeat of last year of having to Play Roddy grant in any position, purely because he is captain!
I think it is a good choice, with not many other names screaming out for the job. Plus Laidlaw and Roddy are probably going to be about for Edinburgh most of the season (perhaps the rwc aside).
By the way - how come you have to click on the "club rugby" section to see this and it doesn't appear in the main thread?

Greig Laidlaw given Edinburgh Rugby captaincy
Looks like laidlaw is being given the Captaincy of Edinburgh. How does this sit with fans, a good choice or added pressure.

Risky, I think that with a new coach, you can't read too much into this.
Bradley will have his own opinion as to whether captains should be forwards or backs for a start and will have watched the players train and formed his own view.
I see that Roddy is still vice-captain, which hopefully he should take as something retained, rather than the captaincy lost.

I was a bit surprised to read this in the Metro this morning. Unlike Roddy Grant, I do think he will be in the team on merit either as SH as Mike Blair is so far off the boil it is scary or as SO because of doubts about Phil Good's ability to run a game.
I wonder if Blair's ongoing injuries are more serious than is being let on......
