Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
I for one will not buy the floyd vs ortiz fight in protest to primetime making me pay for this. I might be alone here but i am truely pee'd of at this. can someone remind me of the last time a fight was aired on our tv channels on ppv when no fighter from U.K. was involved?
now my way of thinking is if you are a floyd fan (which i am) and are not happy about his next fight being ppv and want it to stop, is to not buy the fight in the hope he is getting paid purley on ppv's. With extremely low U.K. buys i assume camp floyd will not be too pleased and will live to regret the desicion and the risk of it being shown on a new network over here.
Slightly off topic. Does anyone know the difference in the way promoting companies and fighters are paid when a fight is being shown on sky sports and PPV? i.e. Do sky sports pay the same to air the fight regardless if 1 person tunes in or 1 million people tune in?

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
I'm not sure Floyd will be overly bothered by the UK sales, surely those in the US are far more lucrative?
Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
hmm, thats a point. Didnt think of that.
but surley the views will drop massively compared to it being on sky sports which should sway the promoters next decision.... no?

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
You have to remember it is Floyd Mayweather we are talking about here, as much as we are all happy to say we shan't be paying for it now, you can guarantee that a good percentage will change their mind and regrettably do so as fight night nears.
Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
Not really. No one watches morning fights without a big UK star. Only 100k max ever watch Saturday fight night at primetime with domestic fights.dangerous_mouse wrote:hmm, thats a point. Didnt think of that.

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
lol, like i did on khan vs judah.
Well i hope everyone can hold out till the next day when its on the tube, or a cheeky live stream. I am soooo angry i will not be buying this. I even booked the sunday off from work the day after but i think i'll just opt back in so i cant do a last min buy even if i wanted.

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
Yeah mate.
I'll post numbers for the international fights when I'm on my pc. The only one I can think of off the top of my head was on setanta, Cotto vs Marg got 40k.

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
Setanta wasn't PPV, it was subscription, but that was a tiny percentage of subscribers.

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
oh yeah i remember now.
Was wondering tho, how many SS subscribers who may not be big boxing fans will still try and tune in as its a floyd mayweather fight. No chance of that happening now still cant see anyone getting more views in U.K. than SS.
Surley after the flop numbers on primetime for this fight promoters will be mad to let it go to any other network but sky sports.

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
Seems 14k not 40...Don't have many big international fights actually, but should be interesting nonetheless. At least shows Bradley Alexander was below 117k. Not sure why it’s only picking up the replays of Pacquiao-Margarito and Mosley-Mayweather tbh, will see if I can find initials as that might be more illustrative.

Can only find that Mayweather vs Mosley did less than 192k, Pacquiao vs Mosley less than 92k, Pacquiao vs Marg less than 147k.

I will 100% be buying it. Mayweather albeit at times boring is the best 'boxer' going and be interesting to see if age is finally catching up with him, in addition to ring rust and Ortiz who is quick, young, hungry and has found a new level of confidence.
I still think it'll be a wide UD for Mayweather but still interested.

I won't buy it but obviously if there is half a chance I will be able to win a T shirt or something I will of course pay up in a heartbeat.

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
Being serious I will buy it, will admit the creeping prevalence of PPV sticks in my craw a bit and particularly as the coverage on Primetime is a still a little amateurish, with no HD channel etc, although it is improving, but I don't really agree with watching streams unless a fight is not being shown over here at all and as I spend half my spare time on here discussing the sport it is just easier for me if I have actually seen them live.

Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
I'll be buying it, begrudgingly, as I was rather hoping it'd be on skysports.
Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
Sky pay the same regardless of viewing figures, yes. £100k for SFN I believe, obviously depends on the fight for others.dangerous_mouse wrote:Slightly off topic. Does anyone know the difference in the way promoting companies and fighters are paid when a fight is being shown on sky sports and PPV? i.e. Do sky sports pay the same to air the fight regardless if 1 person tunes in or 1 million people tune in?
For PPV they have their take, somewhere around the 50% mark, and the rest is split between boxers/promoters etc based on negotiations.
Not sure if I'll buy yet, but it's likely I'll try and get a few people to watch it, and in that case I would.

I won't be buying it. I will, instead, be living it up in New York which just happens to be a flipping fantastic city.
I will be there under the pretense of doing some "work" but will be off to find some sort of sports bar to watch it unfold live.
To paraphrase Alan, lovely stuff.

Colour me envious, also.
My wife and I were married in New York. I had wanted to see the big apple ever since I was a small boy and I wasn't disappointed. Incredible experience, and I'd go again tomorrow if I could.

Myp2p have won legal rulings in the past.
Let me clarify the situation on myp2p.
The site itself is legal, however......
The stuff they stream is not always legal. The loophole they have used to not get shut down is that they are not responsible for the content that people post on there - this is the ruling that they won.
So to clarify, the myp2p site is legal however, many of the streams that are shown on there are illegal.
Re: Will you buy floyd vs ortiz?
Was about to say the same thing Hobo, myp2p is just a site full of links, they don't actually show any streams themselves.

I've always wondered about it actually, and without outrightly admitting I use it (big brother's watching and all that) I have 'come across' it many times.
I'd imagine all of the streams are illegal unless from the owner of the broadcast in the country you are from?
I always thought, too, that the only ones that are punished are those who post the links as opposed to those who watch the streams...?

Website owners are the ones who will get in trouble, not the viewers. ISPs can block certain websites based on TV companies requests.
No blocking = i'm there, especially at 4am when there isn't much clamour for us to organise a big boys night in.

The reason why the comments about myp2p havent been deleted yet is due to the fact it has served a purpose to show that the streams are illegal.
However, we cannot condone any illegal activity or association of illegal activity.
You are not allowed to post on the boards any links to sites that engage in illegal streaming - this includes myp2p. This is a standard rule that is in place for all of the sections on these boards and has been enforced.
The simple ruling is that if you watch the stream, you ARE breaking the law, just the same as if you are receiving stolen goods.

I'm very fortunate Jeff/Windy. In my line of work I make it to the Big Apple at least once a year, sometimes more. I am desperate to get over there when a big fight is on at the Garden but so far haven't had such luck.
Great place and the locals sure know their boxing. Had trouble persuading some of them that Lennox Lewis was British last time I was over there, but we all know about that can of worms.
What a place to get married Windy. Nice one, Sir!

I certainly don't have an excuse to forget the anniversary, Tino !
I know it sounds daft, ( there's a boy in all of us, I guess, ) but I found myself sitting on the steps outside Madison Square Gardens for ten minutes or so, just watching the world go by and meditating on the fact that Ali and Frazier had slugged it out in the fight of the century in that very building. It was eerie.
Would love to have been the proverbial fly on the wall when you were having the Lewis discussion.

This is their legal statement, this abstains then from any punitive action so posting a link to the website itself isn't illegal - if it were illegal why would it still be running? I'd be surprised if you've covered such wonders as the data protection act and all the various other wonders of online legal issues, that's not posturing it's just that i have to deal with such issues 24/7. Why do we allow linking to images which if you're going to be "strict" is actually illegal as well.
http://www.myp2p.eu/noticetakedown.php
The above basically says that the host of the stream is liable and that they've posted the stream in good faith it is legal - this also covers users of the website as they act under the intentions that these streams are legal and legit. If the stream is found to be illegal myp2p pull the stream and the owners of the website get in trouble. Using the website has ZERO legal implications for users, the legal issue is 100% liable by the guys who post the stream.

I did a similar thing myself Windy. Just going to the Garden is special, but to see a big fight there is something I need to cross of the list.
The guys I was speaking too were Brooklynites and although they acknowledged Lewis's talent, they point blank refused to consider him as British. Could have been talking to TRUSS for all I know!
