Old Versions of Championship Manager...
Little bit off topic though I am sure that many of you guys are or did while away your teenage years playing CM or FM... now if you are about my age you will probably think back to the glory days of CM 01/02 and CM4 with the crabby graphics and gloriousness of Anastasios Skalidis, Freddy Adu et al.
I have been trying to locate copies of this games for my Mac but have had real trouble. I have tried searching the net to download, tried the Champ Man website and tried both Amazon and Play.com as well.
I didn't know if anyone can tell me where I could come across either or both of these for the mac as they are real classics and I would like to be able to play them again. Alternatively, am I wasting my time? Were they only ever made for the PC? I really hope that Eidos start to remake these older versions as I always remember them being better, whether that is age, cynicism of the wistful passing of time I am not sure.
Any help much appreciated.

Hey Josh,
Your best bet is finding a site like "Abandonia" (there's quite a few out there) etc which specialize in older games, though that site is for stuff normal older than CM4.
Here is a site I found with a quick search for CM4 downloads.
http://www.mofunzone.com/download_games/championship_manager_4_mac.shtml
For your own reference all CM games from 2001/2002 (including) season onwards were MAC compatible, anything prior to that was not.
As to these games getting re-released on a classic/budget label as part of Eidos trying to make money on their older titles I wouldn't be to sure. The two games you are looking for are the last two before the split between Sports Interactive and Eidos and currently I'm unsure who gets what from any re-releases or if either company is still on speaking terms in that regards.
I mean Eidos got to keep the name but in the end thats nothing when you consider that the genius that has been CM and went on to become FM was always Sports Interactive. Eidos were just along for the ride till the split and Sega get to milk the cash cow now.
Hope this helps but any questions just ask.

If all games from 2001/2002 onwards were mac compatible then eBay will more than likely have a few copies for sale.

If your looking to play older games like CM4 on Windows 7/Vista (same operating system just different name) then your best bet is using DOSBOX.
http://www.dosbox.com/
There is tutorials on the site that help you on how to get the games to work, first time it probably will take about 15mins to walk through it and find your way to launching a game. After that though things pick up speed as you get used to the tool and I've now got it down to less than a minute to have the game launched.
Don't be put off if it looks to much work at first it is quite easy when following the tutorials.

Sold Out are a company I come across alot for these games. I bought CM03/04 from them a little while back.
Off topic slightly, 03/04 remains my favorite version, followed by 01/02!

I'd tried to use that with Championship Manager 97/98, give up after about 5 minutes
may try again tonight so I can sign Bakayoko, Wright and Pires when they were amongst the best players on the game

Re: Old Versions of Championship Manager...
I agree its a little fiddly at first just to play a game but once you get it sorted it gets quite easy from there. Sadly its the only real way to play a lot of the older games these days as the newer O/S don't seem to be compatible.
My advice with a game like CM with such a long name is just to rename the folder to something short, in then end the folder your launching can be called anything as long as you know whats inside it. It made it easier for me when trying to launch from the DOSBOX when it was asking you to write the folder names in.

I've never ran windows vista but on windows 7 all you have to do to run CM 99-00 is to run it as administrator and it works fine.

Re: Old Versions of Championship Manager...
I played Cm93/94 for hours on the Amiga!
Ryan Giggs was a kid then!
I used to go Manchester United and buy all the Wales players, though your best players would always go to Italy when their contracts expired and you couldn't stop it.
I think 03/04 is the best version they ever made myself, I used to try and get the entire Romania 1994 World Cup team together for some reason.
I bought the 2010 version but it was awful, so I switched to Football Manager.

That would be because CM 03/04 was the last version Sports Interactive (game developer) did before splitting with Eidos, only reason its now called Football Manager is Eidos got to kept the name Championship Manager in the separation agreement. Since its creation in 2005 Football Manager has always been the Championship Manger series in all but name.

The first championship Manager in 1993 on the Amiga and Pc was made by Domark from what I remember, it featured a guy who looked similar to Alex Fergusson on the cover.

It was published by Domark but the game was made by Sports Interactive, the first two games in the series would be published by Domark but they had nothing to do with the making of the games. Domark would then become part of Eidos a few years later hence why until the split in 2004 Eidos would publish all the Championship Manger games done under Sports Interactive.

Re: Old Versions of Championship Manager...
Ah ok thanks Dass I wasn't aware of the merger.
I prefered the older versions of the game 03/04 as the new 2010-2011 versions have too many stats and are simply too complicated, it's too in depth and the agents and players cheese me off.
I'm an old gamer brought up in a different era!

Re: Old Versions of Championship Manager...
I'll always have a soft spot for the late 90's and early 2000 CM games as I'd often spend hours with my mates playing them or have sleep overs and be up all night each with a different team. The big advantage of those earlier games being you could complete seasons so much quicker it was a easier game to just pick up and play for fun.
I do like the newer games and think in many ways they are better but they require more time to play and aren't as easy to pick up and just play with friends.

Yes Dass I remember the good old days also!
Go to Wycome, and buy Jason Cousins the 16 year old right back.
Goto Luton and buy Ceri Hughes,
See if Nai Lampety could get a work permit.
Good times!
