No Football in August
For all of us looking beyond September [yes thats you Cork supporters to] not a mention of the proposed changes to next years NFL. Here I was expecting home games against Cork, Kerry, Dublin and Mayo and the proposal is not only to scrap this but introduce a 16 team 1st division split into two groups. Two semis for the 1st division title and only the bottom team from each group relegated.
What is the point.
What is the point.

Huh? Are they trying to avoid a bottleneck of fixtures next summer?

Re: No Football in August
Its more likely to be an income generator from two additional semi final fixtures. It makes a complete farce of this years league. Galway and Monaghan were both relegated but would remain with a chance of winning the Div 1 title next year.
I'm sure Antrim and Sligo would be truly sick as they wouldnt get the same treatment from Div 2

Re: No Football in August
I like the new format better, a play off against 1A and 1B, makes more sense than a playoff between first and second.
also they will only be two playoff instead of 4 which makes better sense.
I remember in div 4 and 3 Antrim finished ahead in the league of Sligo both times, both got promoted but they had a stupid playoff each year and Sligo got the trophy, at least mow if one wins 2A and the other 2B, both will be promoted, but the playoff will be at least for something (div 2 overall winner).
I believe Antrim are going to yo-yo a bit between the 2 div

I don't understand this thread. We don't care about the league in Feb-Apr. Why should we worried about it in August.

They can do what they like with the league but it will alway's be nothing more than an opportunity to blood a few new player's for the champ, for the majority of teams.

It appears that there are a lot of summer supporters on here.
You do realise its a ten month season and some of the best games are not played in August and September in Croke Park.
Quite a few of my favourite games in the last few seasons have been league games in March and April and club championship games in October.

I really enjoyed the Allianz this year - from what I saw of it...it doesn't get as much coverage as the AI over here.

The league is the starter before the main course,I like watching the games and the highlights but if I missed it I wouldn't be too upset. If I missed any game in May/June/July/August/September I would be pretty angry.

Re: No Football in August
Setanta showed some live games last year but their coverage wasnt great. TG4 showed club games live but not being a techy I have no idea if its possible to pick them up outside the island of Ireland.
In terms of commentary Marty Morrisey is getting worse as the season goes on. I am even considering watching the Dubs v Donegal game on BBC Norn Ireland. The only advantage RTE have will be if Brolly is on the panel and he sticks it to the dubs for a row. His last column was already pointing in that direction.

Brolly is really annoying although his point that Cork had no shooters in the midfield/half back line were kinda true.

Everyone and anyone has been linked to the presidency so it's not too surprising.

Maybe another nordie is what is required. Given the level of the candidates so far perhaps Frank Carson. Its a cracker

Delighted the format hasnt changed. We have Kerry, Cork, Dublin and Mayo at home enough reason for a season ticket on its own.
