2/1 Tiger Woods!
A few years back those were the kind of odds you could expect for Tiger to win a Major. Now he is a 25/1 shot for the PGA which is probably still too short.
However there could still be some value in backing Tiger - 2/1 to miss the cut.
Is that a good bet?

Is it good value in context to his recent major history? No would have to be the answer as apart from one missed cut at the Open last year he has still performed well at the majors. Not sure what the odds are for him to finish top 10 but that would be my guess for his week.

Re: 2/1 Tiger Woods!
He might not be playing well at the moment, and who knows when he will get his form back.
But every single player in the PGA field will know that if he does find it again, they're playing for second place.

I don't know about that anymore George!!
But there is no doubt that he is capable of winning if he finds a few fairways

Even if Woods does get his form back he has lost his aura of invincibility. Once that has gone and the others know they can beat him then they are certainly not playing for second place.

I honestly feel Woods had lost that before his subsequent demise after the 9 iron beating Elin gave him. I think the World of Golf has Y E Yang to thank for that, the fact he beat Tiger head to head down the last to win the PGA showed the world if you had the bottle to stand with Tiger and take him on he could be beaten instead of letting him intimidate you into submission. So to YE Yang

25/1 as an each way bet is surely a massive price? He may not have been winning recently but just before his last injury was good at coming through the pack on the last day when he knew he could not win and had no pressure. We all know what happens when you prod a sleeping bear...

25/1 each way is probably 5/1 at most bookies (fifth odds?)
5/1 on Tiger making the top 4? I'm not sure that's great value

Re: 2/1 Tiger Woods!
I think the 2/1 odd for missing the cut tell you alot about his chances.
If I was going to have a bet on him, it would be to miss the cut - along with Poulter

George, I'm sorry, but that's claptrap. There are too many players playing at a high level now and who no longer fear him. Woods hasn't won a major since 2008 and no tournaments since 2009. He'd have to improve impossibly if his peers were to consider second place an achievement when he's in the field. That's right he now has peers.
Woods would give his stupid goatee beard for a second place right now. All these ifs and buts mean nothing.

It is usually a quarter odds and usually down to fifth and ties. Paddy Power were offering e/w down to eighth at The Open!
Of course, you also have the way that people still love Tiger so if he has a good Thursday/Friday there will be the chance of laying it back out to those betting with their hearts and not heads that will drive the odds down.

Most bookies are offering top 6 (at least) for e/w bets. Still not great value for Tiger though

Paddy Power were only offering to 8th pre the start and then it was back to 4th! They're not stupid

Spot on Mav. Indeed, as a result of yon finish, one could say that Tiger's yin has lost its yang!
As for his chances, it won't come as a shock if he fails to make the cut. He has a lot of extra baggage to carry these days not least of which is a new caddie.

Completely agree with you but I would also not be shocked if he had a good week. To quote another thread, if Tiger gets himself into position then would anyone want to bet against him? I think that 25/1 is about right given that people still have the perception that Tiger is a great player - the top is now so competitive that picking a winner is ridiculously difficult but if you were picking someone to win given a good opportunity then Tiger will still be up there. It's a big ask for a good opportunity at the moment for him though!?!

Sharrison ... absolutely! Don't forget, it's not the first time he's been been beaten 'in the clinch' (albeit match play).

Would Poulter winning make you any happier than you are right now?

Only if Woods misses the cut. Currently tied 140th
Cue excuse that he came back "too early".

He's had plenty of good times Harrison. A little suffering is good for the soul.
