Mauro Zarate heading to the emirates?
Reports in the Italian media suggest that Lazio striker, Mauro Zarate, is in talks with English side, Arsenal, over a possible move to the club.
Zarate has been told by the bosses at Lazio to find a new club for himself, as he is not in their plans for the upcoming season. The Argentinean is linked with a move to host of clubs including Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur but latest reports suggest that Arsene Wenger wants to sign him.
The Gunners are in the market for a new striker, as Wenger is preparing to sell Nicklas Bendtner this summer. The Biancazzurri have valued the striker at €18m and might agree for a price somewhere close to this figure. On the other hand, Arsenal will reportedly test their resolve by tabling an offer in the region of €12m.
The London based club are definitely in the market to sign a few quality players, as their influential skipper, Cesc Fabregas, has left the club to join Barcelona. While Frenchman, Samir Nasri, is on the verge of quitting the Emirates to join Manchester City.
Zarate has already spent some time in the English Premier League during his short stint with Birmingham City. The 24-year-old joined Birmingham on-loan from Qatari side, Al-Sadd, in 2008 and had a very impressive six month spell at the club. He managed to score 4 goals in 14 appearances for the club.
The former Velez Sarfield star was really impressive in his first two seasons at the Stadio Olimpico Rome but had a less than convincing 2010/11 campaign. The striker failed to make his mark at the club and managed to score only 9 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions last season.
Lazio have signed two strikers in the form of Miroslav Klose and Djibril Cisse during the summer transfer window and are looking to improve their problematic striking department. The Rome based club were really disappointing in front of the goal and it cost them a UEFA Champions League place for the upcoming season.

I can't see Zarate happening to be honest.
Doesn't seem like the type of player Wenger would be interested in.

Can't say I know much about him to be honest but I do feel we need some striking options.
